I ditched UNM, and I found out that I can't host a fest either :(
I may or may not show up to a fest if someone else hosted. Still undecided as always.

One observation from that Brawl match. I legitimately haven't watched a Brawl match in years (let alone a tournament match where the players are nervous as ****), so I 'm going to make a sweeping generalization.
It seems like they're jumping a lot more than necessary. As I understand, their jumping is a response to items/long range attacks, but they equally have shield dashing as an optimal response (and as shown throughout the video, they're pretty good at it). Perhaps their jumping is a subconscious tendency out of their desire to footstool infinite.

tl;dr those brawl players need to literally stand their ground more
generalized tl;dr everybody in every fighting game ever needs to stand their ground more

Neil, it's because even if you shield the bananas, they trip you when they land, and it's slower to throw them after catching them on the ground. As you might have seen, getting hit by a banana isn't a good thing when your opponent can consistently infinite you off of it lol

Well, if people have the balls to attempt infinites in tournament matches, then they should also have enough balls to shield dash a banana (which stops the projectile's trajectory) then immediately jump, air catch the banana (even though it's a falling hitbox), and proceed to **** their opponent.

I'm probably entering the realm of "asking too much of a player" anyway.

The thing is, they could just jump and catch it without shielding it, so why shield in the first place?

There, am I an SF pro now?

EDIT: Walker, I imagine the only advantage to my method is gaining horizontal distance (at the sacrifice of it being more technical). It's hard to explain, and it's an extremely miniscule situation of smash.

August, it's okay; I'm sure Nolan-poo will make your dreams come true.

I'm not quitting; I'm just the last one standing and you can't play this game by yourself. Fests are 90% sitting around, 8% melée, and 2% brawl, maybe. There's no point in going to fests any more for me. If we had a tournament I'd get all hyped up to go and I'd practice and all but until then there's nothing I can do.

I know how you feel tekkie, i'm always pushing brawl at fests but there's only so much you can get. It's really usually just me and walker, occasionally steven and neil, but that's about it. This weekend we will play tekkie

and the taunting, almost bragging about brawl being dead isn't helping the morale around here
hahahah, you guys can keep pushing your ****ty dead game. I'll be playing the superior game that lets me play as a fat scuba diver.

No but really, I'll hold fests for whatever games you guys wanna play next month, after the 15th, when i get my own apartment

No, but all of the remaining players do it

the active tourney thing might not be viable until next year, but it will happen. It doesn't help that I can't really even friendly people oon randpm occasions because my Wii is broken, I have one person who is 1000% wanting to play

yeah the unm guys should have had another tournament lol

anyways fest on maybe friday sounds amazing, i have my wii and harddrive in case anyone wants to play goldeneye or money match in cooking mama or some ****

free entrance brawl or melee tournament or both would be awesome; we could keep pushing to invite more random people but we should probably not advertise it even in jest as a game that's dead around here.

I hate to be that guy that extrapolates from your hyperbole, but seriously, Niall, there is still certainly a point to showing up at fests. I even played Brawl friendlies with Nolan for a good hour yesterday, mostly because the setups forced me to. But realize I had fun!

If you want people to play a certain game with you, then don't expect to just casually mention as you walk out the door of somebody's house, "hey zack i'll see you later man; happy thanksgiving, next fest we'll butthole slam in brawl!!!1!!!1!1!!"

Be serious about it. Be persistent. If fests really are 90% sitting around, then I'm sure you can play ANY GAME with ANYBODY you want.

lol

Nah, I wasn't at August's since I wasn't sure.
Josh, don't just "lol" and brush Tim's message off casually. If you weren't at August's because you weren't sure, then you should have GIVEN SOMEBODY A CALL!!! I know I can't change your nature, but there's a matter of convenience and simple peace of mind involved. I bet you didn't even know where the fest took place yesterday - it was at Nolan's house.

What if, by chance, Nolan was posting on my computer "it is starting" at my house during a fest I hosted? What if, by chance, I was too busy ****** Steven, Paul, August, Erich, Ronald, the twins, Lewis, and Everett (because he just randomly showed up for Thanksgiving) in a melee crew battle during a HISTORIC smashfest, which is why I FORGOT TO CALL YOU AND LET YOU KNOW?

Josh, stop depending on other people for your entertainment. Take matters into your own hands.

Since I doubt no incredible tournament will be planned this weekend at some far-away spacious venue, I'll host a fest Saturday. Since you all seem so hellbent on a tournament, I'll have tio available and definitely reorganize my house to make it tournament-worthy.

If you guys want, we could even consider an entrance fee. Perhaps anywhere from $1-5, and we could split the pot evenly 50-50 to go to the events (which I suspect are Brawl and Melee), and maybe even within that 50%, we could split it further into a 60-40/70-30 or 60-30-10 prize winnings. Again, these are just ideas I'm throwing out.

EDIT: I hope the theme of my post is apparent enough.

i have it narrowed down between the honor in struggle and defeat, or you'll trade me a plundering in melee for one in brawl

also curse walker's wii and its shenanigans my wii can play brawl so im bringing it lol

not sure if i can attend a get together (i'm starting to dislike the word "fest" for some reason) on friday or saturday as a friend and i have a project to work on. top of that i think one of the sf cats is gonna hold a gathering at his place on friday night but nothing is set in stone yet.

If I can find a means of getting there Friday evening then I will be glad to rip you guys a structurally superfluous new behind in both melee and brawl. My TL shall live on!

I must respectfully disagree with your assumed judgement about the forebearance, fortitude, or perserverance (or whatever endurance-like word you can think of) of your hind-quarters. However, being the generous man that I am, I will be willing to help test the calluses that you have made apparent to myself and others.

Yeah, I need to get my **** together and be assertive. Especially since I'm going to apply for a job at that new Golden Corral at San Mateo once it opens next month. Anyway, I'll be ready for the Saturday fest.
