When did I ever mention it takes no skill to win MK? But items have always mattered more then skill in the end.

I can understand criticising a game you like, but when your idea of fixing it is gutting the most important part of the game, it's ridiculous.

Let me explain. Now, you're saying first shouldn't be punished at all for being first. So that means either A: letting first get gold shrooms and destroy all skill or B: removing the luck factor entirely. Why is B a problem? For one, it's going against the Konno's idea that anybody can win MK. But it also destroys the metagame taking different routes each lap because of the random items and basically forces everybody to take the exact same path to win. So no, MK doesn't work without random items that punish first.

You can even gain VR from it with the custom rules option. Shoulda remembered sooner.

...
Uh, when did you last play MKW?
Lemme say something regardless.

Thanks to MK8's new way of determining what item you get, it actually smooths out several major sticking points. First, the first item boxes won't have gold shrooms or bullets, otherwise giving those who are barely behind a major advantage. Second, two people close in distance will, more then likely, get similar items. No more sandbaging! You may be thinking sandbaging is a minor issue, but competitive MKW players actually had to make rules against it because of how powerful it was. And third, players generally get items based on skill. Good players get bad items and bad players get good items, doing precisely what items were ment to do in the beginning. What's more, if there's no players far ahead in a room, items will be weaker to bring out the smaller skill differences. The only downsides to the system are that a comparably pro player can't speed ahead, but knowing you will get blued after getting so far ahead is better then randomly getting blued after getting ten feet in front of the pack.
You called it a "luck-based" game, when it's not (well it is right now, but the series is not supposed to be, luck and skill should both be a part of it in moderation).

And no I am not gutting a crucial part of the game. And for the 100th time, I will re-iterate what you seem to be filtering out - I only want these changes for the Global/Regional Race, and the single player. Because getting screwed over by a random online, who I can't interact with, is no more enjoyable than getting screwed over in single-player when I want to unlock stuff.

In any game with an online mode where you play against randoms, you should allow at least one version of it to encourage skillful play, because getting screwed over by other players becomes a frustration rather than a fun thing, because when I'm with friends, being screwed over is fun because we are playing in a fun atmosphere, we can laugh, we can trash talk, etc. Against randoms or CPUs, however, that fun atmosphere is non-existant, because you cannot interact with these people. Nobody is enjoying the botched item system, everyone is frustrated. This isn't me complaining about not being able to win because I have won the vast majority of races I have taken part in, but not only is GETTING screwed over frustrating, but I hate feeling like the game gives me a win when I didn't deserve it. I have at times won races where I didn't drive very well due to carelessness, because the game gave me overpowered items, even when I'm not that far behind. Which makes me feel bad for the other players who did better.

I don't want them to remove the items, I just want them to rethink the standard balance to encourage skillful and strategic use of items, especially since Frantic Mode, which is SUPPOSED to be the unbalanced setting, doesn't feel any different to me, and I have a full race replay on YouTube that proves that. It goes to show that the regular item balance is extremely flawed, since Frantic Mode hardly feels any different. The item system is just really schizophrenic, sometimes everyone is getting coins and Mushrooms, then other times, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are getting Crazy 8, Stars, and Bullet Bills on NORMAL MODE, while the 1st place player is pretty close to them. I have got Crazy 8 in 2nd on many occasions, and I once got a Bullet Bill in 3rd on the last lap, while being just behind the other two players. And that's just obnoxiously unbalanced. Like I said, these items existing is not the problem, they just aren't balanced right now.

You want the main gimmick in MK (ask any kid on Miiverse what MK is about, first thing they'll mention is items) to be gutted from the main modes. Still not happening. And pick an acceleration based setup for GPs for Pete's sake! I beat 50 and 100cc with three stars in one try, and two tries for 150 and mirror. It's too easy now IMO.

Custom matches. They're still ranked by VR. Go pick some rules you think are better, but remember you're not playing Mario Kart anymore.

They just did that with the new item system. First can't keep dropping items in hopes for a red without significant risk, and now that everybody gets junkpeople actually save items now.

Do you want any MK's item system on the online modes?

Your are so simple minded and terrible for filtering out parts of posts, it's not even funny.

And I beat all GPs up to 150cc with three stars on my first try, as well as three of the Mirror ones. Don't talk to me like I'm playing the game wrong.

If it was so easy, then why are you complaining about items? And if there's something you want me to answer that badly, point it out.

It's not that I want you to answer anything, you just keep entirely missing my point, and think I want to play with items off. I don't. Yes, I can customise the item settings, but only roughly, and none of these options fix the problems with the item balance that I, and many others, have.

And those last 5 cups were frustrating as hell because I kept getting screwed over by all manner of stuff. And it didn't matter what kart/character combo I used. In fact, I did best with speed-based combos in the end, merely because I was lucky those runs and the game didn't give the CPU all manner of stuff.

I've already explained how if there's going to be items, they WILL punish first. You can't have items and have a completely skill-based game at the same time.

I never asked for a "completely" skill based game. Just have skill be a factor to a more adequate degree.

The car actually looks kind of cool. But it would look cooler with Diddy Kong driving it.

I hope that if Mario Kart 8 has more DLC, I'd like to see some courses and characters. Like a bunch of other people have said, a more proper battle mode would be cool. But I don't know if they'll do that.

Yay for DLC! Looks like Nintendo is finally joining the DLC bandwagon. I really hope they have it for the next Smash Bros. game.

Fair enough. I'm a surprised a local manufacturer hasn't given it a go. I want a GT-R Premium now.

Does anyone remember the two cars that were built for the release of MKW? The standard karts with Mario and Luigi liverly? I can't find them.
