Now that I have your guys' attention... Well, this IS actually a little rant about My Little Pony, speaking of. Now, I'm going to get it all out of the way, but I absolutely love the new series of it. I never got into it so much as a kid, but I do remember seeing a couple of things in my early years of childhood, even playing some of the video games. I think it was either on the Super Nintendo or the SEGA Genesis. Never in a thousand years would I have anticipated I'd be 21 years old, and watching such a bright and colorful cartoon called "My Little Pony". And admittedly? I have the internet to thank for bringing it to my attention. Some people talk about some episodes being better then others or going a little more critical in how "the writing was better for this one" or such and such. But really, do you have to be that into it to look at it that way? I took great pleasure in both the big and little episodes and the lessons learnt from them. I'm watching this show for the value it gives me. An innocent, bright and hilarious show that appeals to surprisingly everyone. It reminds me of when I was a kid, getting up for Saturday morning cartoons. Whether it was good or not, it brings a smile to my face. Even if I watch them through YouTube mostly now, I've gotten that feeling back.

It feels great.

...what DOESN'T feel great, on the other hand, is a lot of the internet stuff that's been following it. Maybe it's a sense of embarrassment because of the overall nature of the show, let alone the TITLE, or just everything building up; the fact that this show gained internet fame as well because of 4Chan makes me feel...uncomfortable. I can't watch this show or post too often in something about My Little Pony without skimming through internet memes (like, "Fluttershy. your waifu. :3"), "brony" talk, Princess Trollestia, Rainbow Dash being a lesbian (now bisexual apparently), the list goes on and on. Now, I know what you're all thinking. "Oh it's the internet; expect it. There's worse stuff out there. Man up, fgt. lololol"

Well, of COURSE there's worse stuff. Like Rule 34 (of which I haven't indulged in, thank you very much) and the underbelly of the internet itself, 4Chan still. I don't have to like it though. I'm not visibly disturbed or mad or anything, but every time I get finished watching an episode of My Little Pony, only to surf the forums again to find something MLP related coming right back to Derpy or the little internet-tastic things mentioned above that I feel challenges the integrity of the show, I sigh sometimes. It's a weird feeling; I have the internet that DOES all this to thank for making me curious about it, but I can't go anywhere on the net to talk about the show I got hooked on, without all this internet lulz stuff mucking up the whole thing.

I just wish that watching My Little Pony could remain seperate from the typical internet shenanigans that have now accompanied it, so I can enjoy watching an episode or talking about a favorite character without being called one of the "bronies" or being asked something like, "so i herd trollestias at it again". I'm not saying that anybody on Smashboards has done this to me, but this is just me, I'm sure.

...or is it? Anybody else out there like this show and yet a bit "uhm unsure" about the internet following that twists things as we try to enjoy it for what it is?

Oh internet. How I love yet question thee sometimes.

... what? O.o

I'd assume the way it's said and used with the type of characters, it seems appropriate to be meme-worthy as I've seen it used before for other characters and the like.

But hey, a rant is a rant. And I'm not the most internet-savvy guy out there. Never claimed to that once. Take what I say with a grain of salt. :p

[EDIT]

Also, that seems a little rude to post to just say you stopped reading after such a trivial point. At least, I think.

Join us, Kuraudo. I didn't read your blog because red is too hard to read for me. But I remember you being cool when you didn't post in red.

Also, Fluttershy is serious business.

By the way,

Kuraudo, something somewhat like this was just brought up a couple days ago. He posted a letter to the bronies and here it is, read it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jVSBq7f1Col7iTzUdidBTW4or8AP_HBPIqUFvEKyM8I/edit?hl=en

Now, after that, here was my response to it:

This guy is completely right, we all need to just be accepting of everyone else in our community and realize that we're all fellow bronies here and need to stick together. Sure, some of us go deeper into the fandom by being furries or liking shipping or grimdark, but you have to realize that, even within our community, there will still be people who are different than you, like the show for other reasons, or that you just plain don't like. When this happens, it's your responsibility as a brony to just love and tolerate it. Wether that means ignoring certain content, restraining yourself, or just flat out swallowing your hate, it will help out the community and even you.

Now I'll admit, I'm a furry, in fact, I'm a HUGE furry, and pretty much anyone who knows me knows that. Hell, multiple people who are reading these comments know me personally, some in person, and while most aren't furries as well and don't enjoy everything that appeals to me, does that make either of us a bad person? No. Does that mean we are ruining the community by not having the same opinions? No, not at all. I just have to realize that some people don't like that kind if stuff, and therefor not force them to look at that art or read that story, and just find a happy medium where you both enjoy it.

Sure, people are going to get offended once in a while, or someone is going to slip up and go too far, but that's where the second part comes in. We have to love and tolerate it. Understand that nopony is perfect and that there will always be disagreements once in a while, and just get over it. If someone posts something you don't approve of or just don't like, ignore it. If you must, ask politely for them too stop or to be more aware of your feelings of the matter. If they don't agree and keep trying, shame on them, that's a terrible attitude and NOT the way a brony should act.

Basically what I'm saying is that, regardless of what you and other bronies enjoy, you have to be sensible of everypony else's feelings and be accepting. If you're a furry, share your furry stuff with other furry bronies. If you're into grimdark, share the grimdark stuff with the other grimdark fans. Just don't try to force your ideals into everypony else and let them enjoy the fandom in the way they like it, that way everyone will get the most out of the community.

@ Z'zgashi

... I'm not gonna lie. That letter and the message behind it in general was...a real eye opener. I like to think of myself as an open-minded and tolerant person, but I didn't even realize that I was no better then the people who have problems with what somebody likes or how they go about things until I read that and looked at what I posted again. Just because I didn't outright insult somebody with names didn't make what I said any less...well, close-minded.

And I feel terrible for it. I mean, I know it's just some kid's cartoon, but it's something we all like and enjoy together at its very basic value. And it really made me take a good look at myself just now. It's fun, it teaches nice lessons, has great characters that suck you into the episodic stories. A moment's escape amidst the rest of life. What you make of it BEYOND that is up to you and you shouldn't be judged for it. Especially when, really, where's the harm?

I don't know what came over me to go as far as this with my little blog post. Maybe I was just afraid or something. Of what, I can't really say. I said I felt better ranting about it, but... I'm feeling a whole lot better saying this right now. What I do know is that as a whole, and not just pertaining to this show and the fans who love it, I've lost my way in tolerance and respect for what others like.

You guys have my heartfelt thanks, really. And my apologies; it wasn't fair of me to do that in the first place. Guess you guys could say you gotta tolerate what I said at first, but whose the one in the wrong here?

I'm a fan, I love the show. It's freaking awesome, but I have no right to take away from somebody else's views.

...oh heck, correction. Somepony else's views. :p

--

I did NOT expect this to happen, hahah. I'm gonna keep on having fun with the show and the fun little things that come from the fanbase. You guys keep doing your thing! Who am I to stop you? And thanks again.

No problem, I know exactly how you feel.

Rarely do my opinions match those of the people I hang around with or talk to, so I've learned the hard way many times to be tolerant and to not ruin other people's opinions. I love to share my thoughts and debate with people on all kinds of subjects. For example, when I get on any forum, especially this one, one of the things I most look forward to is the many debates and conversations that go on about all kinds of things. I enjoy expressing my feelings and ideas about subjects like smash, everyday life, and even MLP, and when an argument arises or theres a disagreement, I try and explain my reasons in the most tolerable and conlict-less way possible.

Your opinion os your opinion, and I'll hold nothing against you for anything you said as no two people are alike and it's not my choice in what you believe, but the point is that you have to accept that people are going to take things further than you'd prefer and are going to like things for different reasons or in different ways than you, and you just have to accept that. Don't try and tear it down or say how dumb or whatever it is to you, just let those people have it their way and ignore it. Tolerate it and just enjoy it the ways you prefer.

From one in-the-middle fan/brony to another, I say thank you for making your concerns known and taking a different perspective. Bearing the few close minded ones does teach the love/tolerate message well.

I accept that, and if anything, I'll more then tolerate it. It's what I wanted to raise myself to be. My family didn't raise me to be closed off, after all. You won't hafta worry about me bringing you guys down anytime soon.

Thanks again.

Looks like our opinions are very different.

I love the internet's side of this show. It doesn't taint the show in the least and makes the time not watching the show but wanting to talk about it much more interesting.

And talking about the show alone... that'd dry up too fast. That's why so much fan content is created, and why there's so much fanon. Derpy is a good example, and she was such a huge impact that the developers actually put Derpy IN THE SHOW.

I have no problem with the internet fanbase, and it's one of the best communities I've ever been a part of.

Edit:
Well, that was after only reading the OP.

And then I read the rest of this and you got 20% cooler.

Pfft you guys suck

I buy rainbow cupcakes and baked rainbow cookies 2 weeks ago.

coloured text is bad coz
1) dark colours are very difficult if not impossible to read on a phone
2) light colours strain you eyes as the contrast is far too strong

That's a bit unwarranted, don'tcha think?

What's to gain from just closing it? It hasn't gotten out of hand, I re-learned about my tolerance for what others like, and it was nice to rant in my own blog entry, and...well, need I go on, really?

Pointless closing this is pointless. Letting it drift off into obscurity whenever talk simmers down though, that's whatever.

If you take a look to your left, you'll see that there's a wild Teran. What a fascinating and domestic creature.

And to your right, you can see a Browny. Look at it's marvelous coat, you can just see just pure hate dripping down it!

And that, kids, concludes our African safari for today.

That was well worth your $20 bucks now wasnt it?

But seriously, tolerance is key if any community wants to survive. Without it, they'll all just end up hating or against each other and it will kill off the fandom.

Yeah but what is that tolerance referring to?

I thought this blog was about how the show is on meme status and one cant talk about it without all the internet propoganda following it. None of which has the slightest thing to do with tolerance. That line just came out of nowhere.

Tolerance of how other people in the fandom choose to enjoy it. For example, some people just like Sonic games (the older ones that were good that is) for the fast paced, side scrolling game play while others like it for the furry art. Those people who only like the gaming side of it need to understand that, allthough they don't enjoy the furry side of it, it's still there, and need to accept, ignore, and/or tolerate its existence instead of trying to shoot it down.

So... you were responding to your own post. The tolerance you seem to think is missing looks kind of similar to a persecution complex; why is it not surprising furry was brought up multiple times?

"/inb4 non-MLP fan or troll comes in w/ "hahhahhah ur a fgt" or gag gesture here"

Wow could this possibly be any more expected. Ever get the feeling this 'hate' is entering a delusional state? As one who has been accused of 'hating' the show many times despite never once criticising any aspect of the shows concept or presentation, I think I'm allowed to make these calls. If the 'haters' you both are sure to follow you around are anything like me, it might be worth it to take a step back and see if they are hating the show, or merely hating its saturation on the internet.

I for one am tolerant of american sitcoms shown here. I like some, I dislike some, some I refuse to be anywhere near someone who is watching it. However when the few free-to-air networks here used to have multiple hours of sitcom after sitcom simultaneously, that got ****ing annoying, and I hated it. Its pretty much the same for me with MLP and certain websites. I dont care about the show, some parts are fine, some I dont like, either way I dont watch it. But when you cant escape it no matter what and get sick and tired of it, I find it hard to believe one could classify that as intolerance. People just cant act however the hell they want and then cry about intolerance. You MUSNT forget the distinction between being intolerant of the subject, and being intolerant of those who push the subject. Again, since you brought it up multiple times, apply that to furry and wow it makes exact sense. 'Haters' will tolerate the subject, but not the people. If you keep all pony related business to pony specific threads/boards, I'm quite sure you'll find that these haters suddenly wont be such a problem and people will be far less intolerant on account of them having no reason to be. Its fandom will still be as large and active as ever and the show goes on, NOTHING will have changed about it. Its the actual people who cause the problems.

Oh look, Browny being Browny.
Snooze. :p

The exploding fandom in all areas (fics, pics, discussion boards, memes, etc.) is just an extension of the show. Directly associating them with the show, and then disliking it is just a way if disappointing yourself when you watch the show.

Just the way I see it.

Treat them as two separate entities. Don't affiliate them directly with one another.

Browny, stirring up **** again. I know that's like your thing or something, but come on.

There's nothing special about this fanbase compared to any other fanbase. You're just describing a case of fanbases of popular things in general.

"A large amount of people like something popular that I don't like, so I'm going to hate them."

Like I haven't seen a damn thing about Twilight, yet I hate the fangirls I couldn't escape from at school. So I just learned to ignore it. It's the same case here. If you don't want to tolerate the fanbase, ignore them. I'm an avid fan of ignoring **** I don't like, and everyone else should be to.

And furries get **** for being weird and creepy, not for being overly prevalent.

Also, ur a fgt.
