Playing fox Makes me to impatient:laugh:. I want to go get someone and just hit them. Playing Shiek I never approach ever. I've decided to play them both much less as a result.:urg:

You don't think when you play just run in and do shine combos lol.
I'll admit little-no thinking in the matches. I hadn't played my fox in a bit and I was raging on the inside because my friend was taking advantage of my rusty fox lol so I RAGED!:mad: It's extremely evident in the Fox vs Falco video. Arguably the most unintelligent rage-edge guard attempts of all time.:chuckle:

Agreed.

If you posted and asked for advice that would be different. Saying you suck, and giving us permission to laugh doesn't really make any sense. This isn't the emo boards, or the ego boards. Alot of people tend to forget, so take note Spam.

I'm eagerly awaiting your questions. :)

Enter tournaments, play people who are better than you, play people on your level, play people worse than you for you. The fact of the matter is, the "I suck" feeling is going to be around for a while. When I first started, I lost all the **** time. In my community, I was known as the guy who would always suicide a stock, always complained about failing **** during matches, always said "I suck". I remember recently at a smashfest, one of the old school smashers from my early days came back and we were talking. He was saying how I used to go on about never getting better, and having no tech skill and "sucking". Its funny now, because I can turn around and tell all these other people in the same position, in that same mindset, that whether its casual or competitive - getting good at melee takes time.

Losing is going to happen, so learn from it and make sure you focus on what you're doing wrong. Not as a negative aspect that will never cease to be an annoyance, but as something you can learn from and commit to changing. The hardest part about getting better is acknowledging the difficulties that come as you try to improve.

Thats step 1 to getting better. Getting used to losing. You have to hold hands with that b**** before you understand how to win.

Story-time aside, you should probably set some goals for yourself to fulfill. Its one of the easiest ways to go about improving. Waveshining certain characters, thunders combo, ledge-stalling/refreshing edge frames, wavelanding, dashdancing/movement, uthrow combos on specific characters; things you can practice and watch videos of to help you out. Everything else the boards can provide you with. Any question about a match-up or Fox related technique, we as a collective can answer.

I apologize if this post sounds too preachy. I just sort of started typing **** and didn't stop. haha

I just read the thread title. What do you want us to do about it? Tell you to practice? Lol. Thats pretty obvious and the only way to improve tech skill. :p

RaynEX has some of the most inspiring and helpful posts o.O I remember back before Brawl came out where there was so much more talking, but so much less information lol.

Anyways, I recently changed my philosophy on Fox playing. For a long time I never liked being a "technical" player, and I had it in my head that there were technical players and smart players (dumbest concept ever). Then I was talking with a friend, who doesn't play smash very often but kinda follows the scene, and we were talking about spacies players. He said that he was bored of watching players who are just tech skill, and gave the example of DaShizWiz, and said he'd rather watch smart players. So I said, Shiz isn't just tech skill, he's extremely intelligent. I mean, how often do you see him miss in a combo? He's got mad combo vision. It's like once the pressure's on he knows what you're going to do, and where you're going to go. That's smart just as much as anything, he's just smart enough to know how to use all that tech skill he's gotten. When I thought about this, I realized you can't just say a player's "smarter" than someone else, because that makes absolutely no sense. They just have more experience, or their style counters someone else's style.

So the point of that was, to get good you need experience and tech skill, at least in my opinion. The only way to get tech skill is just practice... a lot. When playing make sure you aren't looking at your character. I realized this just the other day that while playing, I tend to focus on my character when I'm not actively thinking about watching my opponent. I need to break this habit though as I think I miss a lot of opportunities because of it. Also, if you don't feel your tech skill is where it should be, use it. A lot. I finally started beating some of the people I play with often by literally just doing shield pressure as fast (and correctly, if you just get shield grabbed every time it doesn't help) as I can, moving a lot more, and most importantly, just attacking a lot. Personally, I got to the point where I'm not thinking about my tech skill, which is what everyone always says to do in guides and what not. But I'm still not at the point where I can think freely about everything else in the match without messing stuff up, which is something no one ever mentioned before,a t least that I saw. So I'm working on that. If it means that, for right now, I have to win entirely on Fox's speed, so be it. But at least I'm not losing because I'm getting outsped anymore :)

I hope something in there helps. I probably talked too much but w/e. I feel like I improved more this last Friday, putting everything I just said into action, than I have over the last few months, so hopefully the same'll happen for someone else. Plus I needed a break from this god**** engineering paper -.-;

well the title is a reference to M2K vs Mango 4 from ROM hahaha. It's also a statement I guess....idk. Basically My Fox was decent. I stopped playing for about over a month. Started playing again and my fox was just...terrible. hahaha. I'd say on a 1-10 scale I had reached a 7.8 and was happy with that. During the time this was recorded I was about a 5.5 and thats after trying to warm up. I was gonna give up fox but he's fun to play. I'm practicing alot and hopefully sometime I can put up a "My fox is a little better" Edited version of this thread.:laugh:

also LMAO at WES vs KEN. I seen that a long time ago.

Agreed. Its disheartening sometimes, to play people who are better than you lose time and time again. Start with people on your level or lower, your improvement will be alot more noticeable this way.
