Hey, can anyone give me some advice on how to abuse the AI? I'm having problems 3-star-ing some of the GPs.

I'm doing well online, often placing 1st and 2nd, but no matter how well I race the AI seems to pull some BS on me to keep me from winning right at the last second.

So yeah, any good AI exploits or GP tips?

AI has the nice ability to dodge items in general , so if you put items in narrow places or places without barriers you can make a bunch of them fall (for example the first set of item boxes on Rainbow Road , put a banana right in the middle , then watch your map for awesome lulz) and rejoice imagining they're all losing items that could potentially harm until the next item boxes

There are some guidelines to get the most stars. I don't remember them all, but here are some of them

-Stay in first place for as much of the race as possible
-Not going off-road
-Not hitting any walls
-Not hitting any hazards/monsters/fireballs etc
-Not falling off any drops (rainbow road for example)
-Placing first four times (it's possible to get 1st, 1st, 1st, 4th and get one star, but 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st gets you an A or B)

I did learn the hard way that the small characters have it rough on the 150cc GP races. Heck, getting Dry Bowser was pretty tough, but I did use a large character so that weight wouldn't be a major issue.

Basically, if you're ever gonna have a good chance of getting a gold cup on all 150cc GP races, using a large character may be your best bet.

yea tricks do effect star ranking , I kept 2-starring Shell Cup becuz of that , I didnt understand at first

At first it was thought that it's just your total time that affects the rank, but I already noticed that it's not true. I was playing for a 3 star rank on 50cc Banana Cup. At first I was using Baby Daisy + Magikruiser, and I kept improving my times but I always got just 2 stars. Then I tried once with Daisy + Nitrobike (or what's it called). I got worse times on EVERY TRACK - but got the 3 stars.

I think you just had to unlock all expert staff ghosts, not beat them. Nevertheless, if you're like me and are going to complete it 100 % in any case, it doesn't matter.

its not entirely based on time:

Mario Kart DS Formula (Revised to fit Wii standards)

Your GP rank is decided by 2 scores, your Championship Point (CP) and your Hidden Point (HP).

Everybody should be familiar with CP. It's the point given to you based on where you placed in each race:

1st: 15
2nd: 12
3rd: 10
4th: 8
5th: 7
6th: 6
7th: 5
8th: 4
9th: 3
10th: 2
11th: 1
12th: 0

HP is a score that is hidden from the player, and it's given base on how "well" you performed in the race. You start with 0 HP, and according to what you did, points are added or deducted from your HP.


ACTIONS THAT ADD HP:

-- Total Time for Each Race --
Each circuit has a preset time. You will be awarded HP depending on how much faster your time is from the preset time.

-- Lead Time --
HP is given for been in 1st place. The longer you are in 1st, the more HP you receive.

-- Rocket Boost/Start --
+25 HP for each successful Rocket Boost.

-- Mini-Turbo --
+2 HP for each successful mini-turbo.

-- Item Attack --
+5 HP for each successful attack using item.

--Tricks--
+? HP for each successful trick.

--Wheelies--
+? HP for each succesful wheelie.

ACTIONS THAT DEDUCT HP:

-- Off-Track Time --
HP is deducted for the amount of time you spend off the track. The longer you are off-track, the more HP you loss. Exceptions are when you are under the effect of star, mushroom, bullet pill, or ghost(Boo).

-- Hit a Wall --
-20 HP everytime you hit a wall.

-- Hit a Course Obstacle --
-30 HP everytime you hit a course obstacle (car, fireball, etc.).

-- Fall Off Track/ Pick Up by Lakitu--
-70 HP everytime you fall off track and get picked up by Lakitu.

Oh yeah, reached 8000 (took a while, but that's because I don't play too much anymore) and I've unlocked every character. Don't know why people are having a hard time with the expert ghost stuff. Most of the time it took me one try. You just gotta find the right route, and you'll get it.
