How do all of you prefer to Z air?
Just as a note, there is the normal Z, or you can air dodge and attack.

Both have benefits... I just switch it up some times.
Using the normal Z air is just one button press, but air dodging and cancelling it makes it so much the more fun.

I find it hilarious whenever you get knocked horizontally, but have time to air dodge and then zair back. It's like a mini counter... hehe.

So, how do you all do it?

R+A is the most reliable because any aerial followed by a Zair results in a buffered airdodge, whereas a true zair can be executed during any air dodge. Nothing is worse than going out for a dair, then immediately tapping Z to grapple ledgehog only to airdodge to your doom..

I throw out zair a tad bit less than your garden variety Samus player. This is largely because I play defensively, and so I use the zair to cancel the airdodge. God, that cancel is so good.

I love using the air dodge and grappling onto the edge just after being hit.
So much fun doing that.

Switching your R button to Grab makes it feel a little more natural in my opinion. Just a suggestion.

I use Z to start, R+A to continue. The reason being, I may want to change my plan in the middle of a jump towards my opponent. If I intended to press Z, I would have some time to rethink my actions. If I airdodged, I would HAVE to use zair. Comboing is easier using R+A especially after an aerial, or to grab the stage.

I just use Z for attacking, but I use air-dodge + zair (L + Z) sometimes when recovering. I find it particularly useful to get back on the ledge instantly when you're sent off the stage, since you can just air-dodge instantly and then zair to grab the ledge right away.

Apparently I'm weird in that I use the wii-mote and nunchuk. I have my grab set to down on the pad, though I only Z-air when I have a damage disadvantage.

You aren't alone! I'm a Wiimote player, too.

I have grab mapped to up, though, as Uair is easy to work with as long as tap jump is off. Dair is too important a move to risk fastfalling at inappropriate times with.
