So anyone excited for the NX Nintendo Switch Direct presentation?

I have mixed feelings myself, I don't think the console will be a good handheld (too bulky, poor battery life) or a good home console (too underpowered in 2017 for decent ports IMO, will limit what Nintendo can do with their own games). I also feel that most of the games Nintendo releases will be just cannibalized from the Wii U. 3 of the 5 games announced are just that.

But in the end, it's Nintendo, so it's bound to have more than a few good new games and I'll probably end up buying it at some point anyway.

I think Switch is a perfect console for me. I won't think it's too bulky, battery life is still yet to be confirmed (Even if it's true that it's only 3 hours, I'm fine with that since 3DS' battery life is also pretty much of that time as well.)
I just hope that Nintendo can surprise me in a good way and make me unable to sleep after the Switch event due to excitement.

In an recent interview it was revealed that Yajima (anime producer I think) wanted Ash and Greninja to have a bond but found it hard to do as just a greninja, so he went to GF. They came up with Ash Greninja and then it made it's way to Sun and Moon.

Which is pretty big to think about imo. It also discusses why there are no fillers and the basis for the kiss scene between Serena and Ash, and its implications.

Thoughts?

. . .Well I don't have the willpower to avoid what I know I won't like.

. . .Did someone just use the Vita still getting third party support and the Wii U not as an argument as to why third party support actually matters? If anything that kind of proves the opposite since even the Wii U sold better than the Vita. Like. . .*looks up* about three times better.

Anyway, Nintendo's biggest and staunchest handheld-only franchise is being incredibly obviously hinted to be ending up on the Switch at some point in interviews, so that goes in favor of consolidated support.

As for why 2016 sucked, I'm of the mind that support was so low specifically BECAUSE every developer was moving their support over to the Switch instead, which by default would mean the Switch would do better at the cost of using the Wii U as a sacrifice.

Other than that, I'm not even sure there were many arguments to refute, as most of the comments were either too vague of condemnation or were people just deciding to wait before they make any judgement.

Been a frequent lurker on GAF so threads like that don't surprise me.

I would actually disagree with "gameplay comes first", especially when the market is as saturated with certain genres as it is now.

Appealing context and solid gameplay mechanics are equally important in deciding what games a person wants.

I mean, you could have a solid shooter with polished mechanics and all that, but there are plenty of those out there. That's why games like Overwatch and Uncharted tend to be held in higher regard than most other shooters and actually appeal to people who don't normally play shooters. The context of the games is more fleshed out and interesting than most others.

This has been exemplified plenty of times in fighting games.

If Mortal Kombat didn't have the forbidden fruit effect, I doubt most people would've cared about the series (let's face it, MK1 was garbage). Street Fighter III, despite being an incredibly refined game, didn't strike a chord with people as much as past Street Fighters due to lacking most of the series' signature characters. Soul Calibur II sold best on the Gamecube due to Link being exclusive to that console.

So here's a new topic I want to start. A while back, I started on topic on everyone's opinions of Lillie as a character. With the success of that discussion, I think it's time we examine another character from the Pokemon series. Unlike Lillie, this character is a pretty controversial one; fans either like this character or they don't hold her in high regards.

What is your opinion of Zinnia, and where would you rank her in terms of your favorite characters in the main series?

I'm interested in seeing what is everyone's stance on her.

You could say she's more of a guilty pleasure character. I liked how we learned about the Draconid people and Rayquaza's backstory through her, and she does have some nice facial expressions combined with an intriguing personality. I wish we learned more about Aster's backstory though. It seems pretty clear the character meant a lot to Zinnia, adding a tragic backstory for her. I also felt some sympathy her when she treated her Whismur like it was a daughter, as if it was a reminder of Aster.

I know Adventures explores more about her, but I wish Zinnia made an appearance in Generations and the anime. I think both could've improved her for the better. With the anime's case, I think she could've tied into XY&Z's plot starting with Mega Evolution Acts II and III that featured Rayquaza and the Megalith. I can see the writers tying in the ancient stone with the Draconid story. Then Zinnia eventually discovers Zygarde after learning Lysandre's reasons for obtaining the Megalith, and she realizes how similar Zygarde and Rayquaza are for their respective regions (perhaps they could even add some lore about the two dragons sharing some kind of relationship). This eventually leads to her finding Ash and the gang, and when she learns about Bonnie owning one of the Zygarde Cores, she starts to bond with her. We then learn Zinnia is fond of Bonnie not only because of her having a Zygarde Core, but also because Bonnie reminds her of Aster. Thus, Zinnia and Bonnie develop a mother-daughter kind of bond. I can also imagine Team Flare being responsible for killing Aster instead of the Devon Corporation, where we learn Lysandre tried to obtain the Megalith sometime in the past but the Draconids tried to stop him with little success, resulting in many deaths for the latter (Aster among them). Thus, Zinnia's motivations for what she does would also come from her deep hatred towards Lysandre, and she would be one of the few characters who knows Lysandre's true nature before the plant apocalypse he tried to cause.

Generations too could've helped Zinnia. I can imagine one episode exploring more of her motivations in stealing the Mega Stones while elaborating on her backstory in order to put her in a more sympathetic light.

She does have a pretty awesome theme (both encounter and battle), and I like her signature Pokemon.

I think Nintendo cares for Metroid just fine, just not in the same way or to the same extremely high intensity as it's fandom.

Nintendo sees a space opera in it that they want to build up and doesn't have the storytelling skills to quite pull it off, while the fandom just wants what they already have like with everything else that doesn't get complaints about not changing enough and doesn't want any kind of plot at all. That's a disconnect, not hatred.

And NoA wouldn't have much say in that either way, anyway.

Now if you want something Nintendo doesn't care for, that's F-Zero, but then they have a reason to think no one other than a minority cares for it either considering how the games flopped hard and towards the end they even tried to promote F-Zero with an anime that also flopped pretty terribly before they gave up.

Heck, I heard Earthbound had a pretty huge marketing push in the US that backfired enough to make Nintendo nervous about touching it again in western regions, too, but fortunately for that franchise a new generation of people got so attached to it that they decided to change their minds on Eshop support and localization for the other titles.

I was thinking it the first time I saw it, but if I was a leaker I would have put Terraria in there somewhere instead of Minecraft.

Minecraft tends to be pretty slow to port, while Terraria's devs already said some pretty weird stuff about the at-the-time NX. I doubt Minecraft's anywhere near launch, but Terraria has a pretty darn good chance to be. 505 Games is on the developer list and Mojang isn't, too.

Hmm, yeah. Looking at Lupinko's tweets, he mentions #datmarvel on New Years Day, showing off a MvC2 image of Felicia vs Sentinel. Later on he posts a bunch of tweets with images, starting with:

Looks like /v/ is a free-for-all when it comes to hatred, not that what little I've glimpsed of 4Chan when people on more tame sites link it implies otherwise.

On the bright side, at least the site doesn't censor more minor words when used in a larger word.

I've been places that censor far more when just used in words, and believe me, as sad as being unable to name chimney sweeps and certain Japanese names is, certain words and letter chains being banned is FAR worse.

Especially when they're words used normally in the English language. Nevermind when someone trolls you via commenting a large amount of uncensored major profanity and you can't even say their name because it has the word "assassin" in it.

And that was probably the most NSFW images I've seen on a single website, too, with plenty of profanity being scrawled out as well, so it got even more absurd.

That. . .brought a lot of bad out of me at the time. I'm glad I'm never going online with Colors 3D again.

*EDIT* For context on that punchline, imagine Miiverse, only with the report method too convoluted and disconnected from the actual program to actually use. Yeah.
