I've been wanting to host a large tournment that is funded by smash before hand. I would like to start a kickstart fund like skullgirls did,
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/keep-skullgirls-growing?c=activity

With goal like:paid for venue,set-ups, staff, reduced entance price to maybe the point of free to gain new smashers, with money pool rewards like shirts, stickers paid entance or maybe another card game thing with pemit of the fc crew.

I would wanta hold this in august at gencon and my main readon for the early post is what rewards/goals would I want and other details that might need to be noted.

I might hold this next year due to evo draining smashers in more than one way.

Thoughts?

The only way you'd get this to work is if you were a reputable TO who has hosted a lot of successful tournaments in the past. As it is, I wouldn't give you a cent.

I don't think bearsfan092 was trying to be rude, but its true.
Asking us to donate to you for a tournament, despite that we've never heard of you, or any tournaments run by you, is a little ambitious.
Alex Strife doesn't even ask for donations for Apex.

Ow my pride. Was ony asking for general thoughts.
Don't know why I get on smashboards
It IS a general thought. No one's going to give you money if you have no track history. Investors don't just hand out money to anyone. They need a verifiable record of excellence or an idea that is so great it's worth taking the plunge. Your idea isn't awesome enough on its own, and you don't have the reputation to back it up.

Don't perceive this as an insult just because we disagree with your idea.

Even if Alex Strife asked for donations we'd say that's what venue fee is for and if he wanted to expand he'd have to look into sponsors and other ways of marketing/monetizing the tournament. Skull Girls is donating to upgrade their game, not start a tournament and donating in order to reduce venue fee?

If you want to hold a tournament, start small. You're not taking on a national size tournament your first time around. Make a name for yourself, accumulate set ups and equipment, find a venue and then cover your costs with the venue fees.
