Hey guys, It's me, MMx2 with some friendlies of mine I'm asking to be critiqued. At least, that's what I originally wanted done. Looking at the Melee Falco boards, I see a few "critique my falco please!" thread. So to make my posts more useful in addition to asking for a critique on my own Falco, I open this thread for anyone who wants their Falco critiqued.

In any case, please tell me what I can improve my Falco on. (Might edit w/ more vids later)

I liked your spacing in the first two stocks or so.

you just gotta learn how to combo better/keep the pressure on

and massive luls at the fsmashes

go to tournaments

Learn to waveshine, stop dtilting that falcon at high percents so much, when he's that high you wanna do something that'll kill him, not get him far away from you yet survive easily. MOAR LAZRS. learn to ledgeguard(watch some falco matches for that)

but yeah, mostly just learn to waveshine first.

Hah, actually, I'm trying to look for local tourneys/smashfests around my area but I can't seem to find any.

Yeah, I see. There have been times I could usmashed or dsmashed looking at it now.

As for the lasers: I heard from Mogwai's Falco guide that not using lasers a lot (read: "make a conscious effort not to shoot lasers in friendlies") can help my game. But yeah, my lasering's nowhere near perfect.

Thanks for the critiques, sooner or later, there will be more vids posted so I might post here again. Oh yeah, and other people too.

Yeah, i think he just mentions that so that you can learn your falco non laser game also. just learn to do running away lasers too. theyre really efficient.

just run away from your opponent, short hop, flick the control stick the opposite direction, release, and hit B. you gotta do all that pretty fast without hitting the opposite direction and B at the same time. i would say don't stop the lasers, friendlies only get you ready for actual play anyways. not learning the habit of lasers in friendlies will keep that habit gone when you're doing competitive play no doubt.

Good luck =)

Shine / Pillar game needs to be stepped up.
Same with lasers but I'm pretty sure trahh got that down for you. Knowing how to use lasers =/= not using them in friendlies. Seriously, they REALLY help and give Falco most of his advantages and against campy characters.

Got it. Thanks for these feedbacks. I really hope to be in a tourney soon :D

you need to speed up a lot. if your opponent ever made an attempt to punish any of your attacks, you would have gotten *****. specifically dont throw so many laggy moves when they wont hit (fsmashing shield should lead to a lost stock or a lot of percent, dtilting is almost useless against cfal, etc), sh out of shines better, etc. you can't really learn how to avoid getting punished when no one is punishing you, though, so i'll add my voice to the 'attend a tourney' chorus.

Yeah, I really hope I can, tourneys are very fun.

I think what I need (based on your guys' critiques) is more matchup knowledge and more refined tech skill.

Heh, that reminds me of my first (and so far only) tourney at my school (hosted by me so no non MBR stuff :D) and I got beat by a Marth at Winner's finals especially since I underestimated edgeguarding ability and knockback (boy Marfs are scary). Then @ Loser's Finals, I barely won against a samus because I also didn't know much about good samus spam. The Grand Finals, I won because the Marth didn't know too much on falco's lasers.

I have no tournament experience besides school tournaments that I've hosted (1) or have been hosted. Poorly hosted with bad players but there are about 4 decent ones, not including myself. No real ATs besides being able to wavedash and one guy l-cancelling. He was considered the best for the last 2 years(senior now). After I beat him with his main I pretty much declared victory [:. I wish people who went to my school played more, it'd make it a lot more fun than playing Spamus and rollers :|

I think by the end of the year I'm going to setup a Melee tournament where the prize is like...30$ cash. Second place is like 10$, just so I could get some hype and every other few months I will do it again with possibly higher cash prizes. Can't charge because thats gambling to the school but the point is to get them Melee hyped.

Anyways just focus on tech skill at this point. Really, tech skill is the main thing you should focus on at the beginning of your game. (Which I'm still focusing on regardless of being able to do a bunch of shxt).

It's like the phase 1 of Falco's game.

Thanks again for the tips, I'll step it up at my next friendly meetings.

Oh and @ S l o X

Finding good players in a school is hard. It's like high school smashers were destined to be separated o.O.
That Marth in my tourney was the only other person who got WDing and some other ATs down consistently. Of course, we'd **** in doubles (Posing as a Ken/Isai team w/o the Ken friendlyfire). As for tourneys, we made it a fundraiser-type thing where the payout is 60-30-10. 10% goes to the school. Though that woulda' made things in cents (pot was $45) so unfortunately, no money went to the school and the pot became 60-40. o.O

But now I moved to San Jose. More smashers I know of for sure, but they ALL come in the Brawl variety and not favorable either:

-Pit spammer: Arrogant and plays w/ items and banned stages
-Ike user: Indifferent about stage, no on items. Bait and punish
-Toon Link user: is currently busy playing MapleStory so IDK.
-Wario user: Used to own me cause I don't play Brawl. Now barely beats me; though he's too repetitive and is pro-Final Smash. Not that knowing of competitive smash; plays like a CPU might.
-ZSS user: I'm introducing him to competitive smash. With my help, he's learning and perfers B+ over Brawl anyday :D. Though he can't do ATs much.
-Mario user: No idea of ATs, really. More casual of a smasher than the Ike user and plays FPS.
-MK user: Very little chance to play him (sometimes before vacations, my teacher brings his Wii). Though I haven't played Brawl with him w/ a GC controller. My melee game owns him. He can go under Battlefield.

Ugh. New post when I get friendlies in, oh and yeah, other Falcos post your vids here and get ite critiqued!

What he said. That's what 've been doing since I picked up Falco, which is just working on my technical ability as much as possible. But I posted on your YT Channel so nvm lol.
