If this many people actually bought the game, we might have had actual holiday releases for the Wii U this year and last year. And Sonic Boom likely never would have happened.
I feel like pulling up a list of video games that have actually sold equal or higher to this viewcount just for the heck of it. Admittedly it's from Wikipedia, but hey, this is for fun.
Tetris
Minecraft
Wii Sports
Grand Theft Auto 5
Super Mario Bros
Mario Kart Wii
Tetris (Gameboy)
That's where anything 35 million or higher cuts off. And three of those were pack ins.
The highest selling Sonic game on the list I pulled up was the original at 15 million copies, and I'm pretty sure that was also a pack in at one point.
If Sonic Lost World had sold equivalent to this viewcount, Sonic would be all over every news station. It would be a cultural phenomenon to an unprecedented degree. Even Pokemon at the height of Pokemon fever never sold as much as that in a single release by a wide margin. He would have singlehandedly nearly tripled the Wii U's sales at that kind of amount, and I think possibly even sold more copies than the number of Wii U and Gamecube systems combined.
As it stands, this is still an absurdly high YouTube view count to the point of being significantly higher than pretty much any video game system announcement trailer not outright set as an ad and I'm pleasantly surprised this many people even still care about Sonic considering he's essentially the internet's punching bag at this point.
