Hi I'm new, but this isn't an "im new" topic i already made one. But yea i just got back into smash like 1.5 months ago, and well i want to improve my game for Brawl, so ive been lurking here and learning and that super guide is really helpful. anyway in the guide it says to learn how to shuffle but i think i read somewhere that someone said that djc is almost always better that short hopping so im wondering if i should practice shuffling or not? anyway any advice for me? i've already learned wavedashing and the yyg. And i would like to thank everyone that helped with making all the guides, and stuff, ive watched all the videos of ness like the pkt by simna, and the sweet combo video by Vilness. Just wondering what i should do next.

Yes, learn to shffl. While the DjC does allow faster attacks, there are times when you're going to want to save your second jump for following someone. But even beyond that, it's a good skill to practice up on so you can understand how opponents will utilize it.

The more you know, the less you don't.

You should learn both.

Shffl is universal for ALL characters, where DJC is character specific (Ness, Yoshi, and Mewtwo - hope i didnt forget one).

DJC is shorter and faster than shffl, but it comes with a big penalty. If you get hit while DJC'ing an attack . . . you double jumped.

I'm not trying to discourage you, just forewarn you.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i think peach has an "effective" djc too; it's just rendered outmoded by autofloat/floatcanceling. i wonder who else has it

edit: it might help to put a more specific title to this thread.

OK, I'll try and learn thanks. Another Question, do you think i should practice shuffling with Fox, i heard it was beneficial to learn it with him or something?
O and when should i shuffle, when is it better should i shuffle more near the edge and djc more in the middle, or is it something i will just pick up?

Zelda djc's too. Learn it with the charater you want to do it with. I just practiced with all the characters I use (practicing with each specific move).

fox is good to practice shffling drillshines. on practice mode, the shine will count as a multihit combo. look up mofo's drillshine vid on youtube (or on the ness superguide) to see what it looks like, or the advanced techniques video by wak.

once your eyes get used to the slight frame differences in l-canceled/non-l-canceled attacks you can tell if you've done it or not for other characters too.

I think you should learn shuffle first. Though I think DjC is mostly better IMO, DJCing well is a little harder. You want to DjC because it's much faster, but shuffle does have its moments. I tend to shuffle a diar near the edge as an edgeguard for opponents recovering via wallhugging.

hey thats a good idea for edge guarding thanks, also i have another question do you have to l-cancel after or not? because it seems the same to me, im not sure i can clearly see a difference in the short hop but maybe im not djc right?

Frame data for the dair will show you why. There's only the 4 frame landing lag if you land on almost any frame outside when the hitbox is actually out for the attack. I'd find the specifics, but you can find them in the super guide.

You should L-Cancel every attack. There is a difference, if not a small one that can matter. Dair has a noticeable difference.
