Wow, that's interesting. Over here we learn equally about the major religions, and a bit less about the smaller ones. It's also illegal to push beliefs onto students, which is a great law since it supports free will and respect.

Honestly, I don't care what you believe. As long as you treat others with respect and act like a decent human being I can respect you back.
And I think that should happen.

Teach at least the basics so that when you meat someone with those beliefs you aren't standing there not knowing how to talk to them.

This is an inherent flaw with the concept of Hell to me - an omnipotent God capable of creating our Universe should be aware that everyone on Earth is dealt the same hand when it comes to God. Everybody has faith that their own God exists, it's hard to distinguish which faith is more credible, etc. A God should logically be aware of this, meaning that the conclusion that God sends people to hell for a lack of belief is inherently absurd. I mean, if he's omnipotent, this means he should literally be an infinite being, being as aware of each microsecond of our daily lives as he is of every atom. That's the nature of omnipotence.

So I don't believe hell can exist, and I believe that it's used primarily as a deceptive "recruitment" tool by religion to scare people into religion. There are a number of ways people can corrupt religion for gain. Just look at Televangelists. They basically steal money from unsuspecting and desperate people looking for answers.
I like to believe that God is an asshole that created us because he was alone
But then, he uses us as enegy when we die because that's the only way he can keep existing
And in the end he just transforms half of the Earth's population into murder birds to kill the other half and restart the universe
He's also a Sephiroth fanboy and hot
But he hates the Goddess of the nearest planet because she doesn't kill everyone
And he's all like "gimme that power"
And then a british young man, his best friend, Aegis from Persona, a guy that got backstabed twice by his two best friends, a woman who was engaged with a guy but is now banging his expy, Pearl from Steven Universe and a hero go **** his **** up and make a world with no need for him

Eh. Might as well throw this in there. I was taught about Abraham in my college ancient history lecture because he was so influential of a figure that he spawned three major religions.

Most of the Americans in that class already had an idea. The Chinese students I knew needed a primer (by me) on who he was.

Yeah. Most of the Asian cultures have great taste in fried chicken. There are some Asian owned restaurants I have eaten at that have had better fried chicken than even a southern specialty type restaurant.
Can confirm, fried chicken is delicious here.

I went to a magnet school after switching out of my Christian school. The school focused on International Studies/ Technology, and so I was taught about Christianity (and some other major forms), Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism, Confucian, Islam, and possibly some more. A lot about the history of Islam as my social studies class also covered Middle East issues.

For those of you who are unaware: magnet schools are public schools.

i think gnosticism is really fascinating to study
it's like this bizarre au of christianity
it's so weirdly prevalent among media too
the matrix, ghost in the shell, evangelion, madoka, utena, the entire xeno series, lost, aeon flux, megaten, ff7, ff10, lain

(semi-related: i'm aware of nge's background with regards to symbolism, but the gnostic stuff is far too big to be a coincidence)

I had to do a powerpoint about Shintoism in 9th grade, that was so much fun. It's one of the most interesting religions I've read about.

Lol, same.
Whenever everyone is praying I'm kinda just like "help me I don't understand".
(Note: I'm not so inept as to not understand what to actually do :p)

it's... difficult to explain
putting it as simply as possible, the god of christianity isn't really a supreme being but he did create the universe
and it acts as a sort of "prison" to escape
that sort of apotheosis being the endgoal of course

there are a lot of weird complexities and snarls, particularly from it heavily revolving around disagreeing sects and such
for example, in some teachings, the serpent in eden was actually jesus

I am thankful that we can discuss this in a pleasant and polite manner.
While I am also thankful, I cannot help but chuckle at how this thread can erupt into flame wars over silly pictures and obscure video-game characters, but peacefully discuss a controversial subject matter like religion and God.

With that said, despite all our religious and political differences, I'm grateful we can get still relatively get along with one another as Nintendo fans. We all have that one commonality that, by the end of the day, brings us all together.

EDIT: Ahhh, somebody already quoted me by the time I edited this quote. Now I sound outdated, blarg.

Loki is a freak, in a good way. I like that Marvel comic's Loki is gender fluid to kind of reflect this.

As far as learning about religion in school, most of it was through AP World History in my sophomore year of high school. Basically the basics of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism (though IIRC that's more of a philosophy than a religion, but it was still lumped in since it kinda fit), Taoism, and a bit of Shintoism, mainly since they had impacts on the material we were studying.

Other than that, just a couple of religious stories from my World Literature class, also in tenth grade. Mainly one or two Christian stories that were really early literature, and that our summer reading was Angela's Ashes and Siddhartha, which both had very religious undertones and overtones.

Basically, the taboo is more so about teaching religion itself in public schools, not teaching about religion.

it's like
there might be a god (or gods, supernatural forces, etc)
or there might not be
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Well, to put my imput on the subject (or not if I'm too late into this)

I've grown up on Christianity, but from what was explained, I believe I'm more "Agnostic" since I think a God may be a thing, I can't question against one being out there, but I believe science proving the things that makes the universe and all that kinds of stuff.

Although I'm not very religious, I don't go out to "praise the lord" or stuff, but again, I don't deny it either. And just to point it out, I don't approve of forcing religious on others, we should all believe what we want to believe, there's no harm done doing so, imo.

May I remind you of Zeus's many shenanigans? Birthing Dionysus and Athena and impregnating a woman as a Golden Shower (not the gross one like actual gold)

Just finished Chapter 1 of King's Quest. But now I have to wait until the next episode and I can't wait that long. This game is too good that i'm already desperate :(

That's Alpha. SF3 takes place after SF2 and 4. How can you tell? Ken's son is much older than he was before, Ryu knows the Denjin Hadouken and Chun-Li retired from Interpol and became a trainer/teacher for orphan kids

Q?
...I don't think I've ever heard of this character...Let's check his wiki page...
Blah blah linked to disasters...blah...wait...
"Interestingly enough, Q's remixed theme in Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition sounds very similar to the theme of the X Files series."
Does it?
Huh...well then.
I kinda want Q in Street Fighter V now. Not enough Illuminachos confirmed.

Going back to Cody being in Street Fighter. What do you guys think the chances of it being a new character with close relations to Cody? Like a protegee, or heck even daughter or son?

I was about to say "I'm surprised Street Fighter has a canon and overarching story."

Then I realized that I am a huge fan of Skullgirls, which is a story that is held behind a fighting game.

Darn, looks like I'm a bit late to the religion topic but I'll add my part anyways.

I've been a buddhist all my life but I've always been interested to learn about other religions. As a kid, I used to attend a Chinese catholic school that always did various prays during the morning assemblies but I never really took part because at the time I just didn't really understand the concept of 'praying'. In primary school, we had this Religious Education (mostly relating to Jesus) program that occurred once a week for an hour or so but my parents didn't enrol me in it because I was buddhist. However, during my last year at the school, I chose to take part in the program on my own accord and I found it quite interesting.

However, I still will probably continue to be a buddhist. Buddhism deals with a lot of spiritual development and practices and I've taken part in a lot of these over the years. Burning incense, offering foods on special occasions and burning 'hell money' has always been apart of my life. Even during the new year, my family spend the entire day at temples and listening to various monks speak; a very nice and wise experience.

No, not even Capcom wants to reference that trash heap.

Edit:
Well Mortal Kombat and BlazBlue have an overarching plot with it's fighting game

It's not anywhere good, but it has a much deeper story

Embezled? What mean?
From this day forward instead of saying "Illuminati confirmed" I will say "Q confirmed" and then play his theme which sounds very similar to the X-Files theme.
I mean, it's not relevant because I don't ever say that, but I figured it's important to say it so people understand.

BlazBlue's story is a complex mess because Time Travel is entangled into it.

But once again, I didn't think Street Fighter... "bothered" with a story because of it was so rooted in arcades.

Then again, they had to have some material to make a mediocre cartoon and a garbage live action film.
