So I have had this idea for quite some time...So here I go.
I have a contract with a company known as machinima.com , some of you may have heard of them, for those of you who havent heres a brief rundown.
Machinima is making a show out of a video game (I.E. Red vs blue), they have a few different youtube channels, all of them with a **** ton of subcribers. Anyone who has a contract with them can give them videos to upload to their channel. Pretty much ANY kind of videos, in the last year they have created a gameplay channel called machinima respawn where directors can also upload their gameplay clips. Oh, did I mention we directors get paid per view? And these videos get a lot of views.
And thats what it is and we get paid for uploading this videos. In light of the recent events of pound V I was thinking, hey...what if there was another way to make money from tournaments other than the prize money? And in some cases help pay for the venue.
Im sure you guessed it by now, here's how it would generally work.
Tournament happens
Someone records big matches and commentary (Commentary is really a must)
They get the video to me somehow (Im thinking mediafire or dropbox)
I send the video's in to machinima respawn
A few days later they start going up on the channel with subcribers
End of the month Machinima repsawn pays me
I funnel payments to players/tournament host's (probably the players)
A few purposes this could serve....
Pay for venue
Pay players in case a pound V happen
Some things to keep in mind....
I would only want to post matches of high level players playing high level matches, we cant have a single boring video uploaded, otherwise they all get judged based off of that.
And we cant post a "ton" of these videos, I know a lot of videos come from tournaments but only the hyped of the hyped would come up here. The last thing we need is to clutter the channel with 50 videos viewers decide they don't want to sort through.
Speaking of clutter...this channel has 983,883 subscribers.....983,883 SUBSCRIBERS...Thats a lot of subscribers for a LOT of directors that upload to this channel. This channel has everything from black ops to tetris uploaded on it and there is a LOT of clutter on here. I already have a few ways around this.
We are a very strong community (Melee AND Brawl) and we love this game enough that we make super hype trailers and have multiple channel with over 1,000 subscribers that are there JUST for the awesome melee videos (And some of them for brawl) With your help we can filter all of the viewers to the smash videos on machinima respawn
I also want to stress that I am not doing this for the money, I just want to get more support for the players.
I would love to hear responses from everyone but i'm primarily interested in getting thoughts from the top players, the guys who would most likely have their videos on that channel.
tl:dr - I upload videos to machinima respawn, players get paid
