The other day I was on smogon, and I saw that they were thinking about testing or were in the process of testing (if I read correctly) manaphy to put it in OU instead of Uber.

So what do you guys think of this, Tail Glow and hydration is a big advantage that would change allot and it would make allot of us have to rebuild teams... so what are your thoughts?

Discus:)

I think it will make OU.

Should be an interesting addition at least.

Always wanted to get myself a manaphy to train. I have one (met some kid at a casino and traded there) but the one he gave me isn't really good.

I have the strongest urge to name it 'Monsoon', for some odd reason.

it has amazing power.... if the weather is rainy.

If it drops to OU (probable), im expecting to see more rain teams. Hydration + Rest + Tail Glow = your face.

Outside of rain, he isnt nearly as powerful- as hydration is worthless, and without Baton Pass he doesnt threaten nearly as much.

if it drops, i dont think i will be adding it to my team, but i know ill want to determine which poke will be my counter for it.

I agree with that. Although...if Manaphy does seem to be making a hell of a storm(lolpun) in OU, then I can see some possible tier shifts as well as rain will become a much more threatening move. Gorebyss could become a more consistently seen sweeper (although its speed is still sort of bad...so maybe not), and Kabutops as well. Same with Dewgong, although this wouldn't happen either unless someone thought "Hey...let's have two hydration abusers on our team!" and actually figured out how to make Dewgong useful. Kingdra, Swampert, and Suicune will probably also be more consistent contenders, thanks to boosted STAB (and swift swim for Kingdra)...which sort of makes me groan...

But chances are, it won't make THAT big of a difference, so I see little reason not to add Manaphy.

Lol, Manaphy won't be doing so great in OU. Sandstorm is omnipresent, so if you predict a Rest, just switch in a ttar, and ****ing own it lol.

How will ttar own manaphy? I don't think ttar has many moves that could damage manaphy...

the only reason manaphy could be considered uber imo, is rain rest. So if you predict that the manaphy is gonna rest, just switch in ttar, cancel out the rain, and lol it the sleeping manaphy.

QFT. So basically, TTar would just come in, be like "yo *****, Imma wreck you", and then Manaphy would kick his *** back to funkytown. Plus, if someone uses Manaphy enough, I can almost guarantee they can predict such a thing and may use rain dance again on the predicted switch-in, just for the sake of caution.

Honestly, the only weather-type Pokemon that can counter it in any form is the amazazing Obamasnow, who gets wrecked by enough other things that using him isn't usually a good idea on a competitive team in the first place.

EDIT: @Nirro: Then they'd probably switch to something a little more threatening to you, or something along those lines. After that, they would then just wait until you throw out something safe and throw back in Manaphy so it can go through its little sleep spell. Not too hard, really...

Manaphy was "tested" and put in uber. But now that the meta's evolved it'll be interesting to see its placement.

Tail Glow Manaphy was pretty beast, fyi. Only thing that could reliably absorb hits was max/max blissey iirc.

It will make OU. I think everyone got a little worked up over Tailglow, but now that they realize it isn't gamebreaking, it'll work it's way down.

*agrees with Articanus*

Manaphy doesn't like getting it's Rest screwed up. Ttar should be able to take out a large chunk of HP with Focus Punch, Stone Edge, or Payback. The sandstorm should give Ttar enough resilience to Manaphy's Surf. In a rain team, I do see Manaphy being overpowering (since I've never defeated a rain team, ever). I do like the fact that Abomasnow gets a neat role in beating Manaphy, or at least slowing it down 1 turn by forcing it to set-up rain again.

Manaphy will be interesting to see in OU, though I can just tell that it'll just mean a lot more rain teams instead of just splashing Manaphy over their bulky water or something.

I've never tried a rain team, hmmmm that would be nice:)
If you want to counter ttar, just give manaphy grass knot:)

Neither have I, but I was considering it after this discussion started. Even without Manaphy, it might be pretty fun to use.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure 0rly is putting it in the circumstance of messing up hydration effects by disrupting the rain dance with switching in TTar. It's all fine and dandy if that's what you plan on doing, but I'm betting that people are going to come up with counters for such a thing; and I don't think finding one would be too hard considering the fact they'll be running a team that's main benefactors are water and electric types. Where one water type fails, another can easily come in and pick up the slack against TTar. I'm guessing Suicune fills that spot nicely?
