You know, with people discussing the new Ice Pikmin, how come I've yet to see one suggest Alph(or the new character) becoming an Echo and getting Rock and Ice Pikmin? I'm seeing more add onto Olimar's moveset posts compared to trying to make Alph an Echo Fighter like he was originally going to be.
because we’re all thinking of that dog as a unique fighter

My biggest worry about implementing a MK character would be their up-b... I wouldn't want a bad recovery like Chrom or Little Mac, but going strictly by source material I don't see many of the MK cast having a smash styled recovery. Scorpion could at least tether the ledge with his harpoon... Ermac and others could teleport like Zelda (ugh)...
Good point. Still, I can see Sub-Zero riding a wave of ice or Scorpion using his rope like weapon to grab ledges like Joker’s grappling hook as recoveries.

My idea for Sub-Zero’s Up B is his ice clone from Mortal Kombat 3. Basically, he’d leap into the air and leave a clone behind where he started the move, freezing anyone it touches. The clone would disappear after a short while or if he uses the move again to make a new clone.

The jump would just have to be a bit higher with more directional control to function as a recovery but the fundamentals for a recovery are there. Something around the distance of Captain Falcon’s recovery could work.

Dude that's brilliant!

In regards to the Sub-Zero freezing, I think I may have a solution:

From the looks of it, Sub-Zero's freezing in MK is effectively equivalent to Smash's bury mechanics. So what if in the air freezing acts normally, but on the ground it's like a reskinned bury?

That’s not a bad idea. I could see them going for something like that as a compromise between the two games’ mechanics. Zero Suit Samus’ blaster also freezes characters in place similar to Sub-Zero’s ice but for a shorter time.

Rip Rock Pikmin, no room for you on the cover, even though there's clearly a spot next to the White Pikmin which also would've made things more symmetrical

Gonna have to make due with the full art

Oatchi will be the new Pikmin playable character. To prepare for the match of the century against the new Yoshi playable character, Poochy.
You joke, but playable Poochy would be cool, NGL.

Unrelated to current discussion, but it looks like the Microsoft-ActiBlizz buyout is taking an interesting turn:

There was a problem fetching the tweet

I'll admit, I'm not ENTIRELY sure how this will play out, but FWIW ActiBlizz hasn't put THAT many games on Nintendo platforms as of late, so the outcome of the buyout isn't likely to affect the Big N in any meaningful way. Worst case scenario is that Crash's chances for Smash drop down a bit.

Wait, Nintendo wanted to buy Activision-Blizzard too?

But Oatchi (the dog's name) is definitely going to be at least an Assist Trophy, right?

Makes sense, but ATs are hard to predict. Pikmin may not even get another. It took three games for DK to get one... and it was Klaptrap.

Okay but too be fair more quadruped fighters in Smash would be based
Jokes on you, that thing only has two legs

No, this is just to get Nintendo to testify, disclosing whatever info Microsoft anticipates will be beneficial for them acquiring A-B, presumably insofar as it supports the narrative that the purchase wouldn't harm competitors.

Which I guess makes sense, since losing A-B support wouldn't harm Nintendo very much, even if MS hadn't pledged to keep some A-B titles multiplat, and bring CoD to Nintendo's platform.

Still, do you think Nintendo would actually testify?

It reveals an interesting amount of depth to their business relationship that's for sure.

Hey, does anyone know what the deal is with Fashion Dreamer? Like, it seems to reuse so many Style Savvy assets, yet it's being marketed as a whole new series?

What's more, synSophia (Style Savvy's usual developer) is apparently responsible for F.D.. So... what's going on?

Well it's not a Nintendo IP, that's for sure. Maybe synSophia needed the money, but Nintendo wasn't interested in a new Style Savvy? How well have those games done in the past?

If it's by synSophia, they probably couldn't get the greenlight from Nintendo, so they went to another publisher to invest. But they have to use a different name because Nintendo owns the rights to Style Savvy.

In the Direct trailer, Marvelous is indicated as the copyright, while the Direct also names Xseed Games, which is apparently a subsidiary of Marvelous. Nintendo's official website lists "Marvelous (XSEED)" as the publisher (I'm using the US version of the site).

Both of the following two places list syn Sophia as a developer, but it's not evident to me where they got the info from:

I don't read Japanese, but on syn Sophia's official JP site, you can see that they recently retweeted a bunch of Fashion Dreamer stuff.
So it's pretty safe to say they're involved.

In conclusion, yeah it seems that syn Sophia was looking to make another Style Savvy but either wanted or had to get a publisher other than Nintendo, unfortunately.

Scorpion has a Summersault kick that, even though he doesn't go up into the air, he could use as a recovery for Smash.

Speaking of...

Know what? Decidueye is overrated. I would've taken Rowlet alongside Incineroar just for how dang cute the former is.
I would've chosen Sceptile if I wanted a Grass starter rep. For one, we'd finally get Gen 3 representation, for another, his design is so bada**.

Funny thing is, I remember "Style Savvy 5" being reported as initially developed for 3DS, and later having its development move to the Switch. I wonder if halfway through, syn Sophia was told Nintendo didn't want to continue...

Hmm, so supposedly this is an insider from two years ago in regards to Metroid Prime Remastered and Metroid Prime 4.

-So Retro was doing something after Tropical Freeze before it got cancelled and Nintendo asked them to remake the Metroid Prime Trilogy from the ground up.
-Eventually, Nintendo of Japan became concerned about Namco's work on Prime 4, and in particular the level design for Prime 4 and had some of the art team from Retro Studios to go and help the Namco team with Prime 4. During this time, Retro still had enough team to continue on the Prime Trilogy remake.
-After the Retro Studios artists apparently nailed it out of the park with their designs for both Metroid Prime 4 and the Metroid Trilogy remake, NoJ became convinced Retro Studios should absolutely be the one to work on Metroid Prime 4 and cancelled the stuff from Namco to reboot the project with Retro and Tanabe working together again.
-As a result, with Retro focusing on both Prime 4 and Prime Trilogy remake, Retro could only have enough people to work on Prime 1 Remastered while the rest were working with Prime 4. So the idea appears to be that Retro would finish up with the first Prime Remaster and Nintendo would outsource Prime 2 and 3 to one or two other studios using Prime 1 Remaster as the establishment in visuals and style for them to emulate.

It's not so much a leak as it's more what the guy heard what happened with Retro, NoJ and Namco regarding Prime Trilogy Remake and Metroid Prime 4 with a bit of his own speculation near the end(like thinking it will be full price when this turned out not to be the case), but that said, it does provide a base on what Retro had possibly been doing since Tropical Freeze. In a summary, Tropical Freeze -> Project that got cancelled -> Metroid Prime Trilogy Remake -> Metroid Prime 4 and only enough to focus on remastering Metroid Prime 1.
