For a couple months now, we've gotten word about New Super Mario Bros. U, but apparently, this forum has been lacking a thread for the game. Therefore, I decided to make this thread for the sole purpose of discussing this upcoming Nintendo Wii U title.

Basically, discuss anything about New Super Mario Bros. U here.

☯ I don't know what to say but this made me very happy:

☯ I also noticed that you can get out of the bubble by yourself, which is a great addition.

Couldn't you get out of the bubble yourself in New Mario wii?

I don't remember, I thought you could

I'm also glad that the whole Koopa family (including Junior) are working altogether in a Mario game for once since NSMBWii.

Koopalings and Bowser are the only ones I care about. I've never been a fan of Jr.

Koopalings got more personality. Jr is basically baby bowser with an apron

I'd like Kamek in the game again though

☯ I'll be getting this game day one, I just wish I had a PVR to record my gameplay. )= ★

☯ I'm glad they didn't focus only on a mini game this time, that was a big flaw in NSMB2. ★

I think this is going to be much better than NSMB2, it has the return of many things not seen since Super Mario World, such as one single, yet large overworld map. the flying squirrel works like the cape from SMW as well... four player option returns which is a plus, and the art style used for the backgrounds of the levels is just great. hope there are good challenges as well.

seeing Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings together is one big plus as well. besides them, I hope they have different bosses like NSMB, such as Petey Piranha, Boom Boom or the Reznors. Ice Mario returns as well, great!

EDIT: seems that Boom Boom is back to the 2D platformers... I feel kinda outdated... -_-

EDIT 2: will there be DLC for this game, like NSMB2? wouldn't mind a few extra challenges, as long as the prices are reasonable...

Boom Boom was in a 3D platformer, not a 2D one. Unless he's been revealed for this game, which I haven't seen anything about it

I actually want the game itself to be challenging. :p

Anyways, do the Baby Yoshis actually grow or do they stay like that?

The new power ups seem interesting... Though it seems like there's always something to replace the one that allows you to fly LOL

I like that they added achievements. More challenges for the hardcore audience.

I like it when the devs make games with all kinds of difficulty levels, because then everyone can enjoy the game.

I really hope they can pull some challenging levels like World 9-7 in NSMBWii, because THAT was a real challenge!

of course, a few easy levels in the beginning to show the new power ups is good, too... like a warm up before the real thing. that's how I see things and how I'd make a game.

Though I've never been a fan of the NSMB series, but I do expect this game to change my mind on the view of the NSMB series with every level and extras. I hope I'm not wrong.

World 9-7 was brutal. Memories of me raging at that level still plague my mind. If levels are like that then im obviously picking up the game day one Hard Mario games are the best mario games.

I hardly think achievements are the answer for making something challenging. It's artificial challenge. Especially since they usually involve doing stupid things.

Though I suppose it depends on HOW you do it.

If they did something like awarding a gold medallion for reaching the level in X time limit or collecting all red coins it could be good. And If you get all gold medallions it does something.

But if it's like OTHER games where you get an achievement for dying or something stupid like throwing fireballs at buzzy beetles 100 times. No thank you.

☯ I kind of hope they will have a DLC overworld. The DLC packs from NSMB2 only exist for levels for Coin Rush. It's alright, but having a new world to play is even better. Since there is a big chance of a DLC happening for this game, that is one of a few wishes for this game is for a new overworld for DLC not just for Boost Rush mode. ★

I think my problem with New Super Mario Bros. is that they aren't as good as Super Mario Bros 3

I also think they need more powers. Much higher variety than choosing between flying variant or fire variant.

You haven't seen some of the achievements, have you?

Nintendo doesn't make achievements for the casual players, just so you know. They strive to satisfy the hardcore audience as well, meaning the achievements are meant to be challenging.

Disappointingly, the only new power up is the Flying Squirrel from what I've heard. However, with so many news on the different challenge modes, I'm curious about how difficult it is.

No I haven't seen the achievements.

All I know is achievements from games like World of Warcraft, Halo and various XBOX games, and some steam titles.

I don't know if/ what Nintendo does

I really hope they don't consider the baby yoshis as the only power-ups cause they're cool and all but they're not amazing.

I've been seeing more trailers here and there, and I can say this game is looking really good. It will definitely surpass NSMB Wii, with its new content. the stages look great aesthetically and also offer new features as well as old ones, with some of them not seen since Super Mario World.

I don't really like NSMB games. Wii one was fun enough but they are all just so...generic and samey. This one actually looks a LITTLE more interesting, visually, but these games feel more like romhacks or expansion packs than new Mario games. I remember back in the day when a Mario platformer was the biggest deal in the world. Now it feels like they are ****ting out as many NSMB games as fast as they can with minimal work.

Like I said though, this one is looking to be a little more substantial but I'd certainly hope so since it's a new console.

Basically, I'm not gonna get really excited until word of a new 3D Mario game comes up. That's where the real innovation seems to be now.

I liked original NSMB, because it rebooted the 2D platformers after the GBA remakes of classic ones. NSMBWii added multiplayer co-op, which is something that Miyamoto had wanted in the past, and provided new challenges (again, World 9, but Worlds 7 and 8 were no slouch either). NSMB2... forget it, I was disappointed. sure, coin collecting is all fun, but fits more of a Wario game and doesn't really add much replay value.

now, I have hopes for this one, since it revives many old elements from SMW...

I like the little art style things they added for NSMB2

But the games themselves are kind of bland

Meh, all 3 NSMB just did the following the things each time a new one was made:

-Different Graphics
-Different Power-Ups
- Different levels that aren't really hard (Except 9-7 that one gives me nightmares)

But hey, I may be wrong on this Wii U version and it could be an amazing game with hard levels.

First wrong thread to post this question, the current question belongs to the Wii U thread. But to answer your question, it really depends on your point of view of the Wii U right now. Look at some current gameplay videos, scout out some game stores that have the Wii U to play, look online for more info on the features the Wii U has, etc.

☯ So apparently all the world maps are named after food... this currently reminds of the Kirby maps. XD ★

☯ Well not a surprise but a nice amount of gameplay leaks are out, but get taken down the moment it hits youtube. XD ★

Didn't G4 get rid of all their video game stuff? Why would their opinion on a game matter?

I have to wait to get this game. I preordered my Wii-u but didn't preorder any games.

Just have Nintendo land

Yeah. I wonder if it's sold out. I'll find out today.

If it's not, I'll get it

Edit: My main problem is that without people to play the game with, it's going to get old fast.

I would have preferred a "Mario Galaxy-esque" title at launch
