What do you all think of the newcomers? What if the characters listed below are the only newcomers? Will you be happy or angry if that's the case?

Confirmed: Pac-Man, Palutena, Mii Fighters, Greninja, Little Mac, Rosalina & Luma, Villager, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer
Rumored: Shulk, Chorus Men, Chrom

Character announcements are usually exciting, but my friends have NOT been thrilled by the new character announcements thus far, and nor are they happy about the rumored characters. They hate the idea of Pac-Man being playable. I'm not entirely sure why they're so against him, to be honest, something about him not being relevant, or not someone they wanted to play as. Regarding Rosalina and Palutena, most of them are like, "We asked for them?" Fortunately they are at least happy with Greninja and Mega Man...

When I ask them what characters they would have liked to have seen revealed instead, they don't really have much to suggest, besides impossible request such as Goku, so I'm stumped here. And if I suggest Ridley, they don't want him either... Have any of you noticed this with your friends?

Personally I quite like the newcomers as far. My favorite announced character as far would have to be Palutena or Little Mac. My most wanted character that is rumored would have to be Shulk, and dream character... Ridley.

I'd be fine if the Gemetsu Leak revealed the last newcomers. Although I do not expect that to be the case and I certainly support others.

My favorite newcomers are Villager and Pac-Man.

Personally I think all of the newcomers are awesome even the mii character which I hated the idea before they were announced. Every newcomer so far announced bring something new to smash which is awesome as previous game had some clones.

Personally I love all the confirmed newcomers and the rumored ones. I even love the ones that I was completely against. Rosalina, for example, I hated the idea of her being in smash but now I'm planning on maining her.

Woops, I voted for Villager not even thinking Shulk would be an option...

My vote would go to Shulk with Villager as second.

I'm not hugely happy with these newcomers overall, too much "blah whatever" going on. If they added Isaac as a newcomer and Mewtwo came back as a veteran I'd be a lot happier.

I like/love the majority of the characters up to now, but only a couple of them are ones that I wanted to be in from the get-go (Palutena, and a different Pokemon.) And Mega Man was an unexpected surprise.

Like everyone else, I'm still banking on more newcomers that aren't apart of the Gematsu leak. Especially the likes of Ridley and King K. Rool.

Honestly, I am not entirely fond of the choices. Chrom and Little Mac are the only characters that I am interested in. I was interested in Rosalina expecting her to be a true marionette character; however, she does not appear to be what I desired. Greninja is also a great choice that my sister intends on stealing, therefore I cannot be as invested in his inclusion. I have to actually convince myself that the choices are adequate. For instance, in the case of Villager, I just keep telling myself that he is a sadistic murder that hustled his way into becoming a Mayor. I keep telling myself that my Johnny Cage Mii will be the best. I keep telling myself that Pac-Man/Mega Man are legendary. It has worked thus far. But I do not like the choices, per se. I tolerate them.

Mega Man is definitely my favorite. As far as newcomers go I'm fairly neutral because I don't really have any character that I really want in the game. That being said I'm not too fond of Rosalina being in the game as I feel she is being forced into games (mk8, smash, sm3dw) when I feel her appearance should have just ended with Galaxy 2. Although her moveset does look cool :b:

I have watched every single newcomer trailer.

And Pac Man is the only character who I was instantly attracted to. The other newcomers are awesome, but Pac Man was the only one who I really wanted to play as once I saw gameplay.

I'd rather have K. Rool and Ridley over Chrom and the Chorus Kids. Besides, the Chorus Kids look way more like Assist Trophy material for my tastes.

I personally have been happy with all of the newcomers, with the possible exception of WFT who I am warming up to. Of course I am hoping for more, but any game that adds Megaman and Pacman to the roster has a lot going for it.

Darn, I was expecting more people would actually notice my defiant post. :c

In truth, I was very surprised and VERY happy to see Pac-Man get into Super Smash Bros. 4. I was always a big fan of the early arcade games, and the Pac-Man World series is one of my most treasured platforming series.

I like the newcomers we've gotten, it's just that we didn't get that many heavy hitters.

Brawl had Meta Knight, Dedede, Pokemon Trainer, Lucario, Wario, Diddy Kong... You get the point. It can't be helped. We are reaching the bottom of the newcomer pool after all.

My girl::rosalina:

Because Space Queens are best.

I also find her complex playstyle really interesting/appealing.

Honorable Mention:
:4palutena:

Because Light Goddesses are pretty cool too.

I find the fact that she seems to be a "zoning" character very appealing as well.

Its pretty difficult to say which newcomers are my faves since I liked the majority of them. But if I have to choose, then I would pick Greninja, Little Mac, Megaman and Palutena at the moment.

I've liked all of them so far. They've even made the Mii's look exciting. Stoked for Rosalina and Palutena. I can't wait to do a Goddess fight between the two.

I bet Greninja will be Super Smash Bros. 4`s "R.O.B.", in that it`s an awkward character that nobody expected, but is popular to play as.

Well, Greninja's reveal pretty much surprised me since it was something out of the blue. But nonetheless, I'm still happy with what I have seen so far based on the gameplay vids.

Was having issues picking between Greninja and Mac. I picked Greninja because I like Pokemon a little more than Punch Out, and I'll be maining both anyway.

Since so few veterans retain any of the ways they play, I am disappointing at so many returning. I am all about jumping into the next game with my previous mains and controlling an improved and higher resolution version of them, but sadly, this is never the case for Smash.

I'm disappointed because almost all the Newcomers are from the past 10 years, or are old characters that Nintendo brought back after decades.

It just feels like the roster is marketing driven this time.

If he really cared about the fans, wouldn't he put in at least ONE of K. Rool and Ridley? Those two have been in the top 3 of the most wanted Newcomers in the West since Smash 4 was announced.

It's like he threw us Little Mac as a bone, while adding just abut every Newcomer heavily requested by the Japanese fan base.

Megaman and Little Mac were my two most wanted newcomers, so anyone after them to me is a bonus. I'm already quite happy with the additions to the roster.

While I like all the newcomers, I still reserve judgement on Palutena's execution. She seems a bit too overpowered, and she steals to uniqueness of the Mii's customizable movesets.

We shall see, Lady Palutena.

As much as I've been finding most of these newcomers ones I've been acquainted with before in some form or another, I would have rather wanted to see Dixie, Toad, K.Rool, Ridley, Isaac, Takamaru, Lip, Mewtwo, Roy, Tingle... you know, all the folks we all speculated on majorly, and as of now only three (Little Mac, Palutena and Mega Man, I guess Shulk + Chrom) got to be in. Rest are up in arms with controversities through defending Sakurai's genius, dealing with losses and tolerating/jumping to the support because well, they made through the cut. Never the less, I might keep on feeling there could have been more characters the fanbase would have loved as much as the newcomers Sakurai putted on creativity about. Or heck, even more than what we're getting. (Who ever wanted Wii Fit Trainer? But that's a pointless question, she's there because well... Wii Fit sold millions? She had moveset potential? Or mostly because Sakurai always proves us that he can Captain Falcon up any newcomer he sees fit to Smash while proving the fanbase that Smash will never stop staying fresh and full of hype, disappointment partial bliss and speculation on them. )

Frankly, I might have to admit gonna like Brawl-roster more than the current line-up we're getting (3rd parties withstanding) - I know we got folks like Mac, Palutena, Rockyman and maybe soon Chrom and Shulk, but I'm only seeing that what fanbase wants is becoming more and more of what Sakurai either keeps in reserve, or doesn't find ideal. (he finds something better or more interesting to his plans.). No matter what though, it's never gonna come back to him because Smash will sell nonetheless, and people opposing his inclusions get trash-talked to oblivion, called greedy and whiny fanboys who waste their time self-fulfilling themselves through character inclusions. Sounds quite right most of the time, but I dunno how long I can keep on skimming through something I have to get along with because Sakurai, not by my experiences and liking/affinity with a character. SSB4's doing this at the moment a plenty, with such characters as Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina and Greninja (As much as I had Froakie being a starter). I wanted Dixie and K.Rool join so I can have a DKC-brawler. I wanted Ridley to be here so Samus can finally take on him, whether in serious or funny settings. I wanted the most first and perhaps most deepest Legendary PKMN appear again. I want those C-list games with big fanbases join with the other ones despite the games not selling well - and we'd see something new to dwell to, something curiosity-filled for the casual audince. In general, more believable gatherings! Not this "look who I made into a fighter now"-nonsense.

Not to mention, some things still keep on not changing despite supporters and the fandom wanting to believe otherwise. For example Assists are still only there to be forgotten by the community because frankly, they're disconfirmations in item form, and items. Big emphasis on ITEMS.
I wish we could summon them ala Mahvel, because it'll make them feel more of their own individuals than just some Pokemon-knockoffs. (They'd actually assist you by will instead of being forced to). And as much as I'm finding Mac's inclusion feel natural and justified, I find it so ironic that once Little Mac became a fighter, his way more remembered than he ever was as an Assist Trophy (the only things he got was "SAKURAAAI"s or just the Punch-Out-fandom going on their ways without caring he's there.)
That already tells me how truly forgettable and unsignificant ATs are, reducing them merely to just be the potential fighters (most of them) with just short sticks left on their hands. And what's worse than they get next to nothing redeemable in return. I wish they'd feel like All Stars too, not just "assorted goodies with nuts".

On the flipside I'm glad we're getting more individuality and more well-known characters this time as ATs, but at this point, it saddens me how many of my wanted characters have fallen in to be just forgotten and only thing we can say about them is just "missed potential". And SSB4's about to turn that with it's roster choices. I applaud it's creativity with the roster (and some franchises getting love), but it baffles me how adamant Sakurai stays with his roster choices, keeping on Ridley being a boss just to make his fanbase and support go on bigger, make Toad feel insignificant tool as a meatshield, and limit memorable characters such as Isaac, Midna and Lyndis to Assist Trophy-status.

As of late it's become easy to look down upon those who keep yearning for the newcomers not making the cut, but at the same time, the more I look at the missed newcomers, the more I wonder does this feel like a gathering of All-Stars rather than "recent, popular, director's pets and occassional fan-favourites."

I'm though believing I've viewed the series in a wrong light at this point due getting blinded by Brawl's roster and hoping it'll just get better from there with just some of those newcomers left that are missing to improve on already great roster of recognizable and all quirky fighters of different backgrounds. Anyone can be a fighter in Smash, which forces me to leave that dream behind and just enjoy the spectacles of great creativity Sakurai brings with the newcomers he chooses (whether I like them or not).

I might come off as quite self-entitled but at the end, I wouldn't be as passionate about this phenomenal series anymore. Nevertheless,I wish we would have had more believable gathering of best of the best like in Brawl, instead of "Look who we made "playable" + whoever's playable is who Sakurai, the fanbase, and thus Nintendo cares about now the most, is most unique of all, and deserves to be left in history" - leading to all this debate, whining and speculation.
Just my two cents.

This batch of new comers has not wowed me the way that brawl did, and there are so many excellent characters they could of included. They seem to just be adding characters from the games they are trying to sell. Lets face it, by a character appearing in smash they gain so much recignition and their respective game sales skyrocket.

Pac man- probably the best inclusion so far. a legend.

Palutena- dont really like, seems like a way to make more kid icarus games.

Mii fighters-- not really fond of.

Greninja- Ok but would rather had mewtwo , the pokemon people probably convinced sakurai to put in the game.

Little Mac- Generic boxer to me, not very interesting at all.

Rosalina- seems interesting, but shouldnt really be ahead the more notable mario characters like toad.

Villager- looks good very interesting moves could be very unique

Mega Man- decent but would have rather of seen different 3rd party characters like earthworm jim or banjo kazooie, Would even rather see another sonic character like tails or knuckles.

Wii Fit Trainer- Worst character so far.

I think Brawl spoiled us with such a huge amount of newcomers. There's no way it's happening again, so they've made the correct decision by diversifying and focusing on franchises previously unrepresented. If all that jazz is true about Gematsu, 3/4 are from a new game series that hasn't had a fighter before. And I think that's great.

My vote was a tossup between Megaman, Pacman, Little Mac and Villager. Ultimately, I gotta go Megaman. I mean, c'mon, he's just the greatest. And I might not even play him all that much.

Anyways, I'm really disappointed on the characters who are coming in, not the amount of them.

I don't want to be rude, I really don't, so I won't use the analogy I was going to use, but honestly I'm excited about all the newcomers. All of them. Basically any non-Gematsu characters are simply icing on the cake for me.

I haven't been too in love with the newcomers, but I never expected to be. Truth is, my absolute favourite characters are staples in the SSB series and will (hopefully) never leave (Fox McCloud and Ness), so I will never be more than happy about a newcomer's inclusion.

That being said, I am ecstatic for their fans. I was pretty happy to see such wanted characters like Pac Man join the game, because I know his fans behind him would be just losing their minds, and I share those feeling for my favourite characters.

Was expecting this...

Let me try:

Frankly, I keep thinking that SSB-series is about to lose what sparked my love for it a the first place: the playground for match-testing and putting my beloved Nintendo-characters take on each other, as well as an amazing gathering of them all together. Particularly those who I'm familiar with and been acquainted with before SSB, and after SSB because I found them cool in their original games, and are well-established representatives of those franchises. (For example. the Core 4s, like SMB's Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad, DKC's DK, Diddy, Dixie and Cranky Kong. Or KDL's Kirby, Meta-Knight, King Dedede and now Bandana Dee. )
Likewise, Pokemon's most beloved, Pikachu, Charizard, Mewtwo, Lucario, etc. Also the two significant characters from some series, like Samus and Ridley. You get me?) And then the characters out there that you've never seen before, but have history that's well-hidden, but that seems kinda covered in this installment (Shulk? Little Mac? I dunno.)

What I don't like now is that at the moment, it's about whoever is chosen as a fighter for certain reasons or just merely because Sakurai felt interested on being creative with them. Like, who wanted Wii Fit Trainer? Are we forced to like her now or respect more than some characters we were acquainted with in the past from our childhood because Sakurai made her a fighter?) and gets to bask in the beautiful spotlight of recognition, usually new-found popularity, and "tears of fanboys" because they took away another opportunity for more fun and relatable match-up or gathering of characters you wanted to take on each other but only could do so in Smash Bros (such as K.Rool VS Bowser, Toad VS Bowser Jr. or Bandana Dee, Ridley VS Mewtwo, etc.). All while Sakurai's crowned as an eternal genius for just the characters he's including, no matter how absurd, and ABUNDANT, they can get.

Lastly, those who're left in the sidelines are always gonna stay inferior to the ones playable, to the point that they feel waste of breath and code in the game because they don't hold any significance to the fanbase community except bitter feels or plain uninterest. They're nothing more worth than a mere virtual dog or angry mole yapping at you for 3 minutes straight. But that's charm of Smash Bros for you. They're nothing mere than pseudo-summons that are forced to help you rather than help you because you want them to. There's no way you can touch on them with as much beloved affinity as with playable characters because frankly, they're tools with A.I that resemble their more remembered selves from the games they're from, usually with as sweet, or even sweeter memories than some of the fighters in the roster you see.

I might sound self-entitled, but I at least told my reasoning for why I feel all this.

(And I'll never be able to relate at so-cloney "Toon Link" with as much fondness as I have at "Hero of Winds" from my childhood. Ever. )
