pound 4 rules are pretty good

btw, for money matches where u do all neutrals, you should leave stadium on and do random with 1 stage resets

there's no real 'original rules'

unless you want to go back to when rainbow cruise was a starter stage or further back when onett was legal, etc

tournaments should always try to use the most updated rules!

That's a dumb reason.
the idea is that since its a mm, its more of a test to see whos better, for money. lets see who can win more times without having to resort to gay **** (e.g. corneria). you can argue a lot of things, like marth is only good on neutrals, but it doesnt really matter since there is no enforced ruleset for a mm. 2 people can do whatever they want. so if hey want to use tourney rules they will.

How is that different from tournament?

Of course 2 people can do whatever they agree to (this is true in tournaments also), I'm just questioning the reasoning for using that ruleset. "Because that's the tradition" is not a good reason.

iirc, some of the motivation comes from when you do MMs with fixed characters [ie my sheik vs your falco]
in the pre-pound 4 rulesets there were too many broke *** counterpicks, and with fixed characters they could take you tosome stage that ***** your character and you cant change it.

it seems mostly obsolete now

I think the pound 4 rules are fine.

The only complaint I want to make is that when all the 'gay' stages are removed (corneria, poke floats, etc) then your opponent can ban a reasonable counter pick.

For example, as a fox main, people used to always ban corneria, and I got to choose pokemon stadium, my favorite stage. But now everyone just bans pokemon stadium.

So anyway, I don't think the 'gay' stages are that good, but at least it forces players to ban them.

i found myself hating the Pound 4 ruleset when i was a fox main

now that i main marth, i'm all for it (the p4 ruleset)

often, mm's are decided with fixed characters. its kind of a way to gauge how good my 'x' is, if it can beat your 'y' straight up. i think neutrals only adds to this. like in tournament you could take me to a gay stage on a gay counterpick and i would have to work my *** off for a win, but thats stacking it in your favor. arbitrarily, lets see if my 'x' is better than your 'y' on the fairest of stages.

its arbitrary, but ego plays a big part in the community too. though a mm isn't as 'real' as tourney (for a multitude of reasons) it will still matter to everyone, including the 2 players, that sheridan's 'y' beat my 'x' straight up.
