PLAY SMART

*I decided to put together somethings new Lucas players should do, mostly because people have made ******** threads asking how to play him.

***Basics I always do****

~Nair - is Lucas best friend, no matter what people say. Its intimidating and its his best way to rack up damage (my opinion). I never do a regular SH, i always SH Nair. It usually keeps opponents away (non-projectile opponents) and makes great spacing. The follow-ups with Nair is great, with Jab and all tilts and of course forward smash.

*Side Note - I usually do the jab combo after because of its quickness and it leading to combos. No matter what you do though, switch up your follow-ups so you wont become predicable.

~Dair - personally i believe its easier to spike with this, if your good at keeping your opponent under you for all the hits. I don't use Bair for spiking because its to predictable and if i miss ill get more punished than Dair. Also......please don't SH this move, your only cheating your self seriously. SH Dair for Lucas is waistful and you will get rocked if some one catches it.

*Side Note - JAB LOCK IF YOU GET ALL THE HITS....for real. If they wanna give you there stock then take that **** lol.

I'll update with more like PKT to retreat and **** like that...stop making threads asking how to play Lucas. Thank you =]

Flame if you want =]

The nair... I need to use it more. I sorta been neglecting it lately.

A-so, what is jab lock?

Ah, I see. That is useful. I'll start trying to do that. I haven't been winning as much in 1 vs. 1 matches lately.

I need to start doing more nairs and less usmashes.
No, my son. You must never give up on the up smash...

It will be your best friend when fighting aerial characters... or something.

jab lock only works with lucas's dtilt.

And it is exactly as slow as I said it was on the frame data. Use Dsmash more than usmash.

u smash = ultimate lag
d smash = huge duration for punishment

lucas' jab combo has godly speed and priority
it's his best move IMO
use it outta shield, outta nair, anything
but throw in f tilt for spacing

also, at low %, u tilt also comes out pretty fast and you can get in 1 or 2, maybe if ur opponent doesn't DI well 3 or 4 before they attack, and if they do that jus shieldgrab.

jab lock can be a lot of difficult, and lots of times if you hit with all hits of the dair, it's generally not necessary to do it very long before you can just bat for a kill. don't use it more than you think you have to to leave less room for error

that is all :)

im sorry but disagree with you on that note....Up smash has a ginormous amount of lag both before and after the hit...and if you use it more than you use side smash you my friend will start to get predictable and get easily punished whn you try and do an up smash....any smart player can see lucas' up smash coming from a mile away...the only way to land it is to use it SPARINGLY as a means of suprise, and not just spamming it because it is one of the most powerful smash's in the game

You forgot to add this: If you recover but are hit off the stage before you touch the ground, you will NOT get your second jump back. I lost a match like that once.

If you can predict a sidestep, use the up smash. They will sidestep the startup lag if you time it well.

Works wonders against this very defensive player I know.

ALWAYS punish missed attacks if possible. If you can't get there in time with a grab or fsmash, use pk fire immediately. Don't react for punishment, you see the startup of the attack, you saw it miss, by then you should know whether you're gonna go for a ftilt, fsmash, wavebounced psi magnet, or pk fire. Those are usually your best options, and they're in order of speed and range.

Laggy attacks that don't have any range get the dsmash.

******** ideas and prior knowledge non-sweetspotted recoveries get the usmash. Almost all recoveries are sweetspotted in this game, so if you're using the usmash, make sure it's the right situation.

Lucas has a quick attack speed. Amplify this advantage by not approaching. an opponent that is approaching has fewer options than an opponent that is defending. Usually they can SH aerial, dash attack, dash grab, or dash usmash. Have a response prepared for any of those possibilities.

Don't get tricked. Just because someone's dashing at you doesn't mean they'll attack. As such, when you're fighting, use moves that have as little lag as possible whenever possible. Note that although the jab comes out on frame 2, it keeps you frozen for about as long as an ftilt. Ftilt has more priority, and comes out 1/15th of a second later. That's often a good tradeoff.
