Okay so this may seem a little weird, cause it is. Basically I've been playing as Marth since I unlocked him in Melee, always been pretty good, about 2 months ago I reached my peak where I had learned how to use spikes, tips, dancing blade, almost everything into a fine art, I could sling them together pretty well. Yet the problem I have now is I just can't play as Marth, I'm getting beaten by level 9 computers when before I was beating then with ease.
I relie alot on Marth's aerial, especially fair because it's one of the best hit back attacks, but now all my spacing is wrong and anyone who can even button mash knows how to dodge me. Even when I change my tactic I can be seen through, but it's not more of them seeing how I play, it's just me sucking with the timing of attacks.
So I decided to try using Toon Link, problem is I fight with him just I would do Marth so his projectiles and such go to waste and I suicide alot trying to use dair.

So basically I need to get back into using Marth but I don't know where to start really, so can anyone give some advice that could hopefully fix this?

Well what can we say?

If you have absoloutely no talent for the game then what can we do or say?

If it's as you say, it seems to be psychologically based. Perhaps a bit of a break and a breather from the game will allow you to have a fresh outlook upon your return.

Don't worry about fighting computers, you can't really learn anything from them. Have you considered that maybe the people you fight with have increased there ability to play.

Personally I use to be able to get spikes no problem, but it has become more difficult as my opponents have increased in skill.

Play MK, instant win.

Joking aside, you just sound like you're not good at Smash. Maybe try playing other characters then go back to Marth if you like him still and try again. Playing other characters will give you new ideas that can be applied to any character.

ah marth boards..... almost as ghey as these posters
Rudeness of comments might be inappropriate, but the point is still legitimate. If you are naturally bad at the game, these boards can't really help. But that may or may not be what is happening.

Marteh, practice against human players, even if on laggy wifi, its still better than cpus. Watch videos of competitive marths and possibly get something out of them. Focus more on your spacing mechanics than your technical skill. If you need to change you character, fine, just it might be good to stay in the higher tiers.

The ignoance that comes from the people on the boards.....It seems like everyone is trying to become the next Yuna...
I take offense to that. I think my answer was very legitimate. Those ARE three viable options, and I'm not insulting him. He asked what he could do, I suggested maining mk which might serve a better use for him than Marth if he just wants to be good. He could practice if his ultimate goal is to be good with marth. And if all he really wants to do is be able to beat people, learning to wobble is a **** good way to beat people outside of tournaments. How is that a yuna post?

I doubt he was referring to you. Your advice was fairly legitimate.

Yeah...a lot of people on this site are douchebags inside and need to get more of a life, because all they want to do is sit on their ars and insult you for just asking some simple questions. Listen, to get better, you should do it with fighting human players, not cpus. Learn where all of Marth's attacks tipper and time dancing blade perfectly every time. Start using his tilts, because they are better than his smashes. Dtilt is good for poking. Ummm.....shield breaker is beastly. Don't counter unless you're sure it will work.

We aren't douches, we just think that it is ignorant to post all of this stuff when there is a wealth of knowledge on these boards that people do not use. It should not be taken for granted that we have such an amazing poster as EL here on the Marth Boards, people should try too find information on their own.

Go back to Marth, (it's up to you)

You can go learn lots of characters. I did that, for a couple months. I never really advanced in any of the characters I tried learning. I just learned their spammables and spammed. (that goes saying Meatknights Spamnado) If you're still into the game then learn a character you feel that you have most fun with.

Lucien's advice for me was to choose a character I have fun with--not based on tier, not based on ATs, not based on anything but if you have fun playing with them.

If you aren't using TL's projectiles, learn non-projectile based characters. Like MK, Snake, DK, Marth, Lucario, etc.

You have to learn to incorporate "specials"... espcially with Marth.

On these boards, DB, DS, and SB are godly.

More and more, those three specials (and actually even counter) make Marth a great character. With only the caveat of good/great spacing game.

...

Learn your approaches. Learn your spacing (tip). Learn what true combos exists. i.e. grab release -> DS or Fthrow -> Dair (death)... so on.

I don't recommend fighting computers. Except level 3's use them to learn your spacing. Find some mediocre/good friends and just play.

Learn strategies. Recommend, read the threads on this board. They'll help a bunch.

...

Lastly, watch videos. You can learn a lot from other players. A LOT. Good Luck.

Yeah thanks to all the advice given here, especially the in depth ones.

But yeah all it actually required was a little break and verse a human, with CPU's I used to just try to hard to win and forgot to relax, yet now I'm more enjoying myself then wanting to win. Proves I'm a douche lol.
Seriously, thanks to all the people with useful advice, and also too those who called me a noob because simple, I've got more incentive to show you up now lol

Oooohhh, these posters are helpful, no?

Go back to your basics. Attempt to relearn what is actually meaningful, and stick to it. Pretend like you've never played before, and familiarize yourself with what a novice would focus on. That is what I try to do whenever I get in a slump. That and time will will eventually pull you out of it. Also face human players, it helps a lot more.

We're proud of our spam skills.

btw fair is not the same as bair. It's a kill move.
Also arrows can be used not only in SHDA, but after nair, bair, fair, bomb pull, and bomb throw. In a short hop. Which makes him a very spam character.

We all have our opinions about characters, and I like TL more (which is not to say that he's better for everyone.).
