Here are what I think of your top 10.

1. Metalcore- Ugh. I can't stand Metalcore.
2. Post-Hardcore- Glad to see someone likes Post-Hardcore.
3. Deathcore- It's okay, better than Metalcore, but nothing special.
4. Screamo- I don't like Screamo either.
5. Dubstep- It's alright, though overrated.
6. Hardcore- Hell yeah, man! The best is probably Bad Brains.
7. Rap- I love Old School, Horrorcore, and Gangsta Rap.
8. Prog Metal- Awesome, especially X Japan.
9. Pop-Punk- I prefer Punk Rock, New Wave and Post-Punk. I prefer to call Pop-Punk Poser-Punk.
10. Deathmetal- I like Death Metal, but it's not the greatest.

Sorry, I didn't know.

Anyways, here's what I think about your tastes.

1. Mathcore/experimental post-hardcore- Yes, both are great, but I prefer Math Rock to Mathcore.
2. Hip Hop- Again, Old School is best.
3. Math Rock- I love Math Rock.
4. Jazz- I prefer Jazz Fusion, but Jazz is good.
5. Post-rock- Eh, decent, but not one of the better "Post" genres.
6. Shoegaze/Post-Punk/Dream Pop- Hell yeah, man! My three favorite genres! As for Shoegaze, my favorite band is My Bloody Valentine, my favorite Post-Punk band is probably Gang Of Four, and the best Dream Pop is probably Cocteau Twins.
7. Electro (specifically Glitch and IDM music)- Chiptune FTW!
8. Minimalism and modern classical- I like Classical, but I like Neo-Classical Metal (like Yngwie Malmsteen, Cacophony, and Stratovarius) even more.
9. Death Metal (specifically tech death and prog death)- I like Death Metal, although I'm more into the Blackened, DeathDoom, ThrashDeath, and Melodic varieties.
10. Noise- Yes! Check out Merzbow, Scratch Acid, Boredoms, and Luigi Russolo (first Noise artist)

You have great taste in music. I'm glad someone else actually has an eclectic taste in music and doesn't have their tastes spoonfed to them from Rolling Stone, VH1, and Top 40 (and Classic Rock and other Mainstream stations) radio.

I'm sure some people genuinely enjoy music that becomes top 40...

Thanks for the kind words Blu Assassin!

however, I do like lots of pop. I love Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Beyonce etc. not to mention pop punk groups like Panic at the Disco and Fall Out Boy and pop hip hop like Wiz Khalifa and Big Sean. Kanye West is one of my favorite musicians as well. It's not about staying away from popular music just because it's popular, but rather disregarding what other people think about it and just pay attention to how the music itself makes you feel.

S-Tier:
1. Metal (various; yeah, haxx I know and I'm sorry, but you are confining me to 10 genres!)
2. Chip tunes (and other video game music, which probably has other names as well ;) )
3. Prog / post rock (/ can I include shoegaze here? ^^)

A-Tier:
4. Ska
5. Folky non-metal stuff (Folk Rock, medieval inspired stuff, ...)
6. Punk / Punk Rock
7. some electronic stuff (mostly aggrotech, but also some house / trance / ...)
8. Reggae

B-Tier:
9. Jazz
10. classical music (mostly Beethoven and Händel)

Melee tiers are pretty accurate in describing the relative enjoyment I pull from the various genres :D
S and A tier are reaaallly close; deciding which of two tracks I enjoy more is almost entirely about the individual tracks, and not which genre they are from. B-Tier is a bit behind, but still can easily win on any given day :)
(metal might be a bit above the others (but is definitely not meta knight status), but that's mostly because the genre is so diverse, that I probably wouldn't have to listen to other genres, and still have some music for any mood that I am in :) )

Shoegaze is pretty different from post-rock, and EXTREMELY different from prog rock. I'm sure there are some bands that overlap those genres a bit but for the most part shoegaze generally shares more in common with post-punk and ambient music more than anything.

I could've tried 3. "rock music that is interesting to me", but that wouldn't have been too helpful, eh? :)
Do you have some post punk examples? I haven't heard of that genre so far, but it sounds interesting.

sure! it's a pretty diverse subgenre in itself.

Sonic Youth - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvDuATZCY8I

Durutti Column http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2GFGsFdURU

New Order http://youtu.be/8PJnBla1vSw

Echo and the Bunnymen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX1PwkgwsG0

but yeah there are plenty of other postpunk bands that I don't really listen to but are pretty popular like Swans, Joy Division Violent Femmes, and Talking Heads. I also personally consider Pixies to be mostly post-punk but that's a label most people would probably disagree with.

post-punk is actually a precursor to shoegaze, so bands like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive owe a lot to older bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and Joy Division and such.

sorry, that's a lot of bands for one post hahaha.

might as well go a little more in depth with my favorites.

Mathcore

gotta rep my most recent favorite band Rolo Tomassi of course.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9yUCOelxS8

ridiculously dense, erratic, tense and MEAN as **** music. it's also often dreamy, heartmelting and introspective. incredibly technical music without succumbing to many metal cliches like double-bass, blast beats, sweep picking. The guitarist is one of my idols.

but there would be no Rolo Tomassi without one of the big names in mathcore (and an influence on many many bands to come since) The Number 12 Looks Like You:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WadOvaGVsFM (from second album)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2DxN3K81bY (from fourth and final album)

This band is classic and their sound is still fresh today imo. Each album these guys made showed a significant evolution and refining of their sound. From the lo-fi spazcore of their first album to the incredibly in-depth and genre bending prog stylings of their last. The dual vocals are just awesome and I love the timbre of both their various voices. Also Jon Karel is seriously one of the greatest drummers of all time.

Experimental post-hardcore

I'll be honest here. I mostly put this label as a way to talk about my favorite band of all time forever HORSE the band without having to mention the loathsome "genre" of Nintendocore- which is a stupid label and I hate people who take it seriously.

but at the same time, "Nintendocore" IS the most succint and apt way to describe HtB's sound I guess. Their schtick is spastic hardcore/metal compositions with heavy emphasis on synthesizers and 8-bit video game sounds and effects. Also, a couple of their songs reference video game characters- "Birdo" "Pol's Voice" "Cutsman" and "House of Boo" and a couple of them steal melodies from Nintendo games. The vocalist of this band jokingly described their sound as "Nintendocore" many years ago, and then it became an actual genre. Basically none of those other bands are any good, and the band has since tried to distance itself from the label.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tISuzGePzow

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7wpzKvNhfA

http://youtu.be/SynVMfvWQk4

HORSE is the most misunderstood band in the entire universe. Most people think they are a joke band. Hell, even most of their fans don't understand what the band is about. People listen to Birdo and think it's actually a song about Birdo from Mario Bros 2. Apparently some people have never heard of metaphors. The song is actually about child abuse. The lyrics are not jokes. They incorporate humor and mix it with the darkest **** imaginable because that's the way life truly is.

anyways, musically they are one of the most adventurous and risk-taking bands around even if they do stick to a basic fundamental formula. Their brilliant at mixing chaotic rage filled music with irreverent dance rhythms and bouncy synth melodies.

also they put on one of the best shows you'll ever see (unless you're really conservative or something lol

phew, that's a lot of words! I'll talk about some other **** later.

Not necessarily in order... Really, don't take them in order, actually - I section off the pop genres from the classical genres in my mind and don't compare them with each other, so it wouldn't be fair to take this in order.

1. Brass Rock
2. British Folk/Folk Rock
3. Soft Rock (of the 60s/70s NOT the 80s)
4. Soul/R&B (also of the 60s/70s)
5. Progressive Rock
6. Any other Pop/Rock (generic Classic Rock?) from the 60s/70s
(The below are my Classical favorites)
7. French Impressionism
8. Baroque
9. Early Music
10. Classic Era (Mozart, Haydn, etc.)

Not in order.

10.- Atmospheric
9.- Orchestral
8.- Soundtracks of Movies/Games/Media (More like OST's than an album of many artists collaborating in it)
7.- Post-Grunge
6.- Rock
5.- Alternative
4.- Post-Hardcore/Metalcore
3.- Metal
2.- Electronic (Preferably when its used with any of the others I listed)
1.- 8-Bit/Videogame-esque music.

I know. It has been shunned away for Dubstep according to some people. But it STILL is a think. I think it sounds cool when done right, and can fit with many genres.

Don't care enough about whatever people want to call their genres to narrow it down further.

I don't feel right ranking them, so I'll just list my top ten in no particular order:

doom metal
sludge metal
hardcore
post metal
classic rock
classical orchestral
solo percussion (marimba solos, vibraphone solos, etc)
percussion ensemble
contemporary chamber/orchestral
jazz

Agree. Hate when people get uptight about what genre of music some of it is. As long as you can listen it, don't worry of labelling it.
