Hey guys. I've played the naruto series for nintendo's systems for quite a while and there's a new one coming out on October 21st that I'll be running side-by-side my Brawl tournaments.

Just wonder who out there has played the series before and trying to get hype for the new game!

I'm getting a bit hyped for Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm for ps3, but I'm afraid I've never tried any of the other naruto games. Which ones are worth picking up, if I were limited to ones on the ps2 (noone down here sells GC stuff anymore =/ ) ?

I'm trying so hard not to infect this topic with fanboyish bias.

Naruto GNT 4 is quite possibly the best 4-player fighter after Smash (granted, competition is low), the only flaw is the guard system.

For a 2-player fighter though, I think Accel 2 (PS2) may beat it.

Definitely looking forward to Ninja Storm provided there's a Japanese voice track.

What comes out in October again? If it can't beat 4's roster and/or has inferior waggle controls I'm passing.

I think I still have Clash of ninjas 2 on my GC.

****, defending is even more broken than brawl.

Naruto Clash of Ninja Shippuden 2 is the best of the bunch IMO. But the new one that's comming out in the US has chracters that wasn't even in Clash of Ninja 4, (and took out some chracters). The reason why I'm getting Naruto Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 becasue Anko is the best chracter in the rouster and should had been on the first Revolution. :D

I've played one of these games before, I think. All I remember is is that I was some little girl that hit like a train (Hinate, or something like that? Not into Naruto myself.), and at the beginning of most matches, someone would use a special move that would make a giant shark out of water, which would plow through everyone.

That would be 4.

And, yes, the guard system is incredibly broken, but it's still a fun fighter.

I would still have to say that the US Wii releases are inferior, CoN:R was basically GNT3 with what, nine characters removed? All of the Sound Five? Then they "add" Kisame (ripped straight from GNT4) and gimmicky waggle control.

I will not buy CoN:R2 since it's guaranteed to be more of the same; one of the new characters is some non-canon person from the movie which not many people care for anyway and they still haven't reinstated characters they cut in CoN:R.

GNTEX2, though, I might get that with the recent Wii region-free hack. I just don't know if it's worth it since I already have GNT4 and Accel 2 and am eyeing Ultimate Ninja Storm.

The best ones to pick up are, right now, Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 and Naruto Shippuden EX2. Both are pretty broke, but they're still fun.

Naruto GNT 4 is quite possibly the best 4-player fighter after Smash (granted, competition is low), the only flaw is the guard system.

For a 2-player fighter though, I think Accel 2 (PS2) may beat it.

Competition in Florida and the Midwest is actually pretty fierce for the game. Everywhere else it's a little dry. What do you mean by the guard system? You mean the lack of high/low mix ups? I'd agree to that. I don't like the style of the Accel games but I have heard good things about the series in general. Some people like it, but it's less popular.

In October we have Naruto Clash of Ninja: Revolution 2, with a lot of promised changes. We have actually been in contact with the developers directly and we've got some good changes in the works. It should be really good. In Nov we have Naruto Shippuden Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX3, which hopefully follows suit in making changes since EX2 was fundamentally flawed.

BTW, waggle controls were banned in nearly all tournaments (actually, I think all lol).

I think I still have Clash of ninjas 2 on my GC.

****, defending is even more broken than brawl.
I'm not sure what you all mean about defending, it's not that bad...

Hinata, and Kisame does the shark special, and that was likely GNT 4.

That would be 4.

GNTEX2 was pretty broke, so I'll let you know that going in. I'd wait on a report back about this new one or EX3.

CoN:R2's developers are actually in contact with us (like I've said) and they've made a lot of great changes, I'm excited about this new one.

CoN:R removed eight characters (Kiba, Chouji, Anko, Iruka, Mizuki, Zabuza, Haku, Sarutobi) and added Kisame. Most of these characters are making it into CoN:R2 but all of them except Haku were bad anyway. Kisame is a better Zabuza clone so it works. They never had the sound five in naruto 3 and they did add the gameplay mechanics from 4, like dashing sidesteps and y-canceling. It wasn't bad, except for the obstacles and stage transitions (which can be turned off in the new one). It was actually decently balanced.

^^I honestly like GNT4 more than either of the EX games. Y-cancelin=too good. And they sort of fixed guarding a little (now it could break), but it's still pretty broken.

Um, it was really easy to get around guards. So if most of you are complaining about guards not being able to be broken, you weren't playing the right characters or don't understand how to play this game. The mix up was punch and have them block or make them think you're going to punch and throw. Throwing was EVERYTHING in GNT 4.

Anyway... I really hope you guys get into it because we're trying to rehype this series. Confirmed sponsorship from the developers!!! I'm too excited.

I was introduced to the game whilst living in Okinawa, there was a steady group of around 15-20 people who played. This was back about six months before GNT3, when America by and large had not heard of Naruto (not to the extent they do now). I hated the anime/manga at the time, but the game sucked me in, and eventually I picked the manga up. Bought GNT3 when it was released for 7,140yen. Unfortunately, I moved six months before GNT4 came out, but I had someone buy it for me.

I am assuming West Alabama does not play much.

Unless it includes the Sound Five and all the characters cut from 3 (even Haku, he's funny), I probably won't buy it. I don't even have a Wii; I mooch off other people. Sony took my money. (and I certainly got my money's worth, so I'm not complaining)

Will do.

They never had the sound five in naruto 3
Wow, I feel stupid for typing that. Not sure where it came from. Apologies.

It was, but I'm complaining more about the fact that neutral guard blocks everything but throws and specials, does not differentiate between high/low attacks, and lasts a ridiculously long time.

Really now?

Honestly, i've never played any of these new generation Naruto games (yes i'm a shounen), the only one's iv'e played and find amusing are the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja fighting games for PS2 which I own, but now that I see a Wii version of Naruto is coming up, just got me hyped up for the series once again as I can finally experience the new next. gen Naruto. ^_^

a question: which next gen. Naruto game has been the best so far? just curious.

In order:

NGNT4 is not "new", it predates Ultimate Ninja 2 US release. Also, if you play the Ultimate Ninja series, do yourself a favor and import Accel 2.

The Wii versions are not "next-gen", not because they're on a console which is by the creators' admission not "next-gen" but because they run on the GNT engine (GameCube technology) with minor graphical enhancements and with less characters. The only legit "next-gen" Naruto fighter is Ultimate Ninja Storm for PS3, which is basically Ultimate Ninja in 3D and it's hella fun. Should be coming out anyday now.

Now that I've seen the character list, I'm actually considering CoN:R2 (Awakened Hinata FINALLY returns). There's no Sound Five, Sarutobi, Iruka/Mizuki, or Akamaru, but there are ultimate Naruto/Sasuke, movie people, and other things.

Accel 2 huh? well what exactly will that do? what benefits?

hmm.. I see, so you're telling me that NGNT4 is based on gamecube's technology, well now I see it's not next gen, I only though so because of the flashy looking graphics, not to mention XBox 360's Rise of a Ninja.

Ah hah! Yes, they made moves on a lot of characters with the sole purpose of breaking the opponent's shield. They're pretty devastating on wake up. So yes, there are some unblockables that aren't throws or specials. That started in GNT4 actually, with Cursed Seal form 2 Sasuke (CS2 for short) and his dash B attack and other characters like Gai and Lee's back B attack when charged (quick charge) not to mention tsunade's confusion and etc. There are definitely moves that are unblockable, including moves that when you are backturned become unblockable (itachi's up AA, kimimaro's down X, etc).

And yes! Our first tournament in Chicago for CoN:R2 has confirmed sponsorship! We're pretty excited and we're glad that the developers are keeping in contact with us.

But yeah, as far as "next generation" naruto games... I don't know what you mean. The PS3 and Xbox 360 ones are pretty, but you won't find as solid gameplay like in the wii/GC versions.

That's the equivalent of Ultimate Ninja 5. It rocks your socks. Check Wikipedia.

itachi's up AA, kimimaro's down X, etc.
Oh, was I ever spamtastic with those. Thats the beauty of 4-player fighting, there's always someone with his back turned. Eaaaaaaasy pickin's.

Although with Kimimaro I was more apt to run into the middle of a fight and mash vX, producing many "WHAT THE ****?!?!?!"s as health bars died horrible deaths.

Develowhat? You're actually keeping in contact with 8ing?

The only 360 one is RoaN and it's not really a fighter. Ultimate Ninja Storm is simply Ultimate Ninja in 3D and the gameplay does actually look good for a 3D fighter, but we'll have to wait and see. I still prefer GNT, but it's not shiny.

Right now, only Tomy and D3 in particular (mostly Tomy). 8ing I believe run the Japanese side and we're with the American side. Actually, I'm not sure which companies do what... I'll look into that XD

Well, if there's anyone interested in coming to tournaments, especially in the midwest, you can bet that we'll have them regularly. First one is up in Chicago which has Smash 64, Melee singles/doubles, Brawl singles/doubles, and Naruto CoN:R2. Brawl and Naruto haven been sponsored so far(by Gamestop and Tomy respectively) so it should be a lot of fun!

Here's the link, if people are interested:

I played it 4 a while but then quit, there's too much of the same thing without the thought of changing the battle system.
The Ultimate Ninja series is cool though..

CoN2 was a bad fighting game :(

Guard camping was too good.

S.Kakashi removed pressure almost entirely with his b.A (the sharingan counter) and the fact that it blocked supers was stupid because supers were like one of the two unblockables. And grabs were stupidly easy to break. You could literally buffer b.A if the opponent did anything when they hit you and gain advantage it was dumb.

Oro and S.Sasuke were also stupidly gay.

Fun while drunk though.

See... that game is actually 5 years old. It was a direct port from the Japanese version which started the hype for tournaments, but it wasn't until the 3rd version that tournaments started to pick up, and by the 4th one there were actual national tournaments with a ton of people having tournaments and entering everywhere.

In that game you had a bunch of silly infinites and S.Sasuke's up A being like a 1 frame move. Now you can easily step it. Orochimaru also dropped a couple tiers.

In any case, the games have become more balanced and less ********. It's a shame that the US was stuck with ports and that CoN:R1 was plagued with bugs. It seems they really got their **** together for the new one (out in 2 days!!!)

Yes, the new CoN game looks awesome and its presumebly going to run on the GNT4 engine which makes it worth looking into. Shame there is no Sound 5 or Sarutobi though. :(

No, it runs the wii engine still (it has to, it's a new system) but the game mechanics will actually be modified (read: UPGRADED) from Naruto Shippuden EX2, and that game was really good safe a couple fatal errors that made me beat people wayyy better than me at the game, and Nintendo Power has already reviewed it and said it was the best one to date. I'm pretty excited.

IT'S OUT TOMORROW! Buy it and try to come to some tournaments!

Despite my lack of a license, I keep reading the Midwest boards for some reason. As soon as I saw the thread name, I almost starting screaming "IT'S VAYSETH!". Hopefully I'll get the license soon, because this game sounds kinda interesting, and I'd like to drive up and give it a shot. In addition to Brawl of course.
