Now look at 1:13. Looks to me like Samus is switching her weapon modes.

That might be her down B. And it might open up a whole new array of attacks for ZSS. And maybe even a new recovery.

Perhaps, but also remember that characters do certain actions when they're just chilling... I really hope so... but her move set today shows that she uses both the gun and the whip at the same time... maybe it changes what her gun attack is... then again.... "What really brings out some characteristic Samus skills is when this gun transforms and releases a whip: the Plasma Whip." Mr. Sakurai may just be cleverly disguising the fact that zero samus has two move sets... who knows.

Also in today's update he kept mentioning how the gun was "self defense at its best"

Maybe there is an offensive mode for the gun too?

nah, i doubt this. they just mapped the moves to different buttons. thats all...peace
