TECHNIQUE LIST
Beginner’s Techniques
Jumping: You can press either Up on the Analog Stick or you can press X/Y.
Crouching: If you press down on the Analog Stick, your character will crouch (duck) and can absorb hits (look down a little more for an explanation on how to do that) or to slip under projectiles.
Floor Diving: Press down when on a small platform to fall through it.
Fast Falling: When in the air, pressing down will make you fall a lot faster, this isn't good when trying to recover but let's say that someone wants to hit you in the air, let them get close and when they're just about to hit you, fast fall and avoid the blow.
Edge Hanging: You can grab onto the edge by being directly in front of it or above it. Once holding on, you can press either Up, making you pull yourself up, A/B, making you attack, L/R, making you roll or X/Y, making you jump.
Shielding: There are three different kinds of shields, the bigger they are the weaker they are and the longer they take to wear out. The biggest shield is activated by pressing the Z button, but it takes longer to bring up, because you will grab, then shield. The middle sized one is activated by lightly pressing either shoulder button (L/R). The smallest and most used is activated by pressing the shoulder buttons all the way in until you hear a clicking sound. You’ll notice that the larger the shield is the lighter it is, and the small one is very colorful.
Vertikill: Double jumping with X and press Down A at the same time. This cheats the delay in meteor smashes and brings YOU up and puts THEM down.
Aid dodging: The simplest way to explain this technique is to shield in the air. You can also direct the air dodge to any direction you wish to go.
Crouch Canceling: To crouch, you press down on the Analog Stick, this also makes your character able to resist harder hits. This is also named “Turtling”.
Triangle Jumping: This is performed by jumping in a forward manner, making you go diagonally upwards, then you air dodge diagonally down in the same way, thus making a triangular jump.
Dash Canceling: This is performed by dashing (running) and then pressing down, making you stop immediately and not slipping or having to recover.
Jump canceling: This may seem hard but it’s very easy to do, simply press jump and immediately air dodge back to the ground. That sounds easy, but you shouldn’t leave the ground.
Rolling: Press Shield and then Left/Right.
Ground Dodging: Press Shield and then Down.
Wall jumping: This isn’t performed by Ganondorf in the same way, he isn’t able to do it without getting hit, but that will be explained in the Advanced Techniques. Wall jumping can be done by Mario, Captain Falcon, Falco, Fox, Samus, Sheik, Young Link and Pichu. This is done by touching a wall in the air and then pressing the opposite direction, making your character spring off.
Recovering from a Broken Shield: When your shield is broken, rotate your controller In circles (360 degrees) in order to shorten your stun. The higher your damage, the more useful this technique will become.
Advanced Techniques
Juggling: This is done by repeatedly attacking your opponents and sending them into the air, and not letting them land and/or recover.
Spikes (Meteor Smashes): These are attacks that send the opponent flying downwards, do this off and edge to a highly damaged foe to KO them. Works extremely well with Ganondorf.
Dash ‘n Throw: This is done bye doing a dash attack then while still attacking pressing Z in which case throwing an item. This can only be done however, with either the Ray Gun, the Fire Flower or the Super Scope.
L Canceling: This is easy to do but hard to time, simply press L at the same time as you touch the ground, making you recover immediately and stand.
Roll Teching: This is the exact same thing as the L Cancel, except that when touching the ground, not only do you press L, you also press Left/Right on the Analog Stick, making you recover immediately and roll.
Wall Teching: Done the exact same way as an L Cancel but when hit into a wall, making you recover and drop without bouncing everywhere.
Ceiling Teching: The exact same concept as the Wall Tech, except performed on ceilings.
Wall Tech Jumping: Simply do a Wall Tech and press up, making any character Wall Jump. It’s extremely funny when you see Bowser do it.
Dodge ‘n Drop: This is done by holding an item (any) and doing a neutral Air Dodge, and immediately dropping the item by pressing Z. Especially useful with a Bob-omb in your hands, you just dodge, drop the bomb and therefore hitting any opponent next to you while dodging the blast.
Short Jumping: This is done by very lightly, and I mean extremely lightly, pressing Jump. It’s easier to do with the X/Y buttons so I recommend using them. Your character will slightly come off the ground, to notice a huge difference I suggest trying it with Falco.
Dash Dancing: This is done by Dashing (running) back and forth really fast. This makes a could and your animations get doubled or tripled thus confusing your opponent.
Expert Techniques
Wavedashing: This is very hard to do, if you want it to look really nice. To perform it, you crouch, then jump and immediately Air Dodge in a Down Diagonal direction. Meaning that you air dodge in the direction Down/Forward or Down/Backward. You can do this in both directions, making you move forward or backward, for offense and/or defense. When you get good at it try to do it without crouching at the start. It will look like you crouch, then stand up, like a wave, and when a few are linked together you can make a wavedash as long as the stage if you please. The best locations to do this are on the spaceship in Fourside, the oil spill in Flatzone, the ice patches on Icicle Mountain and the slippery pink part in the F-Zero track.
Wavedancing: This is done by taking the first 1-2 steps of your dash then wavedashing backwards. It could be used to look flashy or to fake the opponent out.
Powershielding: The time on this is very hard, it has to be down to the split second. When a projectile is so close that it’s inside your shield range, press shield (you have to click the shoulder button) and it will reflect the projectile. You can do this with normal attacks, making a white flash and just blocking the attack, computers do it often. Reflecting is the best, powershielding normal moves is useless because a ground dodge is better.
Spike (Meteor Smash) Recovering: This is extremely useful, but probably the hardest thing to pull off. If you’re fighting someone that has a really good spike and uses it, instead of getting KOed all the time, you can recover in the air from it. Just press L/R or Z and X/Y right after getting spiked and you’ll be ok and have all your jumps back.
BIOGRAPHY
Said to be the sole man born to the Gerudo tribe in a hundred years, Ganondorf aspired to conquer the world. He plundered a piece of the sacred Triforce from the Temple of Time when Link pulled the Master Sword from it’s pedestal. With the Triforce of Power in Ganondorf’s possession, Hyrule was plunged into darkness until Link and Zelda defeated the fiend. Since he’s slow and can’t jump very high, Ganondorf relies mainly on his immense physical strength to overwhelm his enemies. His great weight also makes him a difficult foe to send off screen. Ganondorf’s Warlock Punch is slow but absurdly powerful, and when he strikes with his Gerudo Dragon, enemies rise skyward enveloped in dark flames. Ganondorf’s slow speed works against him in single combat, but in melees, his crazy power lets him earn his keep with innumerable KOs. Ganondorf can’t strike quickly, but each blow he lands adds up. Ganondorf is at his quickest when he uses the Wizard’s Foot, and his Dark Dive blasts foes in a burst of dark energy.
