PM, i hope you realize that it takes a hella-sh*t-ton of skill to be competitive with any character. You can't just pick up a character and expect to win with them (unless your competition is way worse than you). You actually need a really good feel for how to use a given character in every situation, it's what makes this game fun and competitive. btw: tech skill isn't really hard at all, nor is it that extremely more important w/ fox than any other character. Sure, if you're brand new to the game, fox can be hard to use. but once you realize that tech skill is just the very basics of the game, you realize, that all characters take just as much character control and overall tech skill (like timing, spacing, etc...). So i think that it's time for you to chill w/ you complaining about "Sheik's so easy, fox takes a lot of tech skill, etc..." because all chars take a lot of tech skill, and no chars are easy.

Having a technical character does not make them harder to use. You must be able to effectively use your mind games and cover up your character's weaknesses and utilize their strengths effectively in order to effectively use your character.
IMO, there are only a very small handful of people in this nation(like 3 or 4) who have "amazing" young links.

btw. These people do not include Hero Sublime, Chu Dat or Caveman.

im aware of that its more of my opinion and i know that none of the characters are easy but what i think about sheik still remains. about the fox what i meant was theres so much more you can do with fox so i think it would take more skill to use him then most characters IMO. the sheik thing is more about the fact that if you look at all of sheiks match ups it seems more easy to win with her then most in other words if the other player wants to win they have to match that others persons skill and go beyond that. oh and the thing about me just picking up sheik i was just putting her down again lol i know ill never be good with her that quickly it takes a while to get decent with a character

Sheik is easily the best character to beat any weak players with because of her relatively low lag attacks and practically set-in-stone formulaic combos. When it comes to the higher levels of play, though, everyone knows how to deal with a Sheik. She, along with Fox, Falco, and Marth, are the characters that anyone who wants to be competitive and competent in a tournament NEEDS to know the matchup against.

-PM- : if you're talking strictly about matchups, i believe falco has the strongest overall matchup rating. i guess i just don't see your problem here. Sheik is a character, no easier to use than (non low-tier) other characters. have you ever seen Forward's sheik? clearly not if you're saying she doesn't have any tech tricks like fox. So, i guess i don't even really see what you're b*tching about to help correct your problem. sorry for wasting your time.

Canton = Much closer than Southfield for me. And it's free...sure why not? I'm there.

Is there a time we should start showing up around? Anything to bring? Will there be space for friendlies?

Sorry if those were already answered.

I'd show up around 6pm, everything should be setup and registration starts between 6 and 7. Free play until registration ends, then again when the tournament is over.

Bring a memory card if you want to play with unlocked characters, that's about it!

This email I printed out says that the tourney starts at 9:00PM, so should we still show up at between 6 and 7, or can we show up like at 8:50 and still be fine.

You need to check-in / register at the event as well. I'd be there earlier to be sure.

SmooveG, are you still checking around here?

I've been getting numerous people telling me that you run on widescreen aspect ratio HDTVs with a significant amount of lag. I'm not sure if you have any experience in SSBM or fighting games in general, but in a game that a large amount relies on speed and timing, lag is bad. In a game where players get rewarded for making good judgment calls on range and spacing, widescreen scaling is bad. And in a game where, to put it simply, **** happens, single elimination can be bad, too.

Just wondering if any of these things are fixed now or are going to be in the near future.

Yep, we've already commented on the issue in other posts and have covered it on the www.midnightgamingchampionship.com forums... we had the TV's purchased before we landed on Smash Bros. as our marquee fighting game; now that we have started, we need to maintain consistency in all of our tournament markets. For the finals in Dallas on October 6, we WILL be addressing this issue so that all the Smashers have an optimal tournament experience!

Not that I consider myself good by any means, but I can't make it to the one this saturday. We'll see about the ones in August. >>
