Ahh GC does care about profit
Just on $10 tournaments, there isnt any so I havent cared about making it with you all. But take Halo Tournaments for example.
$25/person ($75/team) and I give out 40% to 1st, 20% to 2nd and GC gets 40%, which is th enormal tournament distribution for Halo, Warcraft, CS, etc...
If I did something this big, it would be like the above sort of thing (prob spread a bit for 1st - 5th or something... like 30%, 20%, 15%, 10%, 5% which is 80% given away WAY more then anyone else ever has...but thats a TBD sort of thing based on entries). Because I would have to rent some place that would have to get paid for, as well as pay Staff and such.
This is where Sponsors would come in also. (So if any of you have Sponsor connections let me know!!)
In addition I would prob try and run this at the same time as a 50 team Halo2 tournament, so I would be talking something like the Lynnwood Convention Center, which is prob $2500 for a weekend. Would also mean I would need 10-15 more TVs, maybe even 20.
So I would not expect to make anything on the first GC Big *** Tournament and prob lose $1500 on the whole thing instead... but it would set it up for the next one to make some serious cash and get sponsors so that prizes as well as cash was given out to 1st place++
The way these tournaments work is that Sponsors pay all the bills and prizes and the Organization keeps all entry fee's. MLG makes HUGE cash off tournaments, because everything is paid for.
Since GC is small has few/no connections, I would be footing this entire bill the first one or two times...until I had a track record to get Sponsors on board.
So maybe for first time around, I split this and do a SSBM one time and a Halo a diff time and then try and combo them for the 3rd one or something...
*****All of the above is "thinking outloud" and is not based on jack for statistics or math... its just thoughts on how I would do this and completely subject to change as soon as the next post maybe even within this same post...*****
