I say just always go with your first main, I know using a different character helps the match up but you should stick with your main the entire time. I plan on sticking with Ness the whole way through, Even knowing what match ups are better against other characters.

Dude, you know what's crazy? I never battled a person who MAINED Pokemon Trainer. Just Pokemon Trainer, I think he's the most least played character, I haven't checked the board so I wouldn't know.

Mine's the opposite, good squirtle, bad ivy. Squirtle is ALOT like Mario, an airborne type character. He even uses water gun like FLUDD.

I get what you mean but in some cases I don't think it's worth it to always go your main. Everyone's different, and everyone has that character that just gives them trouble. I'm just saying there's no point in forcing your main if you don't think you stand a chance.

And there's also the times where your character almost isn't enough. Like if you're just going to infinited by D3 then it's almost a waste of time. I know there are exceptions like Ook v MikeHaze, but... proceed with caution, that's all I'm sayin'. Y'know?

But I know there are really good people like Shaky who don't use 2nds. Some people might need that backup though.
