For non-evil bosses:
  • Gouken (Think Sheng Long's EGM joke but officially made a reality)
  • Doshin the Giant (Yes, this may be a recurring theme)
  • The four leaders from Gamindustri (My biased a** prefers them as playable, but having them as bosses would be cool. And not in their Dark CPUs forms; just human, HDD and NEXT forms) [inb4 "why do you call a groomer (Vert) not evil!?]
  • Bubsy (a joke boss)

Are you happy now?
Oh, I just wanted examples, thanks for answering! I appreciate it!

I wonder how Gouken could act? Could basically be a Giga Bowser (Melee) version of Ryu? Basically the same but with elecricity effects in many of his attacks?

Now that I think about it, which Neptunia games have appeared in Nintendo consoles?

yes. don't know em. more so than the others. yes
Shionne is the main female character from Tales of Arise. She’s a gunner with healing magic and gives the main character the ability to use his flame sword, which is very powerful but drains his health.

If Pyra and Mythra are considered dual protagonists along with Rex, do you think the same holds true for other characters like Mio, Shionne, Yuna, and Princess Garnet? Often times, the story is more focused on their journey than the player character’s. I’ve always considered them to be dual protagonists along with the player character but I’m curious to hear what you think. I personally feel like these characters often have more varied and interesting moveset potential as Smash characters than the player character in those games as well.
Mio is outright the co protagonist of XC3. She and Noah are the dual leads of the story. Both off-seers are equally important to the game's plot.
------

Anywho, one thing that seems like it would be worth considering is a League of Legends character. Full disclosure, I do not care for League of Legends. My enjoyment of League starts and ends at Arcane. But League is massive and iconic and shows no signs of slowing down. More people play League than live in Great Britain, France, and Spain combined. League also would specifically appeal to Nintendo if they want to continue trying to push into the rest of the Asian market. Id say its reasonably likely.

I’m in exactly your position as far as the actual game goes. I’m not really big on online competitive only games like MOBAs but I always liked the design of the champions. It wasn’t until Arcane that I became really invested. Arcane is an amazing show and my personal favorite show or movie based on a game. I also played the digital TCG, Runeterra a bit and it seemed pretty fun. My knowledge is still mostly limited to Arcane and the Ruined King RPG on the Switch but I’d love to see a character in Smash. I try to bring up LoL every now and then because I feel it’s being overlooked.

I was just wondering something. Do you think that fighting games are the only genre where we could likely see a villain or popular side character make it in before the main protagonist? It at least seems like that’s the case so far. We did get Min Min over Spring Man and I see a lot more support for Scorpion and Nightmare compared to Liu Kang and Kilik. Heihachi seemed to be the original consideration before Jin and we ended up with Kazuya, who while he was the main character at one point, hasn’t been for a while. Killer Instinct doesn’t really see a ton of support from Smash fans but Fulgore seems to be a more popular request than Jago from what little I’ve seen.

I can think of a few other potential examples from other genres where we could get a villain first like Arthas and Diablo but I feel like they might be the exception. You could also make an argument that Pyra and Mythra are another example of getting someone other than the main character but I personally view them as co-protagonists with Rex.
Well to be honest, fighting games tends to lean more into a “ensemble cast” feel from the perspective of gameplay connection. Whereas something like platformers tend to have one primary (and often times only one depending on which games in those franchises) playable character that people would spend a lot of time controlling and thus making a personal connection through hours spend playing, the same can’t necessarily be said for fighting games as the meat of the gameplay experience is multiplayer and there are tons of playable characters in fighting games.

In other words, whilst someone who grew up playing and enjoying Crash Bandicoot games would naturally have a strong connection to Crash himself, people who played and enjoyed ARMS would have tons of options to have a personal connection with, which is why you see so many strongly preferring the likes of Min Min and Twintelle over Spring Man.

That makes a lot of sense. The middle ground for these would be JRPGs where there’s one main protagonist but the story revolves around all of the party members and their interactions. The rest of the party is with the main character for most of the adventure but often take a bit of a back seat in terms of importance to the story. The issue is that (in my opinion at least) these characters are often more interesting both character and gameplay wise than the hero. Main characters can tend to be a bit plain in both aspects. This actually works well for the games themselves in order to let the others stand out but it can potentially result in Smash getting a lot of similar characters if it relies on only using the main protagonist.

I just hope they were able to move on from the admittedly awkward timing of Twintelle's popularity boost. It was a little hard to tell which people genuinely wanted her, and which ones would go on to accuse Nintendo of being racist when Min Min got added instead...

Yes, that was a thing that happened in a few places.

All of y'all with 10+ 1st party characters in your top 18 are ****ing up.

Fighting games is one of the few genres where the villains are playable normally. The 1st fighter from a series might not always be a hero, but they'll probably at least be someone playable.

For that reason, I think Arthas and Kerrigan has a better shot than Diablo, because they have full campaigns in their home games. Though, Diablo is at least playable in Heroes of the Storm.

...I mean, it said "18 characters" with no real limits. Nobody is screwing it up. They're just putting what they want and it's not by Ultimate's limitations. Just following the exact rules(which is mostly "no rules"). The only actual rule was "18 characters". I just reread the post. So... what's the problem again? That everybody has their own biases? That's the point behind it. "Do what you want".

I am 75% sure her children are just her Pokemon.
You know like how dog owners sometimes call their dogs their babies.
If I recall correctly, Zinnia named her Whismur after her child that passed away.

I'm not sure if this 18 characters is "who would you want to see in a future Smash game" or "who do you think will make it into the next Smash game", but I'll just go with my most wanted because trying to accurately predict Smash (with some broad general exceptions, like "a new Pokemon character" or "at least one new Fire Emblem character") is pointless in my experience. (or maybe it's just me - I figured that we wouldn't possibly be able to get Banjo or Sora in Smash Bros.)

1. Geno
2. Dante
3. Doomguy
4. Dixie Kong
5. Impa (Age of Calamity would be ideal, though I'd be fine with Hyrule Warriors, Skyward Sword, or Ocarina)
6. Bandanna Waddle Dee
7. Porky (I'd like to see an Earthbound character who has a considerably different moveset from Ness)
8. Crash Bandicoot
9. Ryu Hayabusa
10. Sol Badguy (I haven't played much of Guilty Gear, but it seems like the biggest Japan-made fighting game series that isn't already in Smash)
11. 2B (a long-shot, sure, but she seems like she'd be a fun character to play as - if you haven't played Nier Automata, I'd strongly recommend it)
12. Alexandra Roivas (I doubt that Eternal Darkness will ever get a Smash Bros. character, but I can dream)
13. Isaac (Golden Sun's kind of gotten screwed over)
14. Dr. Eggman (sure, I could go with Knuckles or Shadow, but Eggman seems like he'd be a lot of fun to play as)
15. Shovel Knight
16. Rayman
17. Kunio (I find it bizarre that we don't have any characters from side-scrolling beat-em-ups)
18. Travis Touchdown

If Echoes could be crammed in here, Octoling seems like a given, and I'd like to see Tails from Sonic or Jeanne from Bayonetta. (Tails would probably be more of a Ken or Chrom-style echo, where some basic moves or special moves are changed; as for Jeanne, it would be nice for her to get something after how horribly she was treated in Bayonetta 3) Also, Alph as an Echo Fighter with Rock and Winged Pikmin instead of Purple and White feels overdue. (Rock and Winged Pikmin have different effects)

I probably could have used more first party fighters, but while I feel like Sukapon would be a fitting inclusion (I like the idea of the main character of Nintendo's first attempt at a fighting game (unless you count Urban Champion) making it into their big crossover fighting game), it's hard for me to be excited about Sukapon compared to the likes of Crash, 2B, or Travis Touchdown.

1. Dr. Eggman
2. Geno
3. Crash Bandicoot
4. Spyro
5. Bandana Waddle Dee
6. Dixie Kong
7. Captain Syrup
8. Wart from Super Mario USA
9. Ryu Hayabusa
10. Waluigi
11. Shantae
12. Shovel Knight
13. Rayman
14. Isaac
15. Bomberman
16. Pauline
17. Ashley from Warioware
18. Alear from Fire Emblem Engage

Well to be fair, the original 12 consists of mainly protagonists and they are pretty diverse. Nintendo in general is pretty good at making varied protagonists. I mean it’s not as if you can say the likes of Mario, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Olimar or Fox are samey nor can you say that Chibi-Robo, Starfy, Ring Fit Trainer and Lip from Panel de Pon feel similar.

But yeah, JRPGs do tend to have somewhat of a interesting middle ground with one clear intended focus but multiple prominent playable characters. I guess that is why people didn’t mind Pyra and Mythra being playable over Rex given they are more popular despite not the protagonists or the intended principle playable character.

It’s just like the Waluigi and Ashley situations where a few people make the sane portion of the fanbase look bad.

Though the popularity boost comment is definitely interesting since it’s clear the Smash Ultimate roster based the popularity of fan demand off the 2015 ballot. It’s interesting to see what a future hypothetical ballot could end up with in terms of results.

Hell yeah! 3 Hayabusas in a row!
Ryu Hyabusa seems to be among the most popular third party requests, and deservingly so. He originated from a very popular action game from the NES days and had a successful reboot on the X-Box 360. He’s also a cool character with a lot of moveset potential. The main reason he doesn’t make my lists is because I don’t have a lot of personal experience with the series. I’ve never played a Ninja Gaiden game myself and only played a tiny bit of DOA at college. I did watch my friend play a bit of the X-Box game though. On the other hand, I played a ton of games in the Warriors franchise and put hundreds if not thousands of hours into the series, including the various spin-offs over the years. That’s why I have a much stronger personal attachment to Lu Bu as a Smash character. Hyabusa would be fun too so I wouldn’t complain to see him first.

Star Hill. Why do you ask?
there is microsoft content which probably no one is expecting that it could appear in the next smash game
i am talking about Minesweeper one of the most iconic games ever

if Pong content managed to get in i think there is a possibility of Minesweeper content
more likely as an assist trophy or stage or spirit but i think that would be interesting to see how that would work
lets not forget Minesweeper did have a Nintendo console appearance

now the real question does Minesweeper works as playable?
surprisingly he does have design that would work
the PC Engine version of Minesweeper does have a design thats close to :ultpacman:

honestly its not hard to imagine :ultpacman: with minesweeper moveset you could replace fruit with numbers and use flag, brush and plant bombs as a weapon

Since most of my most wanted are third parties at this point, I felt like I’d make another top 18 list strictly for third party characters. My original list was split 50/50 between first and third parties. I’ll also go completely full bias with this one even if the character doesn’t really make any sense to be chosen for Smash:

1. Zegram Ghart (Rogue Galaxy)
2. Magus/Guile (Chrono)
3. Rash/Pimple/Zitz (Battletoads)
4. Zero (Mega Man X)
5. Xemnas (Kingdom Hearts 2)
6. Sarah Kerrigan (StarCraft)
7. Illidan Stormrage (WarCraft)
8. Sub-Zero (Mortal Kombat)
9. Bill Rizer/Lance Bean (Contra)
10. Fulgore (Killer Instinct)
11. Alphen and Shionne (Tales of Arise)
12. Etna (Disgaea)
13. Princess Garnet (Final Fantasy IX)
14. Raziel (Soul Reaver)
15. Death (Darksiders 2)
17. Vi (League of Legends)
18. Gan Ning (Dynasty Warriors)

Geno Boost Geno Boost Pong didn't appear in Smash. Color Game-TV 15 did. Which, while pretty much the same thing as a game, is a different franchise overall. ...Probably easier to license.

I would love to see Minesweeper appear in some way, though. That sounds awesome. XD

I'll make a list of 18 later(when I'm less busy).

So ive just had some really great smash ideas!
1. They Should Change Special Smash Into a Custom Smash Mode Which Allows for each Character to recieve Diffrent Lives, Effects and maybe Rules (Like having one giant enemy with Stamina and you with percents for some masterhandy goodnes) Also if they want they can make Assist Trophys Fightable in this Mode AKA You can choose 1 as your CPU Opponent this BTW Limits Your Options!
2. Extend "Miis" And Make them into a Custom Character Slot!
For The Basics are This:
  • Add a new Mii Class either Magic or Wild (Is On Four Legs like and Animal)
  • Give every Special one Additional Attack Option
  • Have Some Taunt Customization
  • And Have The Four Final Smashes be assignable to each Class (With Slight Animation Changes Of Course)
  • Have Maybe beside Normal Mii Looks some new Options like i dunno Sprortsmates and Nintendo Things Like Links Hair or Marios Mustache
Some Other Ideas i have are here
  • Some Mii Dlc Costumes Come With a New Attack Tailored for the Character for example Papyrus (He Would be sword) would have A attack were he swings his Sword (A Bone) And it turns blue and deals major Damage if the Opponent Moved
  • Deluxe Miis (Aka Full Suits) Come with Some Facial Animations or can Atleast Blink
If they HAVE to cut all Younger/ Cute Links do ATLEAST this!
  • Have the Additional Specials for the sword Fighter be a Bow Neutral, a Bomb Down B And A Side B Boomerang
  • And Welp have a Colourable Toon Link (Or Another Smol One) Deluxe Mii Costume with Facial Animations!

A Nihon Falcom character would make sense for the next title.
I actually would’ve liked to see Estelle Bright as far as Falcom characters go. Maybe her gimmick could be that each of her special moves has a charge that can be saved for later, but only one special move can be charged at a time. This is based on Arts and Crafts from the Trails series; Arts are magic attacks that the user takes a turn to charge, and Crafts are the personal skills of each party member.

It's definitely reasonable, the big thing that was affecting League of Legends was the lack of a Nintendo presence, but that isn't longer a problem.

how would people feel about a fighter from ni no kuni?
I’d be okay with it. While I vastly prefer Rogue Galaxy and Dark Cloud as far as Level 5 goes, the No no Kuni games seemed pretty fun from what I’ve watched from a Let’s Play with ShadyPenguinn. Neither Rogue Galaxy nor Dark Cloud were on Nintendo consoles so they might be disqualified anyways if that’s still a requirement.

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (Ty the Tasmanian Tiger series)
Cuphead (Cuphead)
Andy (Advance Wars series)
Mr. Stevenson (Gumshoe)
Akira Howard (Astral Chain)
Black Panther (Black Panther) and I do NOT mean the Marvel superhero, I mean the Black Panther from Konami's arcade game Black Panther.
Daitoyou (Nintendo Hanafuda cards) him though I would like him on the other hand because he represents Napoleon who was a real man I pass.
Tengu (Nintendo Hanafuda Cards)
Mini Kangaroo (Nintendo Mini Game Series)
Nester (Nintendo Power Magazine)
Kevin Keene (Captain N: The Game Master)

Does he has a move that summons one of the Captain N versions of the characters featured in the show. (Like in the Smash Bros. Lawl Nova moveset)

If you like the idea, then here are...
  • Simon Belmont
  • Megaman
  • Kid Icarus
  • Alucard
  • Donkey Kong Sr.
  • Ganon (from DIC's Zelda series)
  • Eggplant Wizard and King Hippo
  • Link and Zelda (also from the Zelda program. If the attack fails, Link says his catchphrase)
  • Oogtar
I wanted to add a character from the Sonic cartoons, but it would clash with the Nintendo-centric stuff. Also going to add Bluster Kong, but the DKC show wasn't made by DIC so. Billy and Jimmy were as well, but there wasn't so much material from the DD cartoon.

For some reason, I came up with my new, but "unrealistic" smash reboot roster:

7. King K. Rool

9. Yoshi
10. Link (Hyrule Warriors design)
11. Zelda (BOTW incarnation)

14. Raven Beak (I wanted a new character from Metroid series)
15. Kirby
16 .Meta Knight

20. Pokemon Trainer (Charizard, Bayleaf and Mudkip)
