Cloud is a Sony character. Having him in the game is about as absurd as having Master Chief or Spyro or Goku or Crash or Jesus XIII in the game. Feel free to trade Simon for Richter if you want. And Banjo-Kazooie was from a passable N64 game. They don’t need to be remembered.

Oh, also I’m here because I wasn’t sure where else to air these suggestions. I thought I’d look up to see what the top ten most requested new characters were, because I wasn’t coming up with any, and was seeing if I could find a good list that deconfirmed my belief that smash has enough characters already. Since for the most part I haven’t found that yet, I’m bringing up my thoughts here among people who seem interested in the Smash series.

Since I’ve already dabbled in the suggestion arena by bringing up my 2015 suggestions, what do y’all think about Detective Pikachu as an echo fighter for Pikachu?
Cloud isn't a 'Sony' character, he is a Square-Enix character and is the most popular character for that company, in Final Fantasy, and the most iconic RPG character ever. Yes, his game has been Sony exclusive thus far, but Cloud has appeared on Nintendo systems with Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, both Theatrhythm Final Fantasy games, and Final Fantasy Explorers. As was said, he's also from Final Fantasy, an important series for Nintendo, and the most popular character for his series and thus he is representing it. Sakurai mentioned considering Terra from VI or Bartz from V due to their games being on Nintendo systems, but chose Cloud due to him being the most requested, popular, and well known. Terra & Bartz are not as well known. Even I, someone that loves Terra, has to concede that he made the right call.

Banjo-Kazooie is more then a 'passable' game and far from not needing to be remembered, it was one of the most popular games on the N64, right there alongside Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, and GoldenEye.

As was said, your views are so narrow and subjective that no characters would meet your approval unless they were the most popular characters from the most well known games and had close ties to Nintendo..and even then you'd cherry pick who was 'worthy and we'd ironically end up with a boring, forgettable roster. Fans like to see characters they didn't expect or know, they like seeing their favorite but lesser known characters announced. That is what makes each announcement worthy of hype. It wouldn't be exciting if it were just the popular kids.

>Daisy is iconic enough to deserve a spot but not Cloud or Simon Belmont

How is Daisy more deserving of a spot than Cloud? You seem pretty new to this whole speculation thing that the Smash speculation community would have lost its' metaphorical and also probably literal **** if you told them Cloud Strife would be in Smash. If Daisy is an A-Lister then Cloud is an SSS-Lister.
Daisy has been a popular request since melee.

Yes, but it doesn't make her more iconic then Cloud or Simon Belmont was their point. They were claiming she was.
Cloud technically wasn't even on a Nintendo platform as far as I know, just his series.

Anyone want Spyro 1 for New 3DS, and Crash Bandicoot 2 for the 3DS

It's against the website policy for me to say.
Why would website policy stop you? Unless you are alluding to what I think you are alluding to... If which, that is not something he is iconic for in the Pokemon fandom, and that is a gross generalization of the Pokemon fandom.

Red XIII is more iconic in terms of popularity among Pokemon fans if you seriously wanna argue that point.
That literally makes no sense.
I'm a Pokémon fan..but my fav in VII is Tifa.
I'll assume you meant something inappropriate..

I'm a Pokémon fan, and have been one since it first came out, pretty much.

I have no idea what Red XIII is.

To move along, I am curious regarding predicting future Nintendo Directs. Do we have 1 Smash focused one and maybe a general direct that has a Smash segment?

Mod Edit: Image removed. Remember that trying to bait others and to farm likes is not encouraged.

Anyway, let us discuss that top 10 a couple pages back, because it is interesting and we barley talked about it.
Out of the top ten most popular on SSB4Dojo's data that haven't been added or deconfirmed, we have:
1. Isaac
2. Banjo
3. Bandana Dee
4. Paper Mario
5. Shantae
6. Geno
7. Magolor
8. Dixie
9. Wonder Red
10. Rayman

If we are going by popularity we can assume the final few are going to be in this list if it's as accurate as it has been so far.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Th4pdsrzs-6X303PPpw5m-b4JHJ0_cGRKU15KYlTe1E

This is the list. I only updated the colors on who has been confirmed and who has been deconfirmed.
Most of these i see as possible picks, though some will naturally beat out the other. For instance I don't think Magolor will get in because Bandanna Dee seems like the logical next choice. If there are any characters who really benefit to this long requested fan service approach to the roster, it's Issac, Banjo, and Geno. All three have been long requested, though I see Banjo as least likely just because of the unknown factor in Microsoft. I think Shantae's chances were raised by SK being assisted, proving that indies can get in the game in any gameplay form as well as ridding her biggest rival. She also benefits from her long history with Nintendo, fitting in a bit more than SK when it comes to older fan pleasers.

I don’t know about Shantae. Shovel Knight more popular than she is and he’s an assist. It feels like Nintendo recognizes their popularity but doesn’t think of them as all stars. I think she has a chance but I don’t think she would be prioritized over characters like Isaac, Banjo, Geno, and Bandana Dee. Just a gut feeling.

I too would probably see Bandana Dee over Magolor especially with BD's popularity in Japan.

Shantae is an interesting one too since she has been around for awhile and has a steady flow of games. I could possibly see her as DLC if there will be any in the future.

Wonder Red .... hmmmm. Chances are slim to me.

Shantae is more popular in Japan and I don't think her being a little less popular than SK puts her down. Heck, she could have gotten more votes than we know, considering how far Wayforward went with campaigning her. I heard they even sent emails to all of the backers of Half Genie Hero asking them with there support, along with them making a concept of all the possible Shantae alternates, showcased on a kickstarter update no less!

Does this mean she will get in? No. But I think the team is entirely looking at what will make the fans happy, and that gives Shantae something. She is certainly in a better spot than before the last direct.

Shantae is more popular than Shovel Knight in Japan, Shovel Knight didn't do nearly as well in Japan as in America & Europe, so it's possible she'd be chosen instead..its hard to say when it comes to Sakurai.

That said, I don't think we'll get any new series fighters, Sakurai sounded pretty definitive about the number of stages for the base game and I doubt a new series would arrive without a stage, so Geno makes sense as the only 3rd Party candidate since he's a Mario character as well and can thus share those stages.

I disagree but I’m sure you already know what I would say so I won’t bother.

As for stages, based on the stage screen shot, it appears there is room for 6 stages to fill the grid completely. This does not mean he will do that, but it shows there is space for it.

It is possible for new series characters, or same series characters bringing in a stage. Possible, at least visually on the stage screen at least.

I know, just my gut feeling since he didn't say roughly but gave an exact number.
I'd be happy to be incorrect, but I think the spaces are being saved for DLC stages.

I don't actually. Did you disagree about Shovel Knight's popularity in Japan or the stage number being base's final?
Stage number

I don’t think it’s DLC. The stage tab says normal which insinuates that DLC will be in a separate tab like ssb4 was

Idk, something about the stage number thing rubs me the wrong way. Just say this aloud, "Sakurai is fine adding only 4 new stages." With all the work Sakurai puts into everything, even if he brought back so many stages, I feel like his workaholic tendencies would not allow this for himself. It's a weird perspective, but Sakurai always does more than we expect and/or need.

Yeah, like I said, the only reason I think it's possible it is because usually when Sakurai gives an exact number, it's definitive, look at Smash 3DS/Wii U. Some of us also thought the empty spaces on the ESRB 3DS Character Select leak meant more were possibly in the game too..I'm just setting my expectations here for now. Like I said, I'd love to be wrong.
The only way I see new stages currently is if a new series character shows up, like Isaac, Banjo, Sora, Shantae, or Steve.

Hey guys, so I doing some thinking as to why Sakurai has decided not to leave any secret characters in the game this time around (as in, everyone will be revealed before launch). I think this is almost certainly to avoid another ESRB type leak where people who got copies early have a chance to spoil it for everyone else.

Smash 3DS launched on October 3rd, and the ESRB leak took off on August 19. If this timeline is anything to go by, I have a feeling we’ll know the roster by the end of October. I know that isn’t exactly a shocker, but it could mean we get a relatively steady stream of news in the next two months.

What do you think?

I think that is exactly what he is doing, and he has plenty of opportunitys to do reveals, even if it's minor.

Honestly, part of the reason is probably because the special edition box has the character mural on it and they may not want to put an incomplete version on it to keep the secret characters secret.

I was thinking that too. Both Brawl and 3DS/Wii U had their rosters leaked before release. Broken street date for Brawl, ESRB for 3DS.

The most interesting read to date

https://smashboards.com/threads/news-how-fans-brought-back-k-rool.457451/#post-22305163

It's basicly how k rool got in

This basicly proves everything about the costumes and the ballot

Constellation prize costumes and the choices are focused from the ballot

Ashley, takamaru and knuckles probably just had some complications of being playable in smash
To be fair, characters like Knuckles and Zero still technically got upgrades from their previous role. So it's still possible they got decent demand, just not nearly enough to be considered over others that got way more. Maybe Knuckles was just beaten out by either Tails and/or Shadow in the ballot for example.

No secret characters is also due to less characters period. When you have like 15 newcomers, it's easy to lock a few behind unlocks. When you have half of that, it kills your marketing to not be able to show off as many as possible.

I have to say, the final base Super Smash Bros Ultimate Direct will have an epic ending..I can't help but think it'll be like Smash 4's Direct where they'll have a character montage..but this one will be of every single character in order of appearance (minus Echoes, who'll be after their base characters) from Mario to the Final Newcomer.

I imagine it starting with the characters being added to the artwork, then the image glows and shakes, cue character montage, then it ends with the image again and those magical words Everyone Is Here....however, I could also see it then having a question mark and silhouettes of characters like Rex & Pyra with DLC Is Coming placed over it.

So I was tweaking some fanart I was working on for a character I want in Smash when I realized just how many antagonists we have now.

I'm hoping that once Smash Ultimate comes out, someone or me will recreate this shot from Dissidia Final Fantasy unveiling all the villains.

Cool. Though, how much a villain is Mewtwo. It seems to vary. Though I will say, on his best days he still is kinda a blood knight. And that evil chuckle isn't doing him any favors. Still cool though and I am glad we have a lot more villains this time around. Is there any more villains do you think should be added besides your obvious support of Ganon?
