Muscle [Leg] Cramps?

Well, recently I've been having extreme muscles cramps in my legs, primarily my right leg. Usually while sleeping, I'll wake up with my right leg entirely frozen, painful, and immovable. It hasn't happened just once, recently they have become reoccurring, in fact just last night I woke up with a horrible leg cramp. The bad thing is, I limp for the following day, unable to put pressure on my leg. Has anybody else experienced this? I googled it, but didn't get much relevant info, so I was hoping for a first hand account. Thanks.

I've experienced those, though not so bad that I limp the next day. The best thing to do when you get those, as bad as it sounds, is to immediately get up and walk in a circle. I think it eases the muscle down, or something like that. Also, get more calcium in your body, like drinking more milk or vitamins.

I've had a cramp in my leg once too..
But that was when I ate too much and went swimming like 30 minutes after..
I would've drowned if my cousins weren't there.

I guess I had it coming.

I never knew walking around in a circle could help it.

I get these a lot; it's nothing but a severe cramp or a "charlie horse". There's not much you can do about them because they'll happen regardless, but they may occur more often if you are very active (like running cross country, for example).

1. Stay hydrated
2. Eat good food (bananas will usually prevent stomach cramps and I'm sure it works similarly for charlie horses)
3. STRETCH

Those sound like pretty severe cramps to not even be able to move your leg and limp the next day. Never had one of those before, but I have had the twisting muscle knotting pain before that comes from cramps. Just stretch and that helps, but you should see a doctor if it keeps up...sounds severe.

you can't spell muscles correctly *facepalm*

About your pain, I could perhaps think you are just growing up and stretching violently because of that. I had similar problems when I entered my 15 years old, and began feeling frequent strikes in my legs.

This.

Also, as soon as you begin to feel the pain, the faster you stand up and put pressure on the leg in pain, the less pain you'll feel the next day. It sounds weird, but give it a try.

Or just drink a glass of milk everyday. :)

Wow, that sounds serious, Seed of Sorrow.

The worst I get from sleeping is sometimes my neck hurts a bit the next day.

Also, I need to get my muscles into shape. I had a lot of physical exertion yesterday, and now my butt and legs are all sore.

Oh, is this what it's called? I've had them before, but I never knew what they were.

The best thing you can do if it is on your calf is to stand up on it and start wobbling around. If it is on your foot stand still in place. It's quite tempting to apply pressure to the areas with your fingers, but from what I've experienced, that wont do any good.

I get them every once in a while, and usually I find I don't even need to stand up. All I need to do is extend my leg, or bend it or something.

Anyway, you should get rid of it as fast as you can, because then the aftereffects are less noticeable.

My sister had that exact same thing happen to her once! She's quite active though, so it couldn't have been under exercise.

She just went to the doctor and they gave her something. I can't remember what though.

But yeah, she's never had it again from what I know.

stretching everyday helps a lot.
the bigger the muscle is, the more it hurts, too. being more physically active lately than your body's used to can cause cramps too. just be sure to stretch, cool down, warm up.. dunno if you play sports or what though. that's usually why i'd get the leg cramps though

If you hate bananas, try cantaloupe. It's got lots of potassium too. Or you could take multivitamins everyday. That's what I do. My job is really physically challenging, so I used to get them a lot when I first started. But now I take vitamins every day and the problem has stopped.

Off topic but, did you guys know that eating a banana before a test or recital can keep you from getting as nervous? True story! =)

Okay, I thought I'd post a little question I have regarding not cramps, but soreness, in this thread.

On Friday night, I exerted myself physically. I was a bit sore Saturday morning, but it got worse and worse, until Saturday night, and now it's only starting to go away. I'm currently limping around, and it is quite painful to stand up or sit down, and especially to bend down to pick something off the floor.

I figure it will be three or four days before my muscles get all better again. That's never happened to me before. Is there any explanation or remedy?

I'm thinking that it might be because I've been eating horribly recently. I think I've had two meals in the last three days because I'm too lazy (depressed) to get myself something to eat. Could that have something to do with it?

I'm always embarressed when I get leg cramps in school. I have to stand up and walk around a little, only to sit back down- and everyones like "wtf?"

Jammer, I don't think there's anything wrong with being sore like that. When I wrestled freshman year, the workouts were so tough that I felt them throughout the whole weekend and into the next workout. While it may have to do with what you're eating, I don't think so. It might help if you told us what it was that made you so sore.

Well, it's a little embarrassing... let's just say I got a total body workout.

I'm kidding; it wasn't sex. It was badminton. The first time I've ever played.

That would explain it. The first few times I played racquetball I was totally sore as well. Your body just isn't used to the new activity.

When you try something new like that, it puts stress on parts of your body that aren't used to it. I did fencing for the first time a few months ago, and we did a bunch of conditioning. My legs have never hurt so much; I could hardly walk to class.

Same thing happened to me when I had my last job. I was running around along with not being able to sit for 8 hours and ended up having a terrible charlie horse one night after work when I was hanging out with my friends. That was fun.

Haven't had one in about a year though, bananas rule as does milk.

Off topic: At the beginning of summer I was playing some ultimate Frisbee and threw the Frisbee wrong, about oh, 5 times? That terrible sort of throw where you arm just kind of snaps and you laugh at the pain and how stupid you are for throwing it like that. I mention this because my arm still hurts because of it when I turn it or throw something.

Okay, thanks GAW and frank. I guess that explains it. It just surprised me, because I'm in pretty good shape, and I don't get sore playing tennis or ping pong, both of which are very similar to badminton.

And Cashed: I know what you mean. I remember in last summer, when I was playing football (American football). I was throwing the ball a lot, and I didn't realize until later that snapping your elbow means lots of discomfort for weeks afterward.
