marth has improved?

he has improved right? and for his grabbing range? what happen to it? i heard his side B doesnt help to recover anymore:(

He's faster, but he lost his grab range, lost the side-b recover (his neutral B seems to work for that though?), and lost some of his range, and the tip bonus is (supposedly?) more pronounced now.

Aww, no more dancing recoveries? His neutral B seems like it would be too slow to help... Lunaretic covered his most prominent buffs. I'm sure there's more that haven't been noticed/discovered yet.

The biggest difference with marth though seems to be how fast he falls. Instead of falling like a feather flouting down to earth he actually looks like he falls at a normal rate. Which ...also hurts his recovery.

From what I've seen Marth is going to be like the new Falco for Brawl. Great attack, not so great recovery.

B> Combo is easier to do, Running speed is a little nerferd (only to make sonic seem faster. >.<) Attack speed is the same as in melee, he's really fast, his Dtilt has IASA Frames, as soon as he pulls his arm back, another move his possible, his Neutral B dosent edgeguard nearly as well, but has alot more range. his counter is shorter, but stronger. his grab range is nerfed, and his tip might be a little worse.

Marth's grab range was broken in Melee. And he was generally a little overpowered in that game as well (we're talking before exploits here - like Fox/Falco's initial power being inflated due to the shine being used unconventionally to create combos).

Marth in general is a character who is going to end up being very good or very bad simply based on his gimmick (the tip doing more damage). He's a speedy character who is supposed to be played at range and he's rewarded for it. Either he's going to end up high on the tier list due to his required playstyle or he's going to be underpowered and feel useless unless you get a tipper. Thankfully he still plays well in Brawl, but just a tiny bit nerfed.


All of the top and high tier characters got nerfed. Sheik/Fox/Falcon/Samus/Falco all got nerfs with him. Some more or less drastic than others.

Marth in Brawl does not suck. He's more balanced now and he's still very much a top tier contender. It's not like the transition from 64 to Melee where Kirby suddenly went from ultra useful to terrible.

It's not so much as Marth got a tons of buffs as that the few nerfs that he got were waaaaay fewer than the nerfs everyone else got.

It is unimportant what they say I don't care who they are melee=/=Brawl.
Everyone plays Marth as if he were melee Marth and so we still have NO clue on how he should be played or how anyone else should be played.
yes he does look like a good character and most likely he will be placed high but I doubt he will be number 1.
Until roughly a year and a half has passed it would be foolish to make any specific conclusion as to his placement in the tier list.

This is especially true since characters such as Sonic can get up close very quickly and characters like Ike have super armor to counter his most powerful moves.

Blargh.
Marth needed to get nerfed more than he should have been. *sigh*

Because Marth is top tier material.

And saying no one ahs any clue how to play Marth in Brawl...LOL!! Look I don't know who you talk to, but I walk to some of the best players in NJ and Cali on Aim and the hub. We all share ideas and tlak. Hell I have given some of them good ideas to test out and try.

After watching vids I could pretty easily see how Brawl's Metagame would play out and when I talked to people who had the game they agreed with the things that I thought about the game.

If a person understands fighting games and has an eye for seeing strats and useful moves and techniques, it can pretty easy tomake accurate predictions about a games future metagame.

Especially if the game is shallow in it's technical aspects.

And brawl is very shallow.

WTF, Marth is clearly better than anyone else in brawl.

It's like a super model sitting on a bus with a bunch of fat ugly people, its not hard to pick out the super model and say "This one is greater than the rest on this blasted bus."

to put it simple:

Marths buffs:
Moves are faster
Side B is faster

Marths nerfs:
Really bad recovery (side b only helps once in air)
Grabs nerfed
Sword is shorter/range nerfed
Run Speed nerfed
Can't do insane comboes any more due to the new game engine

Basically hes definately more nerfed than buffed, but hes not even close to as nerfed as the other melee high tiers. He needed to be nerfed a lot more since hes still a much better than avg. fighter but hes not broken any more as his most serious nerf was that the game engine doesn't allow his crazy comboes to work any more.

Summary: great main, one of the best, can't exactly say hes the best char, not exactly overpowering.

But anyways, Marth is improved in comparison to the rest of the cast. His sword still outranges most of the characters in the game. The tip is more powerful. In fact, just about all of his moves do more damage in comparison to Melee.

Marth's air speed is good, and fair works wonders. Marth's ground game received a giant boost because of the new Dancing Blade. He has almost no lag on his aerials, excluding down. And all of his moves have relatively no start-up time.

In a game where is seems like stratagem beats out technicality, Marth has all the qualities needed in such an environment.

crap. im saddened to hear that there may be run speed dents and especially his side B recovery is gone... i suppose that was slightly unfair when using it on other players... but, ill still be able to master him if hes got the same moveset. should be fine.

But still, I heard his neutral B now gives him insane horizontal recovery...

And by "run speed dents", you meant tripping, right?

No, he actually meant the fact that Marth's physical run speed was lowered. (and in this game, you can't just get around quickly by WDing, because there is none!)

Ah ok. Well, Marth isn't the only one. I guess it's because of the "slower feel" of the game in general. Falcon's speed has been lowered too... a shame really...

Erm, what is this range stuff your talking about? His range got nerfed, making the tipper hard to do.

His grab range isn't so great, but grabs can be useful.
