The title is insanely detailed with the point of this thread. This thread will be dedicated to those moments where you are all like "This is so intense" in gaming. We all have those moments even as master gamers. So lets change the intensity to 9.0! And lose all our hearts... Punsftw2014

Mine: One time a while back I was playing Mega Man 2. Playing around in Heat Man's stage. I had read that one section of this stage was insanely hair pulling, and the thought of "pfft, not happening." I stand corrected as I got to the insanely difficult block puzzle. As the falls, the intriguing 1-up, and lava ate at my lives, I got frustrated. Then I got Item 2 and found out with that thing the level was a breeze.

Here's my most intense moment of my gaming life.

During the holiday season of 1997 my local Blockbuster Video had replaced Super Mario 64 in the promotional kiosk with Mario Kart 64. As some of you may be aware, MK64 is my favorite game on the N64 having spent literally hundreds if not thousands of hours playing it with friends. I was in Blockbuster browsing around Christmas time because N64 games were still rather pricey back then so I tended to rent before committing to a purchase.

There was a hardcore gamer looking guy of about 19 years old playing Mario Kart 64 and I could tell he had some skills because he was pulling off mini-turbos around just about every corner. He must have noticed me watching him because he arrogantly mentioned that MK64 was also a multiplayer game and would I like to race against him. I hesitated for just a brief moment but instinct got the better of me and before I knew it I had controller number 2 clutched tightly in my hands and I was counter-picking Wario to his choice of Donkey Kong. I guess in the heady moments leading up to our race I reckoned he'd try to bump me off the track if I picked a lighter yet more forgiving character like Toad or Yoshi. I let him pick the track and engine size for our Versus bout - he showed absolutely no mercy by picking Royal Raceway and 150cc so immediately I knew this guy meant business.

We both got the turbo at the start of the race which seemed to take my opponent by surprise and I felt him hesitate ever so slightly as we approached the first turn. He compounded his error further by not getting a full mini-turbo which allowed me to pull ahead as we made our way down to the edge of the lake which rests tranquilly at the center of the track. As luck would have it, I had picked up a single banana as my item and I opted to gamble by dropping it at the bend rather than dragging it behind me. My gambit paid off as I heard DK squeal in distress as he spun out of control and in to the lake. Within ten seconds of the start of the race my opponent standing next to me was already grumbling under his breath. He was far too skilled and hardened a warrior to admit defeat so early as he knew that Mario Kart 64 offers up a wicked level of handicap advantage to those who fall behind, and sure enough his next trip through an item box rewarded him with a deadly red homing shell. By this point I had also been granted a practical implement, given the fact that I was in first place, in the form of a green shell and this time I wisely chose to drag it behind me for defense. Yeah, this guy was quite the tactician as he showed the patience to wait until I was on the other side of the ramp and in the S-turn before launching his homing shell but to no avail as it harmlessly hit the green shell I had in tow.

By this point a small crowd had gathered behind us to take in the spectacle. I never dared look back at them as I knew a victory would take every ounce of concentration I could muster but I was aware of the spectators at a near subconscious level. Besides, they occasionally made their presence known by their guttural gasps whenever they sensed a possible lead change.

Royal Raceway is a very long track and we did jockey for position several times as the slightest error on either of our behalves would cost us the lead. It became apparent the winner of this race wasn't going to be the person with the better driving ability but the challenger with the sharper mind and an edge in luck. Much luck was needed too as Versus also ramps up the excitement by placing yellow bombs on the track which can be, and often are game-changers if one errantly collides with them.

On that day chance was on my side as I was able to lay down a suppressing field of bananas near the end of the track. In fact, there were so many bananas strewn about that we both started to slide on them as we headed down the homestretch. My victory was assured only because I was able to pull myself out of the slide by a deft tap of the brake and regain just enough control to stay on the course. As I did - the half dozen or so people watching erupted in to a roar with some of them even stepping forward to pat me on the back.

Yeah... that was a moment that I'll never forget and part of the reason why the N64 will always hold a special place in my heart.

I'll never forget my time with Wario World. That was one of the very few games I beat without help and I remember being stuck on the Forest level in the 3rd world for months. Once I cleared it, I remember being so on edge with the rest of the game. It was exhilarating.

Probably one of the most intense gaming moments for me was actually a tournament match in Brawl. I've played tons of tournament matches in the day, but man this one was intense. I was Kirby going against a really good Olimar. It's a horrible match-up for Kirby so I platform camped it up and the match was seconds from going to time. I ended up taking the win with a clutch FSmash, but the second I did, I exhaled so hard that I actually had to stop and think about it. The whole match felt like holding your breath in the bottom of a really deep pool for a whole eight minutes. Winning was like finally reaching the surface and taking your first breath of air. I was so immersed in that match that I never realized how little I was breathing during the match, or how my feet curled themselves up on the chair when I left them on the ground before the match.

I was playing flappy bird and I had to poop so bad. I couldn't hold it any longer, so I made one last touch on my iPod and went to use it. When I came back I saw my score. It was one and I was so happy with my high score. I never made it to two.

The first time I beat Bowser in Super Mario Bros 3

It was the first game I'd ever played and the first game I ever beat

My parents ordered Pizza to celebrate

The second would have to be beating Eyedrol in Killer Instinct for the first time

Finally pulling off the "perfect" run of Megaman Zero 3. (Can't take more then five pips in a stage, fairly strict time limit, have to kill every enemy and then some.)

Then I downloaded Animal Crossing an hour later.

Online: Having to kill the Patriarch by myself in Killing Floor.
Offline: A tie between having to finish the mission in Battalion Wars where you invade Xylvania and get ambushed with one lone Bazooka Vet and fighting the Master Sensei in God Hand. Dude was harder than the final boss.

I've had many intense gaming moments and these two just stand out beyond the rest.

Mario Kart 8: I was doing a worldwide race and I unfortunately ended up in a group where I had the lowest overall rank and I was just expecting the worst. I was doing badly until one race on Yoshi Valley where I just dominated. No item could stop me and I almost messed it up near the end when I caught a bit of grass in my drift, but I recovered quickly and then I noticed that a blue shell was coming right for me just feet away from the finish.
I went and stayed on my path and just sped ahead without even paying the shell any mind and I managed to outrun it just long enough for it to hit me just after I crossed the line for my only 1st place finish that day.

NFL Street: In the craziest game winning play that I've ever seen. I had my custom team going against the legends team, next score would win the game and my team was literally standing in our endzone. I played the pass and the ball got tipped. The QB that's based off of me caught the ball as it flew backwards and I just started running with it into incredible traffic.
Miraculously, I ran through everybody just breaking tackles left and right, getting knocked into the wall twice and jumping over Walter Payton for the winning touchdown. And I still can't believe that it actually happened.

The ENTIRE Statue Escort mission from Resonance of Fate. It also triples as Worst Worst Part of a videogame and Worst Escort Mission in a game and considering how ****ty escort missions are, that is saying ALOT

I can promise you the statue one is worse then any other, it's timed, your escort literally can't defend itself for **** and I honestly don't know how I beat it without blowing my ****ing brains out first. It's worse then Water Temple, Worse then Ninjabread Man, Worse then Bubsy games, I had more fun playing a Tiger game and Sneak King.

What IS Sneak King? A Burger King game that rips off Metal Gear Solid where you hide in spots and give people sandwiches from a trash can or pile of mulch. Yeah, THAT was more fun then the ****ing statue escort mission in Resonance of Fate.

Seeing the first colossus in Shadow of the Colossus was stunning to me. Fighting half the things in that game was rather intense, if not really that difficult.

I will never forget the final decision at the end of Fire Emblem Awakening. Weighing the costs and the risks versus the benefits and choosing the fate of this world and the world of the distant future. It's an experience that will stick with me for the rest of my gaming life.

When I beat Super Mario 64 I was estactic, so much that I started screaming. I was in the basement and my parents came rsuhing down all worried haha. It was so hard but I just remember I was so happy!

Years later, I remember Trauma Center: Under the Knife particularly sticking out towards the end of the game. The last operation was crazy, infuriating, and incredibly rewarding because at the end of it you were just like **** you I just did that. There was also another explosive operation in that game that I initially HATED but it became one of my favorite operations in the game

Also, the ending of Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. I played both around the same time. Without mentioning any spoilers, FFVI's final battle was intense, climatic, confusing, and artistically great and clever. Chrono Trigger's final battle was like "it's all been leading up to this" moment, and the music was crazy but amazing. Those are two of my favorite games, for good reasons

In terms of story elements, I'd say a number of scenes in the MGS series. Disc 2 of MGS, Shagohod, and the Microwave Hall were all great.

Gameplay? The puppet ganon fight was pretty difficult on its last form for me as a good. Low health and one shot left with the light arrow, I managed to snipe the tail and kill it. And just like with TimeSmash, I'm going to have to mention Trauma Center. The end was great along with the post game operations as well.

For me, its a toss up between my loser finals set vs Lucky a few years ago, or my crew battle win vs Midwest at pound 3.

Both were absurdly stressful and high intensity situations for me. I can't really think of many non-competitive times it was super intense for me, other than maybe 999 where the story was super intense

I was definitely going to bring up MGS. I'd consider it both intense/freaky, but I was rather young and playing at night when I experienced infamous "Elevator" scene happened. That was definitely intense.
