Unlikely =/= impossible.

Impossible would be characters like Master Chief, Kratos (God of War), Goku, SpongeBob, etc. as Sakurai made it very clear that non-Nintendo characters have to have debuted in a video game and have been on a Nintendo console before.

Metal Sonic debuted on Sonic CD, a video game.
Metal Sonic has been in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Heroes, and various games in the Sonic Gems Collection, so he has been on a Nintendo console.
So he's elligible.

I mean, it's not like you can read their minds or anything.

EDIT: For all we know, they could find Mewtwo to be overrated and request Godzilla a far more ton than him.

I don't think it's much of a stretch to believe that casuals would want to see nostalgiamonster Mewtwo back in Smash over that guy with Red hair in Melee.

But you're right, I can't prove it, even if it's probably true. You seem to overestimate Roy, or seriously underestimate Mewtwo.

Let's hope Sakurai doesn't go that far... I cross the line at Toon Sheik. It should have been Tetra.

But I would have lulz when fans go into a collective nerd rage over Demise replacing Ganondorf, especially if Demise is the "decloned Ganondorf with a sword" fans had been begging for years.

I love every series in smash and but I wouldn't mind at all if Ganondorf got "replaced" by Demise with a usable sword. That would actually be huge step up to me! But yeah the fans would go mad, hahaha! Imagine if he could summon lightning like Pikachu but only in his sword? Then unleash it in an electrifying strike! That's already 10 times better than both Ganondorf incarnations we've had in smash so far.

I wonder if Ganondorf will simply just get a "Skyward Sword" make over like Shiek did in Brawl, or just be replaced by Demise? I'd rather him have a huge sword and the abilities of himself from other games as well as Demise.

Posting:

Scoring:

- For every UNLISTED character that is announced, the user loses one point.
- Characters included as part of movesets, stage elements, assist trophies, Pokeballs, Adventure Mode enemies, bosses, etc. will not affect scoring.
- Characters appearing as alternate costumes and palette swaps will not affect scoring.
- The series a character is associated with will not affect scoring.
- Scores will not be finalized until the full roster is determined. Current scores may be kept as soon as the game is officially revealed (as Brawl was during E3 2006).
- Characters listed as downloadable content will be counted as regular characters. Any characters revealed to be downloadable content will not affect scoring.

Individual:
- The following characters will be counted individually, regardless of implementation (this list may be expanded as needed):
Mario, Dr. Mario, Paper Mario, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Samus, Zero Suit Samus, Zelda, Sheik, Toon Zelda, Toon Sheik, Impa, Ganondorf, Ganon, Link, Wolf Link, Fierce Diety Link, Young Link, Toon Link, Pikachu, Pichu, Pokemon Trainer and any variations, Squirtle, Ivysaur, Charizard, any Pokemon accompanied by a Trainer, Mega Man and his countless variations
- The following characters will be counted as a single unit (this list may be expanded as needed):
Ice Climbers, Plusle and Minun, Wolf Link and Midna
- A change in a character's design (as with Zelda, Fox, Marth, etc.) will not affect scoring unless they are a separate character.

- The entire Brawl roster, if announced, is worth 40 points.

Prizes:
- First place: one Wii U title of average MSRP value (including shipping) or item of equal/lesser value

- Winners are required to contact Toise in order to redeem prizes. Winners outside of the United States may encounter difficulty in regards to shipping and billing, and may be unable to redeem digital prizes from Nintendo's stores.

Who's the one that Sakurai listens to, though?
Casuals, or those that actually make their voices heard?
And in Japan, Mewtwo and Roy are on equal footing, if not one leading while the other closely tailing behind, depending on where you look, as Chrono has found.

Japan is also where Sakurai hears the most voices, so it goes without saying that even though Mewtwo is leagues above Roy outside of Japan, what Sakurai will hear the most is the two as a tandem.

I think they should both get in smash 4. I would absolutely love to play as Demise if he gets in but I think Ghirahim has a slightly better chance of getting in.

I have a feeling we're gonna have a Brawl roster on our hands. A lot of the unlockables being vets >.> We'll probably know 2/3rds of the newcomers PRIOR to leaks.

Marth might as well become a starter at this point since he has been in the series since Melee.
They should use most of the unlockables for Newcomers.

50 slot roster, one being a random box, 54 characters. The exact number me and Toise BOTH have guessed 0.0

Mewtwo AND Zoroark SHOULD be unlockable...

I think it will be easier to guess who will be unlockable ONCE WE SEE THE CHARACTERS THEY SHOW OFF IN THE REVEAL TRAILER. That way, we have a feel for what the roster is looking like.

Whenever I have asked people they usually respond Toad or Bowser. Imagine how delighted they are when I tell them Bowser already is in the game.

I have. Its good but it didn't give me many great memories as Thousand Year Door.

Nah, The Thousand Year Door was okay, but the game play was ridiculously easy. Plus I think Super Mario RPG's game play was better. Still, The Thousand Year Door is an excellent game, and is hands down the best Paper Mario game.

geno is way overhyped. that's my issue with him. sure he's an interesting character, but not to the point that so many people ought to be foaming at the mouth over him.

Again, the hype originated from him being mentioned 3 times by Sakurai on the Brawl's original Japanese Dojo in his character discussion. Other characters mentioned 3 times were Toon Link, Ike, Ridley, Krystal, Takamaru; only Diddy Kong and King Dedede were mentioned more (both 4 times). That is where the Geno fan base's "hype" roots from. Honestly, this is the 3rd time I've said that today, and nobody seems to listen.

Edit: If Miis get in Smash, I'm going to have a Osama Bin Laden, Adolf Hitler, and Joseph Stalin team match against George Washington. Mr. Greatest President of America is gonna screw some smash hoes up if that happens! He will kick your butt on Christmas while you are asleep sons!

Sakurai will definitely hear the top half dozen to dozen or so most requested characters or so. It's after the top half dozen most popular characters where things get wild, wacky, and really really over the top in terms of fan base stuff.

I saw a very peculiar post on a Japanese site. There was someone that said he thought Metroid would definitely not get a newcomer in Smash 4, and someone responded to that post and said that Ridley is extremely popular overseas and he might get in just for that.

This Japanese smasher knows what's up. This guy deserves one big fat hug from a true SMASH BROTTTHHHAAAHHHH!!! (or sistah!)

Let's talk Megaman a little. As we know Megaman has over 80+ robot master themes (also including special stages and other stuff like that). What is the number one robot master tune you all want to be on the Megaman stage if he were in? Any one, from 1-10, and including Rockman and Forté.

Elect Man, then Cut Man, then any Robot Master from Mega Man 2 or 3 (or 1).

I really don't understand why people want Pichu back...

Because he was so bad people like him. Also, because I think he could be a great ultimate gamble character. Imagine a character that could kill quicker than Ganondorf but be killed by a mere Warlock Punch. That would be a pretty wacky character that I feel could add a lot to the series... if they weren't broken!

I actually did see one Japanese poster respond to someone asking for Pichu to return saying, "Pichu did not get cut. He just evolved into Brawl Pikachu, see the goggles and being able to wall jump. "

Brawl Pikachu's style is much more similar to Pichu's Melee play style than Pichu's from Smash 64 or Melee.

And they will come back... when Melee becomes available on Wii U Virtual Console.

That won't happen, because Nintendo wants people to buy the new smash bros games that will inevitably fail to live up to the greatness of Melee. That would be like FOX releasing the original Star Wars trilogy in theaters before any of the prequel films. Because quite frankly, people would horde to see the good crap instead of the bad crap.

Probably. I think that works better, actually. Let's be honest: All or nearly all of the characters who have been playable in at least 2 smash bros games will return.

On a side note, a great retro character should still definitely be hidden (like G&W in Melee or ROB in Brawl). That way we have to keep guessing. It would be awesome if said character was Dixie Kong or Little Mac.

Pretty much I agree nearly 100% with this. I also would throw in maybe some of the retro characters considered for Melee and Paletuna, but that's about it. Smash is (slowly) running out of relevant retro Nintendo-owned characters to choose (which partially explains the Geno phenomenon).
