I think I was going to respond but changed my mind. SWF's rough draft save feature must have kept it on. I tend to spend a long time responding to posts rather than posting immediately. Can't count all the times where I'd spend a half hour trying to respond to a post in the Staff board only to change my mind. I think I was planning on posting this:

I've explained to some of my friends that SEGA is trying to kill Sonic, notice how Sonic's last three games, Lost World, Sochi 2015, and Boom have all been terribly unsuccessful, yet all of them are getting sequels. Also Boom (Sonic's take on Pokemon) was a huge faniancial disaster, yet it's being treated like a huge success, to the point where they're considering making MOVIES, ****ING MOVIES. Even in Smash Bros Sonic had little to no effort into being brought back. So I think they're trying to kill off the franchise as it slowly dies, to focus in other things. It's like Sonic is turning into a hedgehog version of Mighty no. 9.

Sure things aren't going well for Sonic, but your jumping to that conclusion is just plain wrong. It's not Sonic that SEGA's painting a target on with this continuing on with the abomination that is Sonic Boom, SEGA's basically painting the target on themselves.

I would say, that I would be worried the lower-end employees wouldn't be able to find work, but honestly? I don't believe that. I bet any decent programmer from Konami could leave right now and find a job easily...and regardless the experience of finding a job would be less painful than working for Konami.

Also, a Japanese transwoman was bullied off Tumblr as she believed said character wasn't trans and got messages like '***' 'homo/transphobe' 'you don't know their culture' and 'it doesn't matter if you're trans, the Japanese are naturally feminine'. The people who want more transgender characters in video games seem to be worse than some transphobic people...

Can you guys think of many plausible characters that would sit in the 1980-1984 stage of All-Star mode? Literally the only ones I can think of that would come remotely close are DK Jr and Balloon Fighter. Though technically Duck Hunt Duo could slot in prior to that as the Duck first appeared in 1979.

Not just speaking about DLC wise, just in general.

Ice Climbers were January 1985, and depending on the source you look at Balloon Fight was first released in 1984...

I don't think Balloon Fighter or DK Jr. are plausible DLC characters.

Not surprised in the least.

Banjo-Kazooie, Shantae, Travis, Bomberman, and Klonoa have absolutely no chance whatsoever.
While I don't think they're as big no-hopers as the aforementioned five, I don't think there's much hope for Isaac and Rayman either.
I consider King K. Rool and Inkling to both be disconfirmed.
Shovel Knight, I won't comment on because I don't really have an opinion on the rumor either way.

I'd be shocked if there was that many characters left, period.

But that specific group?

I'd be surprised that Shantae and Klonoa were even seriously considered, let alone added to the game, and I'd think it was stupid that a fancharacter (Travis) made it into Smash and ask where Coldsteel the Hedgeheg is.

I don't care for/like most of them. Banjo and Rayman are already no-hopers for me anyway. Honestly it is the preferable outcome of the two for me.

Yeah, we pretty much have everyone who even matters from the 1980-1984 range. Their bases are even covered by having Wire frame mac as an alt, the only real characters of note otherwise would be DK Jr and the like, but they really don't have a place in Smash.
We got the 6 classic characters, a Galaxian, an S flag, Flatzone, 75m and 2 Pac Man stages. I think that's more than enough early 80's representation anyway.
