GDC is a convention for game developers to get together and talk about designing games and other stuff. There's usually a few morsels of information to pop up. Heck, Mr. Sakurai may even be there but not as a speaker (at least, such a thing hasn't been announced). There may be a new trailer in Nintendo's section/presentation or perhaps just an interview with someone about SSBB. I wouldn't get our hopes up but it's definately a possibility.

I somehow doubt we will be lucky enough to hear some Brawl updates, but perhaps. Maybe after, Sakurai will update the site and be like "did you enjoy the new trailer" and stuff. who knows. we are **** due for some new Brawl info : (

Well, it sounds like a place where a lot of bigger players go. And the way the article described it it sounds like a great way to get support or advertisement for something. If they wanted to get Brawl out there even more, it seems like announcing it at GDC would certainly thrust them forward in the game's hype.

Sakurai said he'll update more in 2007 when the game is more complete, perhaps we'll get a new Brawl trailer during the GCD?

A think a trailer is unlikely. News on developement seems much more plausible. Something like what quarter of this year the game is likely to come out, an estimation of characters, online play, the want to know stuff.

When was the last time Nintendo gave an official announcement about Brawl?

Indeed, forever. This will take place when? March, right? That's the third month of the year, nearing 2Q 2007. I don't know, I think to keep people interested it's like there will be some sort of technical announcement. It might be just even a side blurb, but it'll be there.

Last time Nintendo said anything official about brawl that I remember was 11/05/06 (3- bout to be 4 months ago) where Shigeru Miyamoto and Masahiro Sakurai where interviewed about it. Sakurai said how and why Snake got in, confirmed a 07 Japan release, talked about the controls and Miyamoto confirmed a "robust" story/ 1 player mode.
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=64601&page=1

By the time the GDC goes down it will have been like 5 months (almost a half year) past their last official statments about brawl. I could really see Miyamoto releasing some info about the progess/ ball parked release date/ talk about a new feature. . . maybe even a new trailer (hey, alot of people didn't think we would get a 2nd one and if we did it would be in 07. . . we all see what happened).

But, on the other hand, I can really see them acting like brawl doesn't even exist and maybe "ball park" the release by smashing it in the "expect these games this year" group.

I personally can't say either way. . . this is the most anticipated Wii game and has been from the Wii's release. . . .but they seem to really want to be hush hush about it by acting like it's not even being made. Hell, TP was the most anticipated game before Wii release and they gave us much more info about it in it's early stages compared to brawl.
So, in short, IDK. . . I can only hope soo cause March 9th is my birth day (would be a pretty good B-day gift IMO).

We have to expect some kind of information about BRAWL, hell even the trailers them selves say "Get Ready To Brawl in 2007" so we have to expect the game is near complete. If it wasn't they would have put "2008", I may get critized about this but in all honestly, I think GDC may even give us a sample release date. Like Black/Light said, they are pretty hush hush about this, and they released tons of information about LoZ:TP, before it came out. Even tons of trailers. I know I might be putting me expectations to high, but I want to hear alot about Brawl from GDC.

Seriously, I don't expect anything. After Twilight Princess was delayed back in August 2005, Nintendo went into complete lock down of the game and didn't release any new info for several, several months, much like what they're doing with Brawl right now, but even more so. Everyone automatically expected Nintendo's biggest game to be shown at GDC 2006 (I mean, it had been nearly eight months since anything had been said or shown about the game). Did it show up, or was it even mentioned at GDC 2006? Nope.

I mean, if it does show up in some form at GDC, I'll be overjoyed, but I have this lingering doubt.

Brawl hasnt been delayed. Mainly because it hasnt been given a for sure release date. The trailers and developers have both stated that gamers will be Brawling in 2007. Granted we have awhile before 2007 ends. But the game has to be somewhat close to production. If not the game might be pushed back to 2008.

I don't expect anything at all. Not a trailer, not a release date, not new info. Nothing at all.

Because he who expects nothing cannot be disappointed.

I would really like a new trailer confirming four or five more characters. They don't even have to be new characters. I'd be happy with them confirming a few returning characters.

On second thought, I'd be happy with them confirming Bowser and Luigi.

Well, when the media asks questions pertaining to SSBB, you know Miyamoto will beat around the bush like he usually does giving half answered questions like for example....

Reporter: What are the identities of the final 2 third party characters?

Miyamoto: You'll find out soon enough *laughs*

Im gonna try and not get my hopes up too much about this one. My hopes have been crushed too often by letting myself get all excited. Like you guys said about T.P... it could be delayed many times before it actually gets a solid release date. Im still expecting it to come out late this year, im waiting for e3 to really get my hopes high about new brawl info.

Too bad I spent my childhood with Sonic being anti-Nintendo, and refuse to support his inclusion in Brawl =P
But yeah, on the subject of there being no delays - wasn't Brawl originally going to be a launch title?

I expect nothing, because in all liklihood that's what we're gonna get. No sense getting your hopes up on a "what if".

About this "Wasn't Brawl said to be a launch title" stuff. . .that was WAY back in 05 when they first stated there would be a SSB3 (before they even knew if Sakurai would work on it). The game wasn't even started and Sakurai didn't make up his mind about making it or not.

Now, seeing as Melee was made in like 10 months, it wouldn't to fare out to expect to be able to make SSB3 without really touching any of the first 26 and adding WiFi and more characters in a year and a half right (seeing as Nintendo didn't have a answer from Sakurai and thats what they would have mostly done w/o him)?

But than Sakurai decided to come work on it, was given the title of director and he has really been putting his all into this game to declone clones, redo characters from the ground up, redesign and design old and new characters, add a "robust" 1 player mode and ect. Seeing as none of this was happening back before the 05 statement you can see that it wasn't delayed, they just planed on a release with Wii before underforeseen events happened . . .and before the game was even being put together.

Nothing's going to happen...why?It's common sense.

In may of 2006 we recieved the first trailer for SSBB,then after a short time later,we recieved a second trailer within 7 months.Just think about, what game have you known to give frequent updates?

A majority of game developers take the time they have on a game to develop it further, another trailer wuld be a waste of time..when you can simply wait.

They don't need to show video footage. They could even just flash up a few images. Maybe some silhouettes of new characters..?

new character silouettes would great, informative and fung guessing at the same time!! But the truth is that they dont have to do anything to keep interest up for this game, so i guess they just dont bother with it

That still wouldn't happen. They can't and won't do it,due to the fact that they want to build up hype...even though it is a very cynical attempt,it's effective.

The companies are trying to develop a good game, not show information at every-single-game-based-event,then people would know what to expect.Information will possibly come around July...

Remember back when it was a launch title?
Remember back when the Wii(Revolution) didn't have a launch date?

Since my topic was locked, I'll post it here;

Yes, everyone knows that Miyamoto is giving a keynote speech at GDC. Nintendo always gives keynote speeches at GDC, though traditionally they do not have a place on the show floor with a booth or anything. Well, this year Nintendo does in fact have a booth at GDC;

http://www.gdconf.com/expo/floorplan/2_9/07_GDC_WEST LEVEL 1_02_09_07.pdf

This is the floor plan of the West Hall, first floor, and Nintendo does indeed have a booth present. Had Nintendo only been giving a keynote speech like previous years, I wouldn't expect anything Brawl related, but now seeing that Nintendo has a booth on the floor, what do you think the chances are of us seeing new Brawl info?
