About Geno, if I may, I asked a question in my initial, recent post about him that was not answered. Thing is, I may have needed to word it better, but...

Does anyone think Geno may have more of a chance in getting into Smash 6 as DLC rather than base game?
Hard to say since there's no telling what Square will do next game, but I kinda doubt it? Admittedly it's more based on vibes, but as a Mario adjacent character, Geno just feels more like a base game addition imo and I would think Square would rather have a big name in the DLC like 2B instead of someone like Geno.

On everything, yeah, I know.

Thanks for answering, though. That said, if he was in the base game of Ultimate as a Spirit, I'd say he could get in base game of next Smash Bros. as a playable. I feel there are some differences between Ultimate and Smash 6, though, not sure what.
Ultimate: Spirits and World of Light
Smash 4: Smash Run for 3DS and Smash Board for Wii U with Mii fighters as the new edition
Brawl: Subspace Emissary with Tabuu
That does question what Smash 6 will offer. Though, we don't know when Sakurai has started development prior and during his Creating Games series.

If Spyro becomes a fighter instead of Crash Bandicoot, should his root moveset be from his Classic Trilogy or Legend of Spyro series?

Probably both. The Legend series would probably do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to his normals since it's more combat oriented, but his specials would more than likely be based on the OG trilogy.

Personally, I'd go with the classic trilogy myself. I just thought I'd be funny.
I'd probably go with what AreJay25 AreJay25 said and do both with an emphasis on the classic trilogy, but yeah. Great minds think alike.

And his Skylanders abilities are just his classic abilities but with flight instead of gliding due to the lack of verticality anyway.

I highly doubt the fact that Captain Toad having his own game would put him above Waluigi. It was a game released for the Wii U and it wasn't enough to get him in Ultimate, so why consider that one game now?
Because it's still more than Waluigi's no game at all.

If any variant of Toad got in now, I think it would just be normal Toad.
If any variant of Toad got in, their moveset would be an amalgamation of all Toad appearances. Including Captain Toad/Toadette.

How much are people still talking about and playing Treasure Tracker?
How many people were still talking about ARMS or XBC2?

I mean it is self explanatory because, what impact did Captain Toad Treasure Tracker have in terms of sales, in terms of staying power, player base, acclaim, popularity etc. to say that 'yes Captain Toad had that one hit game, we should put him in Smash'?
All I said was that it put him ahead of Waluigi.

Toad has all the same relevance points as Waluigi, plus being playable in mainline Mario games, and a game of his own.

Listen, if you really want to believe that Treasure Tracker was that big of a deal, you are free to do so.
A bigger deal than Waluigi's nonexistent game.

Why are there only five tracks?
Cause Punch-Out only has, like, 5 songs? NES and SNES have maybe 2 songs each, and Wii just has 20 remixes of the NES songs.

Questioning my existence while asleep
I'm curious what people think of Arle Nadja's chances. She was pretty popular during Ultimate's DLC i believe.

From what I understand, she was a popular vote in Japan for the Ballot yet got absolutely no acknowledgement in Ultimate whatsoever, even when Sega got more representation. So who knows.

I think it could go either way. I've probably said this plenty of times before, but I'd love to see Arle get in with her own stage and music from the Puyo Puyo series, especially Arle's Theme and Final of Puyo Puyo.

Everything depends on when the roster was decided for the next game.

If the project Sakurai talked about is Smash, Geno's chances are dead in the water until DLC.
If it's not Smash and the next Smash's project is post-remake, then his odds are better for base.
DLC seems like a better deal for Geno anyway. Seeing how Square has a tendency to do this ever since Cloud in Smash 4, I say this is the most likely outcome anyway. He's not one of their most famous characters, not comparable to Cloud, Sephiroth or Hero in the slightest. Might as well try and get something more out of it.

I don't think it'll happen cause third party vocalist and all but I'd kill for music from Sonic Frontiers that boss music is hype as ****.
Was there a rule that we can’t get third party music with lyrics or something? Didn’t we got a few other Sonic songs already with lyrics?

Nonetheless I feel it would be quite disappointing if we can’t get some of those songs from Frontier. They are a bit too iconic to be missing. And there is a pattern of we always getting Sonic music from the most recent 3D Sonic game in each smash game.

Something like Undefeatable should be the bare minimum we get at least from Frontier.

Short girl, orange hair, does hard drugs...
Does hard drugs? 😅 So I googled this character and to my surprise a cutesy anime character, who would've thought this ? Japan voted this character massively after all. But what is even this lol

Dunno how far back you need to go to find people talking about this, but in her first appearances (before Puyo Puyo), her mana for spells were refiled with alcohol, with drugs being a less common (but I think "better") item that does the same thing.

You'd have to ask the Arle fans to find out more though. My explanation isn't complete.

At the same time though, if you're Square Enix looking at DLC options, why wouldn't you wanna go with a bigger name that more people are likely to buy as a paid DLC? Namely 2B since Nier Automata has been everywhere, including in crossovers like Soul Calibur 6 and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, and Yoko Taro has gone on record saying he'll do anything for money lmao

Jokes aside - how do I feel about Arle's chances? Not bad, really. I still think everything that I argued in Arle's favor back then is true - Puyo Puyo is one of the most historically significant and successful Japanese IP absent from the game. It literally has larger brand recognition and marketability than Sonic the Hedgehog in Japan. Puyo Puyo Tsuu is a staple of Japanese arcades on par with Street Fighter II, the series was so big in the 90s that they were going to build an amusement park. I'm not even kidding.

Its history with Nintendo is strong too. Despite being tied so closely with Sega, it did see ports on just about every major Nintendo console. And I mean like... every Nintendo console, I think Virtual Boy is the only one in Nintendo's history not to have a Puyo Puyo game on it. Not to mention Nintendo's own ventures into the cutesy, competitive puzzle game world with Panel de Pon and, yes, their own reskin of Puyo Puyo with Kirby.

Arle has every credential in the world to be in Smash. But with Nintendo and Smash alike focusing more on a worldwide / western demographic, I do have my concerns about whether or not Puyo Puyo is the first thing on their mind given its skewed (albeit massive) eastern notoriety. Sega has been citing their major pillars as Sonic, Yakuza and Persona despite Puyo Puyo being, at least on paper, bigger than all but one of them (and even that is arguable, regionally speaking). The series is in a sort of limbo right now with its last venture being Apple Arcade exclusive, and the previous two major series entries being Tetris crossovers. Where do we go from here? On the bright side though, at least Puyo has made a habit of localizing each release. Puyo Tetris 2 had a simultaneous global release and the Apple Arcade game was even developed by Sega of America and written first in English, believe it or not.

I think Arle has some competition. If more than one Sega character is a concern, I do think someone else from Sonic is the prevailing candidate right now. And DLC wise, I think Arle slots in nicely as a Terry-esque historical pick to school some uninformed Smash fans on. But all the same, Yakuza has been growing exponentially and if there is an opportunity to add it I think it could take priority. I feel like Puyo and Yakuza have somewhat equivalent merit measured in different units, and personally I'd love to see them both make the cut, but I do also consider it Arle's strongest competition.

Bottom line, I'm feeling okay about her odds. Not spectacular, but she's still in the back of my mind as a character who could and should be on the radar. And really, Puyo Puyo is just such a natural fit for Smash Bros that I'm baffled it doesn't have even a spirit to its name. I'm sure that one way or another, it will see some recognition next game or else something is seriously wrong.

And look, if we can get Master Chief, then we can throw Japan a bone and given them Arle. But by Japan I mostly mean me.

Does hard drugs? 😅 So I googled this character and to my surprise a cutesy anime character, who would've thought this ? Japan voted this character massively after all. But what is even this lol
I was making a joke pretending not to know her, she's the character in my icon and my most wanted third party addition. She's the main character of perhaps the most influential puzzle game series in the world after Tetris.

OK, here's a question…

How would you guys feel if Kasumi from Dead or Alive made it into Smash?

Honestly, I think she'd be an interesting choice for a traditional fighting game rep, and it'd be pretty cool to hear some music from the DOA series in Smash, especially new remixes of Hitohira (Reminiscent of Ketsui no Toki) and Tehu Tehu.

Now, before you do the "good boys and girls" joke, just know that Kasumi in her OG design is more covered up than Mai Shiranui in her OG design.

I think this actually makes him a better fit for the base game; in addition to what Poppy said, base seems to be a natural fit for popular but inherently niche characters like Geno that cater more to the home crowd.

I could see something like Geno being base while a more "mainstream" Square rep like 2B gets in as DLC to maximize DLCbux from outsiders.

wrt Punch Out, one thing to note is that other smaller series like Mother, KI, and FZero have quite a bit relative to their size, making Punch Out's stuff seem smaller. In addition to the East vs. West stuff mentioned before. I adore all four series, but I also think we're very fortunate to have what we have from them and it's important to keep that in perspective. That said, something like a Punch Out AT seems like a relatively small bone to throw.

Hold on lemme look something up

...

Yeah okay sure she'd be cool why not (do people know what Dead or Alive even is? I never hear about it anymore)

As an aside, I feel like Mai's CotW design is a decent way for her to get around the Good Boys and Girls clause

Yeah quite a good argument actually. I just don't know. Geno has indeed been suggested for a while, similarly to quite a few characters who made it in already. And he was actually sort of considered before.

Still a little doubtful. Same with Waluigi actually.
