Alright, I use Marth as my main and perfected just about every single advanced technique. I use SHFFLing and Wavedashing quite often so I know how they work and everything. Now my friend I have been training a lot so we can host a tournament and finally go to some this year. Now when we are training, I am main assault, I unleash chain grabbing, then a series of slashes with the SHFFLing and then usually, a spike or a tipper and win. My friend now insists on constantly shielding and trying to grab, which kind of negates my combos and such. Is there any ways to stop his shielding, then unleashing some combos on him? Like I said, I usually grab and Fair and Nair to hit him with some good damage, any suggestions on how to get around his **** constant shielding?

From the way your talking, you know about advanced techniques, but your not good at incorporating them into your gameplay. You said you shffl, to stop his shieldgrabbing, all you need to do is spotdodge after a shffld fair. Or dtilt after a shffl.

I am more good at incorporating them in just a straight assault, though yes, I do need work still. Like, I am know how to SHFFL and then execute it enough to start racking damage, it's just when I was presented with a shield, for some reason I can't seem to keep the momentum going. I am definitely going to try what you said though, thank you, it's greatly appreciated!

If your opponent is shielding a whole lot, that means you should be grabbing him a whole lot because he is giving you lots of grabbing opportunities. You might also experiment with marth's shield breaker (neutral B) move to get him out of his shield. Space it and hit him with a partially charged attack; it will put a good dent in his shield.

Your fair and nair can be spaced such that he cannot grab you. Also, there is a stun to each of your attacks, but it is greater on the side of his shield rather than the top. Basically, don't use a fair or nair until the last possible moment and hit on the side (or front) of his shield since he will get out of the stun earlier otherwise. You can also spot dodge or roll away. You could also experiment with approaching like you are going to fair or nair, but do an empty jump. Then when you land you can take advantage of your shielding opponent. Experiment!

Vary how you approach him. Don't just mindlessly attack with fairs and nairs. Perhaps you should alter your playstyle to be more defensive by waiting for him to make a mistake and capitalizing on it by grabbing or attacking. If you want to grab him, spam fairs and nairs so he thinks you're going to attack him. If you want to attack him, dash dance back and forth so he thinks you're going to grab him. More than anything, improvise your game to stay unpredictable; marth must adapt like water to its surroundings in order to win.

incorporate some mind games too. like you can try a shffl fair and let him grab you a couple times, then the next time you come in, make it look like you are going to attack again, but instead just short hop and waveland backwards and hopefully he will fall for it and grab. if you are fast enough you can either wavedash towards your opponent and dtilt, or even run and and short hop double fair.

Dtilt is a great poke against people who like to shield alot. It's hypersafe, easy to space and will eventually poke under if you keep doing it.

I thought that a D-tilt after a spaced fair was a good thing to do against a shielding opponent like the one mentioned here. It hits low on the shield and has very little lag so even if it doesn't make it through their shield they can't do much to punish you anyway.

As for Red Steel I think you just need to learn how to bait him into attacking. Space some SHFFL'd fairs so that he has to get out of his shield. That Spaced neutral B thing is a nice idea and he refuses to get out of his shield after that you can just poke at his feet. Take UMBC's advice and you should see your offense start to break through his constant shielding and he'll start doing it less after he realizes it's not helping much.

Marth stretches his arm and body forward for the d-tilt. So as his sends his arm out with the sword his arm will get grabbed. Happens more so whn facing Marths and Sheiks.

Actually just space your shuffled fairs and then, do nothing.

I can almost garuantee you that they will grab air. People are so used to sheild grabbing Marth after his shuffles that if you space it well and do nothing, they will just try to grab and be like, "WTFOMGBBQ?!!!?!".

Or you could abandon your spacing altogether and just go for a shueffled fair and then just run through him and then turn around grab. Or run up with a dash cancelled d-tilt then run away then run back in and grab or fair combo. You can do alot actually.

maybe u should just try jumping and then fast falling straight into a grab..... (basically empty hopping) it works if your opponent is hell bent on trying to shield grab you. they r just waiting for u to hit their shield and then u grab them.... its really sneaky...:lick:

What emblemlord said is pretty good advice. Dashing behind them for a grab is a good strategy if you screw up your spacing. I've seen good marths do that a lot.

How to dash behind them for a grab? If I dash past them and the snap the other way to grab, Marth stumbles. Unless you're talking about dashdancing grab? But that's dangerous if you're close enough to press left and right and get on opposite sides of the opponent.

Your run through them and thier grab will miss you. Unless they expect it you will get a free grab. And most people don't expect it.

Only pros and near pros will try to roll away or attack out of their shield to hit you. And even though it will still work about half the time.

Most people just don't expect it. Marth has a very long opening stride in his dash and it happens so fast.

Use it. It works.
