Y’know, the more I think about it the more I wonder why Trevor wasn’t the Simon Echo instead of Richter. I know Richter’s popular in Japan but Trevor had international appeal with the anime and Castlevania lll is a lot more popular than Rondo of Blood is (at least outside the core Castlevania game community).

All Richter really has going for him is he’s a prominent character in SotN while Trevors imposter only cameos. Maybe he was chosen because he had gameplay potential?

I know it’s unreasonable, but there is a pretty big part of me that wants Trevor to be a Simon Echo next game alongside Richter. Assuming we don’t get Alucard next time that is.

Oh I never would expect a Deluxe edition of Smash Ultimate on Switch, no of course not. It would have to happen on a new console. Would make no sense at all to release the same game on a console twice.

I do still expect it to happen to the next console however. It has been stated too many times, Ultimate just cannot be topped. So why even try ? Once you've delivered the absolute best you can, where do you go from there ? Keep in mind, Sakurai might not even be the director next time, so if that's the case, why not try and port Ultimate to the successor of the Switch?

Seems a way more logical approach than what happened with Mario Kart 8. There are quite some complaints about MK8 that they never really addressed, and much has to do with the roster of playable characters.

To be fair, Nintendo don't always make "logical" decisions. It's one of their best and worst qualities.

I couldn't want Funky before having Diddy back. He's the weirdest absence to the current day Mario Kart roster. And it's especially shameful since even Link, Inkling and Villager are there weirdly enough.

This is definitely true.

Richter is the original (and in some cases only) practitioner of a number of Simon’s moves, so he honestly makes more sense than Trevor. That and the Castlevania Netflix series wasn’t even out when the characters were selected, and that entire production seems independent from the games.

His game is also the best in the series, but that’s neither here nor there.

Ultimate just cannot be topped. So why even try ?
I mean, there is more than one way to make a well-received, well-selling game. EiH, at the end of the day, was just a gimmick and a marketing slogan that was able to occur due to some very unique and specific circumstances. There are plenty of other potential gimmicks, marketing slogans, brand new features/contents/characters, or more polished visuals that can get people excited enough to buy a game, especially if it's the only version of their favorite party and/or fighting game released on the latest console.

Personally, I think they could very easily "top" Ultimate if they put their eggs in the right baskets, but of course it depends on what your barometer is for a successful Smash game. If the percentage of returning veterans or the raw number of characters no matter who they are is your only measuring stick, then you're probably set up for mega disappointment and, frankly, a mindset that is closed off to the positives of having a more organized and well-rounded roster.

why not try and port Ultimate to the successor of the Switch?
Because it may not be feasible for a number of reasons? Or even desirable if it forces you to use old assets that may not look as good anymore or prevents you from marketing the game as a brand new experience?

And guess what? Ultimate isn't perfect either. Do you ignore all the complaints about how platforms work in it, the input lag, its netcode, etc.? There's more to a game's quality than its roster's quantity, otherwise you might as well say Ultimate sucks because DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 has 161 playable characters.

I never got into 3 but their cameos in sotn made me get into their lore despite not playing

Richter tho was in DraculaX the very difficult but rewarding snes title and spiritual (and nearly literal) predecessor to symphony.

The Netflix series capitalized well on sypha and of course the Richter Series is coming.

I too would enjoy a Trevor clone and
Alucard and Grant and sypha too God imagine if the next game the css is by series it's that big ha

Yes, MK8 happened but it was an incredibly unique situation; doing this repeatedly will get people very tired very fast.
I think it depends on the frequency of release, really. If they're just putting these things out like sports games, then yeah, people would (rightfully) get annoyed. But Smash typically comes out only once a console generation. That's enough both for people to want more and for the previous title to get severely out-dated (not to mention hard to find if console-makers don't take more advantage of digital releases).

So what, exactly, was Smash for WiiU's marketing? I mean, 3DS at least had the promise of Smash on the go, but I can't really recall its console counterpart having much going for it besides just "it's the new Smash for the current console"?

I was talking about Mario Kart 8. Don't put words in my mouth or put me in some sort of corner. I said nothing regarding to the complaints about Ultimate.

Hey anyone!
How you guys tried to predict what new Mode will be created?

I predict that we can have Classic Creator (PeridotGX) and Battle Royale as Game Modes.

And in Next Smash, new director of SSB won't put any Non-Sense Joke Characters like Shy-Guy or uncanny characters like Arwing.

I mean, I didn't say it had to have a marketing gimmick or anything like that. But if you want one, then there are other possible ones besides EiH.

Wii U I think it was clear during that time that the marketing was based around "hey, this character is in this other game that you can also go play." Which of course has always been there but I think especially so during the leadup to 4.

Edit: Wii U/3DS also had a few other things that were USPs or novelties at the time, like Amiibos and custom moves and being able to create custom Mii fighters.

I don't really understand the need for Ultimate Deluxe. Especially when the next system is going to be a Switch 2 with backward compability. Why would Nintendo waste resources on a port of game that you already play on the system already

Don't bring up Wii U ports as an example either as those games were port due to different architecture + Nintendo trying make up the sales they lost from the Wii U

I stand the next approach is a Nintendo Vs. or a spiritual successor whether JRPG or whatever another genre.
It'd avoid the whole backlash of cuts.
Because otherwise I'd rather they keep porting the game with updates or an Ultimate Deluxe Edition.
A Smash Bros VS Shonen Jump would actually a great evolution/sequel from Ult. We already done Video Games. How about Video Games vs Anime?

I think the idea that Smash should completely change genre or reboot is just because of the notion that a 'normal' Smash sequel that only has like 60 characters would pail in comparison to Ultimate.
A downgraded Ultimate would be worse. a Reboot would have something Ultimate can't do and better

One compromise that might work is to go all in on a Subspace Emissary style platforming campaign and make that the main focus. I feel like that mode has a ton of unrealized potential. If they set out to make as good of a co-op campaign as possible, they could make everything else secondary. There would still be an option for normal battles but it would be more of a secondary mode, like Mario Kart’s battle mode. A great campaign would definitely make a smaller roster more forgiving.
Honestly, Subspace Emissary in of itself was pain to make and honestly, outside of cutscenes, wasn't really good. Medicore

At that point, why not just ask for it be like a movie instead, You can get Pros of SE without the cons which is the gameplay.

Have and enjoy fun with the cut roster of 30-40 characters. ;)

Agreed. This is the direction they should go with at this point that way there will be less complaints of cuts since it'd be a different step from Smash.

Do you have a source for this? If this is your assumption/opinion that's fine but using it as a fact to justify your comment is fallacious without evidence.

So no... That is not the logical progression of the statements made about sse.

To put another way, when Brawl was in development it was extremely important to them to focus on the Fun Factor because Melee had blown up huge and there was so much enthusiasm that it was an immediate let down to many consumers.

"Why is it so slow?"

That was the most commonly asked question amongst my peers, and a large swath of the market. Character additions aside the SSE boasted being a new way to experience Smash, as a platforming beat em up. In hindsight yes, they'd admit to having spent too much resources on the mode despite it's lackluster reception but honestly the milk was soured already with online being trash, tripping, etc.

Personally I love that mode. It was fun! Tedious at times, sure because it's a Fighting Game so you wanna eventually get to the fighting part lol but unlocking all characters in a fighter is like the first priority when you get it so this elaborate method was pretty neat IMHO.

That said, I'd not expect them to revisit the SSE format but I wouldn't be opposed to a story mode that did include a short fmv at the end of each character's run.

And the biggest question is: What's the subtitle of Smash 6?
I'm on a tie with Unleashed, Generations, and Kerfuffle.
I think it will go in Rebooted very likely.
the Roster now is too big and we need to remove some characters like Palutena, Piranha Plant and even 3rd parties like Sora and Sonic (That's a shame, but we need to embrace tradition of Nintendo Allstars).

I mean, sure there's a possibility that people won't complain much about not being able to play as Snake or Ridley but I really don't know any series that completely shook up the genre and didn't get some sort of backlash from the fans.

There'll still be objections, they'll just focus on somewhere else.

How about

Smash!

And they drop the Super and Bros.

I know a lotta folks who call it smash bros

I call it smash.

The Bros. (Brothers or Bros however you say it) part always threw me off like is it an homage to Super Mario Bros.? Duh.....

But yeah just call it Smash!

And then it can be a game about videogame characters fighting in a tournament of legendary status with representation from all corners of gaming as it has been through the ages.

Rebranded. Rebooted. Restarted? Meh it's all words that mean the same thing. The next Smash!

Sonic is probably without a doubt the most likely 3rd party to return. Nintendo and Sega are so close in relationship one could consider Sonic an honorary Nintendo franchise at this point.

Bro, it's very impossible to Bring back all gaming Characters due to license. In fact, We know that next Smash is actually Nintendo Allstars. Plus, some people are tired of Third Parties being in Nintendo Game.
So we appreciate that next Smasn goes back to it's Late 90's/Early 2000's Roots with only Nintendo Characters and no one else from 3rd parties.

Yeah, but he would end up as Cameo Collectible Trophy along with others like Pacman or Megaman.
Next Game has only Nintendo Characters playable, unless 3rd Parties will appear as Mii Costumes, but they would have same function like Mii's Gear in Mario Kart 8/8 Deluxe.

That feels like a stretch, really.

I'd consider Bayonetta or Fatal Frame as honorary Nintendo series before Sonic which keeps games on other platforms all the time.

Here's how we can reboot Smash:

Super Smashed Bones, where you fight each other and realistically break your bones for every hit you take.
No, that would bring everyone's nightmares, where everyone gets beaten up by Nintendo Characters and break everyone's bones.
Ugh. I don't want to think about it.

I better want to see Nintendo Allstars: Rebooted! as Super Smash Bros. Reboot.

ROFL I think we get it

Bro, it's very impossible to Bring back all gaming Characters due to license.
Why does an open invitation for any character to join the new game equal the idea that anyone wants exactly the same roster as Ultimate? They're completely different things.

So we appreciate that next Smasn goes back to it's Late 90's/Early 2000's Roots with only Nintendo Characters and no one else from 3rd parties.
So Melee. I think it's a terrible idea to limit the choices of the developers like that. 3rd party rep was a contentious issue with Brawl but it also created a need which Nintendo has to weigh in terms of fulfilling.

Dump all 3rd parties and lose how many players? Maybe none it's not important.

Being disappointed that there may be 3rd party reps in the next game? Ok! You do you. I'm personally in favor of anyone being allowed.

Not BACK.

Just there.

For me the most interesting single player content is the adventure mode, so it would be fun to see if they do something different or similar to a past mode like WoL or SSE. I also would hope for the return of a boss rush mode where you fight like 10+ bosses in a row.
We coukd have platformer levels like in Melee.

Smash has become very reliant on 3rd Parties as of late for the hype they come with. It’d be a big marketing blunder to ditch the thing that gets eyes on the game.

The way I see it, the licensing was able to be done and the characters have all been well received, even if they don’t make it in base. Their chances as returning DLC are high.

While I’m not entirely against a return to pure First and Second Party inclusions, given how many 3rd Parties play a massive role in Nintendos legacy I don’t see how getting rid of them is gonna make Smash any better.

Unless we gonna keep Megaman, Simon, Pac-Man, Banjo-Kazooie and possibly Sonic (If SEGA returns to console Business) as Third Parties, so no problem.
But Ryu, Snake, Kazuya, Terry and Steve are gonna get removed because of their license getting expired and we won' gonna see them anymore in future Reboot.

Yeah and Nintendo Allstars should happen again.
Said this before, but saying nintendo all stars as if smash isn't already still that just seems to be way too much of a hyper fixation on the word phrase Nintendo all stars itself, rather than actually knowing what you're talking about when you're saying it...

Yeah, a reboot would just be complete overhauls for like 64 and Melee vets and maybe some from Brawl... Smash bros vs shonen jump is just as ridiculous as any other troll proposal of stuff like making smash 6 a movie or a 3d smash etc lol. I don't get the point in these ridiculous proposals if they didn't happen from smash 4 to ultimate lol, even within the context of trolling lmao. We're not getting a full on reboot anyway, but I don't get what the point is of these troll idea of wanting smash to become less popular anyway lmao, outside of ridiculously low fruit trolling

Well, that poses the question. How do we know Kazuya is gonna leave? If Pac Man is in the game, Bamco is still involved in Smash. Harada specifically requested Tekken would be put in Smash, so is there anything big stopping them from reintroducing it?

Same with Snake, Ryu, and Steve. Konami, Capcom, and Microsoft are still involved, why cut them? Its just losing peoples interests.

Sure, you are a supporter for Nintendo All Stars, and I’m fine with it, but so many other people are gonna say “Well, if the game doesn’t have the characters I like, I’ll just go back to Ultimate” And then we’ll have another split in the community like with Melee, and Nintendo will lose customers and money.

Personally, I think Nintendo should try to get as many 3rd Parties back as possible for base, get the rest back for DLC, and keep building with more content from there.

TBH the user is acting as if Smash isn't still a nintendo all stars game, so I think they're just more fixated on the phrase itself rather than knowing what they're actually talking about when they're referring to it... No offence but we literally got 2 first parties in pass 2, so smash is still mainly a Nintendo all stars game lmao. TBH if there were any first parties they thought were absolute must haves, they would have gotten in place of some of the third parties lol... Instead, the only first parties we get nowadays are relatively recent, suggesting they don't really think there are any must haves... With this in mind, seems like the only way in regards to first parties is, quite literally, up... That can also be said as well for third parties in a more general sense too, I guess, excluding vets and such

Even tho, I'm gonna change my mind that Kazuya and other are not gonna be removed from the Game, but some of them could come as DLC Characters, since the Reboot's roster will become smaller than Smash 4.

That can also be said as well for third parties in a more general sense too, I guess, excluding vets and such
You know what I'm gonna say about it.
Nintendo Allstars is Still Nintendo when it has 3rd Parties, but if it has too much than Nintendo Characters, then I'm scared that it will open floodgates to other Obscure characters and they will ruin Smash Bros franchise like Bubsy.

If that really is your logic, then I'm not too sure it sticks... Characters like Bubsy aren't gonna get in smash, and even if they somehow did... They wouldn't really be obscure... and obscurity is subjective anyway...And Nintendo has certainly made plenty of one offs in their time lol. That's probably a key reason why people speculate big named third parties specifically lol, cos of course they're not gonna be literally anyone.
