Soo my computer got attacked by a virus this morning.. all because I visited Wiiso and left the page up for too long. Either that or BionicSonic sent me a virus through AIM.. lol

I had an antivirus program, but the virus attacked the antivirus program itself and posed as the program and started eating away at other things. It sucks.. be careful, it could be a holiday virus. I still have no Idea how I got it, it came out of nowhere.

Ok, bolt is obviously not the bright with PC's, so I'll fill everyone in, as an IT guy

Any of those spyware/malware/viruses pretty much function the same. They all pose as fake antivirus software. Most Antivirus software doesn't actually block these programs from installing, they install themselves and usually slip by you. Usually its either a pop up on the web or an email attachment.

I've never seen an antivirus that can deal with this adequately. However, I've ALWAYS been able to recover client machines that get infected with this. Using a combination or two softwares, I've been able to remove all traces of these instances.

Try out Malwarebytes.org and google search "SuperANTIspyware", as both of these are great spyware removal tools. They work well together though, they cover a few things the others don't.

Now some of these fake antiviruses are advanced enough to stop those programs from running. They also stop msconfig and task manager and other useful tools.

Bolt, give that a try, install one of the two softwares i listed for you, and if you can't get it cleaned out, look for me on AIM, i'll use a website program to get connected to your PC and tell you if I can clean it up or not.

Worst comes to worst I can fix it at GameHaven, which i'm now going to, i'll draw a map out later.

All I did was send him a 4.2 safe update homebrew app I edited... I really didn't think that'd trigger anything LOL. Listen to Tant though, and if possible, get him to remote control your comp to remove the malware.

I gave Bolt two pieces of software once he removed the malware: AVG Anti-Virus (the best one out there, its free, and updates its database every day), and Spybot Search and Destroy, both should protect your computer from this happening again

Spybot can catch things but it doesn't seem to remove stuff

AVG is the software i use for home PCs, antivirus really only serves as a guard, rather than fighting things, if it gets past the guards they are too slow to catch up

I removed all the malware from my computer, now I'm going to restart outside of safemode. I'll let you know whatsup once I let everything load.
