Mario is actually a lesbian taking male growth hormones, trying to save her significant other, Peach. But in a strange, sick love triangle, Peach and Mario both have a strange attraction for Bowser, who is obviously compensating for his tiny manhood by having giant castles and spikey objects.

...but... maybe i'm reading too much into this.

These theories really only hold up with the older games, where there is barely any exposition at all. In SM64 it's very clear Peach isn't being held willingly by Bowser as she leaves notes and hints for Mario around the castle.

I'd say the same about SMBIII ;P

I like the lesbian mario theory above. If 'she' wanted Bowser she'd simply stop taking those pills. Unless those are just to save her sis, in spite of how much she values Bowser and his... spiky shell.

I like the lesbian theory, but here's a weird one:

Mario is gay. Why? He always hangs with his brother, he swings Bowser by the tail, and to top it off, he plays every sport known to man in ghetto overalls. In fact, you'd think being the "boss" he is, he wouldv'e gotten action from Peach by now. Seriously, name ONE moment when they kiss.
