If i wanted to watch meatheads on steroids i would watch worlds strongest man competition.
Ok. Just because McGwire, Sosa, Manny, and Barry Bonds are complete idiots doesn't take away from the guys like Jeter, Konerko, D-Lee, and all those guys that go out there and play for the game and not the money. and Hello. Football? I know at least 5 football players in my tiny school on roids so i can't even imagine all of the Pros.

haha. well, The Pirates had pleny of talent, they just traded all of them away. But the LaRoaches are pretty good. so McCutchen. The Yankees had a great season last year and are definately spending their money's worth. Sam. Keep dreaming. 100+. Holliday was a great pickup by the Cards. I'm definately impressed with Kenny Williams. He's made some iffy moves in the past but these last few moves have been great. All we need is for Ozzy to wisen up and put Alexei back at 2nd and let Beckham play shortstop like he has all his life. Plus we got Omar Vizquel to give him some tips.

The Tigers are going to suck. I can't believe they got rid of Granderson. Do they honestly think they are going to make the playoffs? They've got good pitching but that alone won't do much in the regular season. Playoffs yes. It's hard to believe that the 2006 squad is no longer in tact for the most part. Should have kept them instead of trading them away when Detroit had losing periods.

Oh well, at least the Tigers are no longer the laughing stalk of MLB. The 1990's and 2003 were horrible years.

Yeah. I was shocked to see the Tigers get rid of him. I would've loved him patrolling center for the White Sox. But they won't trade in the division. I think 2000 something can't remember quite what it was might have been '07 they were stacked and were supposed to be a shoe in for the World Series and sucked it up and only won like 60 some games.

Let's not turn this into a football vs. baseball debate.

So what do you guys think about McGwire's admission a couple days ago?

Supposedly, a science teacher in my school was once in the MLB and was present at the World Series when the 1989 San Fransisco earthquake occurred. His name is Jeffrey Dinner. I tried searching for him, but nothing came up!

haha wow. that would be impressive if it's true Kirby, I think it's about time that McGwire did it. It's guys like him that are ruining the sport(and A-rod cuz all he cares about is his money). Now hopefully, McGwire doesn't get into the Hall of Fame. He even denied it in court. "You all need to remember that I'm innocent until proven guilty" McGwires exact words. Well it's safe to say that he's guilty.

Yeah, there has been no MLB player ever named "Dinner", according to baseball-reference. I skimmed the rosters of the '89 A's and '89 Giants, but couldn't find anyone with a name similar to Jeffrey Dinner. Has he ever changed his name?

With the exception of the part about McGwire being guilty, I pretty much disagree with everything there.

On "ruining baseball":

MLB set an attendance record in 2007, with 2008 in second place, and 2009 in fifth place. There's also this graph, which also shows that baseball is far from ruin.

On "all he cares about is the money":

First, how do you know that a player cares only about money? Because a team offers the player hundreds of millions of dollars? Using your A-rod example, he seemed extremely happy to me when the Yankees won the WS. Does he care about money? Of course. Everyone does. Does he also care about winning? I would say so.

Second, even if a player really does only care about the money, why does that matter? He earned his free agency by playing for six seasons under team control, the first three years of which he played for whatever the team that he played for wanted to pay him, so long as it's at least the minimum. If a perennial last-place team wants to pay him a hundred million dollars more than the next highest bidder, the player has the right to accept the offer. When a player hits free agency and receives multiple contract offers, he has to consider and weigh certain factors, such as money/contract length, quality of the team, location, etc. If he gives 100% of his weight to money/contract length and signs with the highest bidder, that's his choice, and I fail to see how that's a problem.

On steroids/HOF:

I don't really understand the steroid outrage. Lots of people took steroids. Why direct so much anger towards the few people that have been outed/admitted to it, when there are countless others that took steroids and have not been, or never will be, caught? Sure, McGwire's numbers were inflated by steroids, but by how much? We don't really know how much steroids boost performance, and you also have to consider that a lot of his opponents were also juicing. I would have no hesitation in voting for McGwire, or Bonds, or Clemens, etc. for the HOF since their on-field performance justifies the votes.

Can someone explain to me who's brilliant idea it was to make homefield in the World Series dependent on the outcome of the All-Star game?

I don't know about the whole all-star game but i do love it. I think if it wasn't that way it would end up like the NFL Pro bowl. none of the players would wanna play in it. It just kind of adds excitement to a long season. and I just feel that steroids are terrible. In todays issue of teh Pantagraph (Chicago Newspaper) there was a frontpage story where they did an interview with legendary catcher Carlton Fisk. He just went off about McGwire. And he's got a lot of good points, if you ever get a chance to see it on the pantagraph.com Silent, you should really check it out. He yells about how unfair it is and how he never once took steroids and he was a catcher which is harder than playing first base so there was really no point for McGwire to use them. and A-rod could have been happy because of the bonus he was getting for winning. I really love Jeter, He has a salary taht gives him enough and that man would sell his soul to play baseball. You have to admit that A-rod's salary is completely ridiculous and there is no reason anyone should get paid that much.

My only concern with that is that this whole freakin' era of baseball is tainted like that. I still don't think we fully understand how many people took steroids like it was nothing. That said, I have no real way that I can think of to start the healing process for the league. It's insane. As for McGwire, that's a really ugly situation. While I thought he was lying from the beginning, I honestly found myself believing his apology to an extent. At least, the part about him not believing they helped him. That said though, it's still completely ignorant of him. How can you take PED's and not expect them to enhance you? It's beyond me.

It's just an ugly situation.

Other than it being done as an incentive to make people care more about the All-Star game, I think the decision was one made by the league and the player's union. I'm not too sure though.

To me it's not too bad of an idea though. Much more interesting than the Pro-Bowl in football. The only rule that leaves me not caring too much about baseball is the lack of a salary cap. Teams throwing money at players cuts down on my fun, personally.

Really? I don't know if that's right...

Especially since NASCAR is changing some rules around this year to increase the competition's intensity since their TV ratings have been slipping.

I'm pretty sure the NFL still leads in popularity, or maybe even baseball. I love basketball the most, but I know that's behind MLB and NFL. It might even be bigger than NASCAR.

Do you have the link to the study or anything? O_o
