I can't believe I'm saying it, but Link really seems susceptible almost every every Marth attach. I just recently began exploring Marth's arsenal and found that he is much more efficient in launching people than Link. Am I wrong. Please tell me link doesn't suck. (Need tips for Link)

Link sucked in SSB64 and was only okay in Melee.

He sucks in Brawl. He's been nerfed, for whatever reason I can't comprehend.

I can't agree more.

Compared to others with the claw shot extent, others exceed his by far.
His bombs don't bounce off of each other.
I had a combo on melee where I would throw the bomb and if they bounce it with their shield I would shoot an arrow to break the bomb in front of them.
he can't really combo as far as I have tried.
The chargeable spinning attack really isn't as good as it seems. The whole point of the spinning attack is to quickly regain ground control. At least the way I see it.
For some reason, it takes me more effort to knock people off than with any other character I use. I usually get them up to about 180 before I can actually knock them off screen. (could be for other reasons, I'm aware)
Either way... he's still my favorite character and I still plan on working around these things.

Just needed to rant.

in melee he was strong yet a little slow.in brawl they tried to make him a little bit faster, instead he is in a point where he isnt fast or strong enough.he is a weak slow character so you have to play smart.

and dont say link sucks because i posted a thread asking for help with his 'sucky' recovery and some people got all pissed off for that

and about his clawshot why is it so short if in twilight princess it went all across a room?

Link still viable imo

Although Link may not be the best choice to main with (at least for me) he is still fun and viable in brawl (imo). I started playing with him recently and I found the boomerang and bomb make a fairly decent combo. I would throw my boomerang which would get side dodged, then throw my bomb, then as they get hit with my bomb, my boomerang would pull them into my smash. While of course it doesn't work all the time, it is a good combo I found to like and catches a lot of people off guard. I also like Links f air and b air. His neut...not so much. Although he's not my favorite character, he's still fun at times.

Hate to break it to you, but Link is probably going to be low to mid tier. If you really want to play Link but want a better character, just play Toon Link, he's one of the best characters in the game.

Discussing tier is pointless right now.
So people can't speculate? Awesome.

Link always had trouble. Brawl, barely any of his throws can lead to much. His tilts just don't seem as great. His Nair and Bair I see are barely being used now. Hell, even his Up+B doesn't even feel that great.

I would seriously put you all in your place for making a really bad topic, but I'm kinda sick and I do honestly like smashboards so I'm going tone down all this.

I am, however, going to ask nicely and please just stop making all these threads about how bad/good link is.

These boards have a hard time accepting that the character they love just isn't that great. Once you get past that, you can start to make lemonade out of lemons. Take Skler for example. His guide, although very helpful, has an overall very negative tone to it(which I find hilarious btw), but he sees all the bad with link and is making the best of it in the current situation.

Link is terrible, and will always be terrible, but it doesn't change the fact that posts such as the one I'm quoting are terrible as well, this is old news.

Yeah, he kinda sucks but I actully do pretty good in ths game with Link. I fight against a real good Marth, and I Take an advantage of Link's Fair and Bair moves. I don't win all the time but i win. Sure, Link is nowhere near the best character but it's possible to get better with him. I block a lot and play mindgames. I also get as much range as possible with his arrows, Boomerangs, and Bobs.

Link was better in Melee.

You can actually use Link "sometimes" in Melee....it's just that there were too many Sheik, Falco, Fox, and Marth players in tournaments...

i second that. I'm just really disappointed with how nerfed the clawshot is. Link also feels like has just more startup lag...i don't get it, but i feel it, and it's there. His regular attacks, however, are far better, imo, with improved range and knockback. It's just a completely different mindset, and I think most semi-pro link players from Melee are just having a hard time getting used to it (me included).

so what if link is low tier, this adds fun to beating top tier people who think all low tier guys stink. Also, stop thinking link is a Ike powerhouse, link controls the battle field with projectiles. But also I do see how link is hard to use and also weak, but if you hate him that much dont play him.

Tch. Stop crying. If Link "sucks" as you say, so be it. I'm still a main, and will always be. And I will never play that stupid clone of his.

One thing's fur sure, his projectiles are ALOT better, but they toned down the clawshot a little over the line.

@ all Brawl Link haters.

All people that say Link sucks are afraid of maining his awesomeness. Face it, if Link really does belong in bottom-tier you must suck at brawl if any Link beats you. And really, who gives a crap about a tier list anyways? Link doesn't suck, it's the people who use Link and call him crappy while using him that suck.

Competitive play. You are trying to relate fact vs. situational plays. "Anyone can be good at *insert character here* if they know how to play them." as opposed to "*insert character here* has lots of *advantages/disadvantages* compared to *insert another character here*."

troll powers...rising...becoming...aurashade....

seriously kid stfu, your logic is so bad that you need to delete your account right now.i will now destroy your whole post sentence by sentence

Everyone that is active on this board will main link if he's bottom tier or not so nobody is "afraid of maining his awesomeness." So you're saying if you get beaten by a bottom tier character you are officially bad? I want you to fight Taj, T!mmy, T0mmy, Gimpyfish, or any other bottom tier main then rethink about that statement.

and to now destroy your final sentence.

I want you to post a video of you playing link and I want to see that you are one of the non-crappy people that use link. I dont want some crappy online match against some scrub that doesnt even know what rar stands for or that just spams Ike's FS. I want a match against somebody in your town that played melee, learned all the AT's, and now plays brawl in the same fassion. Once you can do that and prove me wrong, dont log back in again because you sir are no "link specialist." If you can't prove me wrong then you are an idiot that is blinded by your love of a character that is not even close to as good as you think he is.

You people and you're seriousness. OK! I get it. You people do know that what I posted earlier was a light joke, right? (I guess maybe not, if you're all angry at the moment.) Nobody can be actually that stupid enough to post something like that and be serious. If I did offense some people though, my apologizes.

EDIT :About that video, plz tell me how on earth to do it. I don't even have equipment to do that (except all I have at the moment is my computer). I'd be glad to show you what I'm capable of, but I have no way to prove now don't I? This blows. It's not expensive is it? I don't have much money to spare at the moment. *Sigh*

Looking back at my post NOW, ya I'm a total j@%#@$$. My bad. Btw, ArkiveZero, I admire you're loyalty to Smash. Keep it up.:)

To be fair, he did alright against Marth. Sheik, Falco, & Fox were a bit unfair for that matchup though.

sad thing is they seemed to make solid snake more powerful than link in brawl or is snake suppose to be stronger because hes a hidden character? Or is snake stronger because Sakurai is close friends with metal gear creator Hideo Kojima and did'nt want his friends character sucking? lol

Truly I don't think Link sucks at all. It's just that many of us still haven't grown a custom to the way he is suppose to be played yet. Brawl Link relies on more defense than ever before, something a few overlook. Airdodging is vital to Link's survival once mastered, mostly when short-hopping. You can't really be KOed if you're never hit, right? Link's recovery isn't to shabby ether if you think about it. I mean, how often do you really die falling to your doom rather then being KOed at the sides of the stage or even in the sky. All you really have to do is find the right timing to use his second jump (even though it's short as hell) and you're set for the most part. Link may have his flaws, but he's still a force to be known. In the end, he has one of the longest learning curves in the entire game, veteran or not. Besides, there's still so much to dig up about Link that I'm sure we'll all figure out at some point.
