Here are the two tracklists we have:

osby osby 's tracklist
tonygameman tonygameman 's tracklist

Here's the poll:

In the meantime:

Job #167: Submit one more NPC role to assign a character to

That's right!!!! One more NPC job!!!!! The last one (not counting the future Burning Rangers minigame civillian job)!!!!! And just like last time, YOU get to decide which kind of NPC we are doing!!!! So submit an NPC role and then we'll vote on it and then we'll do a job for characters to fill that role and it will be Epic

Job 167: Hidden Conversation character

So this is shamelessly stolen from the Smash games (Palutena Conversations, Codec Calls, etc.), but the basic idea is that one of the existing roster members has some way to trigger a conversation with an NPC they're familiar with on the battlefield (like say, a taunt). It serves to help flesh out the personality of the character who gets said trigger, as well as talk a little bit about one of the other characters on the battlefield.

For a couple of examples of characters who would make sense for this: Ichiban Kasuga, Joker, Vyse,

Alright so uhhhhhh tonygameman's tracklist for Oboro Dojo wins!!!!!!! In other news uhhhhhhhh

We have not gotten that many submissions.

I think they're all good ideas.

I was already planning on doing a Codec equivalent job.

Eh **** it we might as well do all of them

Job #168: Submit a SEGA character to fill the role of training dummy and a SEGA character to host the Sound Test

Yeah!!!!!!!!!! As I mentioned, we were gonna do a Codec job regardless and that will happen in due time, but until then, we will be taking care of these two. So submit a SEGA character to be a training dummy, and submit a SEGA character to run the sound test!!!!!! ok now bye

Worth noting that the criteria is a bit more loose with the training dummy, it doesn't have to be a character per se - you can even just make something up as long as it's bssed on a SEGA thing

Sound Test Host: DJ Professor K (Jet Set Radio)

I know very little about Jet Set Radio, but I figure that he's a DJ, so it makes sense to have him host the sound test, and Jet Set Radio (as the name would indicate) seems to be heavily based around music. Not sure what else to say; I don't think I need to write a huge justification for why a character should be a sound host test.

Training Dummy: Tails Doll (Sonic)

I was going to nominate Omochao, but he's likely too small to work effectively as a training dummy, even if everyone who's played 3D Sonic games would probably like to use him as one.

One of the early internet creepypasta characters, the Tails Doll was a playable character in Sonic R, where something about its unsettling movements made it into a bit of a meme. The model is unchanged from Sonic R to keep that janky early-3D goodness intact. Hit it as much as you want - it can't fight back. (or can it?) (Can You Feel The Sunshine blaring in the background is optional)

Punching Bag (SEGA)

1647370029063.png

(Sorry for huge image)
Punching Bag is an amusement game manufactured by Sega starting in 1960. It is one of the earliest known surviving Sega amusement devices, the object of the game is to hit the punching bag as hard as possible; with a pressure gauge scoring the player. The exact same device was manufactured by other companies in the past.

In the game, this device acts like a Sandbag in Smash. However, since it's based on real amusement game, you punch the Machine or Bag to measure how strong your attack was when you hit it. It does knockback, especially the bag, but the knockback is shorter due to being a machine.

LOPIT

LOPIT
(short for Live-show Operator Prototype by Interaction Technology) is a virtual entertainer found at Sega's indoor amusement park, Joypolis. She has a bubbly personality, but is sometimes prone to glitches that cause her to cause trouble. She is a musical musical preformer, making her a good fit for this role.

Sound test: Team Chaotix

Team-Chaotix.png

Vector has taken this role before, but the trio will be chilling on the sound test channel with Vector listening to some tracks on his own, Espio standing against a wall and Charmy whizzing about like the hyperactive six year old he is. Then a song is selected in and the trio will start playing their various instruments. Usually they sound awful, but I guess they've been working on their skills.

Job #168: Sound Test: Outrun Hand (Outrun)
Outrun Driver.jpg

You may ask "Is this a character? It's sort of just a hand..."

Well, this hand is what starts out every single game of Outrun in the arcades, and so it's one of the most memorable hands and radios in gaming. Before you start driving in Outrun, you pick whatever music you want. In Sega Battle of Ages, we would see this scene recreated as your actions in the menu get reflected in whatever the hand does to the radio. All the while, you would hear the cool breeze move the palm tree in the background, and various Outrun songs can be heard off in the distance.

Job #168:

Sound Test
- Mr. Bones

1647434046658.png

A 1996 game that mixes platforming and rythm together with other genres thrown in for different levels. While it's met with varying levels of critical acclaim, most people would agree that Mr. Bones is a pretty unique game and so is its titular protagonist. I can't say I know much about this title but a musical skeleton would fit the role we're looking for pretty well.

Training Dummy: Emerl

Emerl.png

Please excuse all the Sonic character submissions lately, but I cannot think of a more appropriate training dummy than Emerl who spends the entirety of Sonic Battle getting the absolute crap kicked out of it by the protagonists to help 'train' the poor Gizoid.

Emerl is capable of using the special powers of others making it an ideal training partner to practice against. Whilst Emerl is absolutely never going to make the roster for Battle of Ages even if we had 20 Sonic character slots, this role seems tailor made for such a character.

Sega Consoles
A pretty simple one. Fighter sized versions of Sega's own hardware. You can set which one you want or have it be set so that it's random each time. Despite the image I think it would stick to the mainline consoles, genesis, saturn, dreamcast, but we could throw in a couple hand heads. It would make real sounds from those console's sound fonts when hit.

I was also thinking sometimes a cartridge will pop up or the disk trey will open, and the game inside could be tied to the Fighter in play. So Sonic 1 on genesis and adventure on dreamcast for sonic. For characters this doesn't apply to, since they didn't appear on those consoles, a random game will appear. This would be purely cosmetic.

Job #168 - Training Dummy: Scooter from Alien Storm
20220317_182620.jpg

So like, when we first discussed potential training dummies in the Discord, someone brought this dude up and I kinda loved the idea. I want to make sure he's at least on the table.

So! Scooter is one of the three playable characters in Alien Storm, a 1990 arcade beat-em-up by SEGA. Scooter is part of the Alien Busters, a trio of people who have taken it upon themselves to save the world from an alien invasion. Scooter is also like the coolest of the three, I like him a lot :)

Anyway! Scooter will now be functioning as the training dummy for the Battle of AGES cast. His main quirk is that you hit him hard enough or enough times, he'll ****ing explode. And only his head will be left. However, Scooter will quickly be put back together in a new replacement body. This is based off of his special attack in the game. He would be cool :)

In honor of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax being rereleased today, I wanna submit some capsule toys for some of the P3 gang who are playable in that game.

Mitsuru Kirijo
  • Series: Persona
  • First Appearance: Persona 3 (2006)
  • System Debut: PlayStation 2
Student council president of Gekkoukan High, member of the fencing team, and heir to the Kirijo Group, Mitsuru is the highly studious brains of SEES. As the original leader of the group, she takes her responsibilities very seriously and approaches every situation with a no-nonsense attitude. When the hero first joins, Mitsuru takes a step back from combat and acts as the team's navigator through Tartarus. She starts fighting alongside the rest of SEES again when Fuuka Yamagishi steps in as the group's navigator. She initially wielded the Persona Penthesilea of the Empress Arcana, which evolved into Artemisia once she overcame her emotional hardships.

Akihiko Sanada
  • Series: Persona
  • First Appearance: Persona 3 (2006)
  • System Debut: PlayStation 2
Third year Akihiko Sanada is the protein-loving muscle-head of SEES and one of the three original members. As the captain of Gekkoukan High’s boxing team, he has an intense passion for fistfighting and will jump at any opportunity to show off his strength. Although Akihiko is shown to be reckless in his pursuit of strength, he’s ultimately trying to protect the ones he loves and prevent himself from ever feeling helpless again. He originally wielded the Persona Polydeuces, which evolved into Caesar once he overcame his emotional hardships.

Elizabeth
  • Series: Persona
  • First Appearance: Persona 3 (2006)
  • System Debut: PlayStation 2
As one of Igor’s many assistants, Elizabeth is tasked with assisting her visitor on their journey. She’s responsible for keeping track of the Persona Compendium and fusing new Personas for the hero. Curious about the human world, Elizabeth begins asking her client to show her what lies outside the Velvet Room. Though she lacks an understanding of many human customs, she quickly becomes enamored with their lifestyle and yearns for a purpose outside of the Velvet Room. Once the protagonist's journey ends, Elizabeth sets off on her own journey of self-discovery and forges her own path in life. Don't let her carefree and curious personality fool you! As a Velvet Room attendant, she carries immense power, including access to every single Persona through the Compendium.

Resubmitting Princess Kurumi for tonygameman tonygameman !

Re-submitting time again (mostly same as the last time when I submitted her, but with extra stuff brought up by other users).

Job #106: New Arcade Character - Princess Kurumi (Ninja Princess - 1985)

Princess Kurumi is the protagonist of SEGA's Ninja Princess, also known as "SEGA Ninja" or simply "The Ninja" (on SEGA Master System), which focuses on her escaping from a traitorous retainer, Zaemon Gyokuro, after he took over her castle and ordered his men to carry away after being kidnapped, transforming herself into a kunoichi and sets about saving her home and putting a stop to Gyokuro's takeover. While obscure and not well-known currently, Kurumi is acknowledged as one of the first female video game protagonists who was made before Samus Aran herself (alongside other examples such as Ms. Pac-Man, Papri from Girl's Garden by SEGA, Baraduke's Tobi "Kissy" Masuyo and Time Gal's Reika Kirishima), even also predating Joe Musashi as SEGA's first ninja hero by two years (who debuted in 1987), despite not being the part of SEGA Gals figure line-up.

According to a fellow friend and mentor in this website, YoshiandToad YoshiandToad , Ninja Princess is among one of the best games in SEGA's earliest console, the SG-1000, which was made before the Master System console itself. In fact, Kurumi would also represent that console as well, as I don't think there's other noticeable games besides it and Girl's Garden (because it was Yuji Naka's first work in SEGA).

For some facts/info, consider watching a playthrough of the original arcade game and this video (people may have known this from Ready Player Two the last year as it's plot point and some spirit also lives on Pocky & Rocky such as run-and-gun shooter gameplay and a cute Japanese culture-based setting).

As a titular ninja/kunoichi princess, Kurumi can be seen as a counterpart to Zelda/Sheik (minus transforming) and maybe even The Mysterious Murasame Castle's Takamaru. For her playstyle/moveset possibilities, she is able to use acrobatics such as back-flip kicks, stealth techniques and her knives to attack opponents by slashing for melee combat or throwing them in eight directions around her towards opponents, like in the original arcade game. She also has throwing stars/shurikens as additional projectiles and can turn herself invisible for a short period of time, able to bypass physical attacks and projectiles as well, which can be used for a teleporting recovery when aimed with a control stick.

Considering that one of her game's titles/names is the "SEGA Ninja", Kurumi may borrow some moves from other ninja characters created by the big blue company themselves, such as Espio the Chameleon, Kage-Maru and those from Shinobi, specifically Hibana. This would also apply for her alternate palettes.

Resubmitting Dreamcast

Job 120

Dreamcast (Sega Hard Girls)

SEGA Hard Girls or SeHa Girls is a franchise developed by SEGA to be used for merchandising and advertising. Dreamcast is a personified Dreamcast,

The SeHa Girls main piece of media was "Hi-sCoool! SeHa Girls" an Anime where all of the Sega Girls attend a high school where they travel through different SEGA worlds.

The SeHa Girls were japanese exclusive until 2016 when Idea Factory and SEGA collaborated and released Superdimension Neptune VS Sega Hard Girls, Which was a crossover game between Neptunia and Sega Hard Girls. This was the franchises introduction in the west and added a lot of moveset potential to characters like Dreamcast.

Between Neptunia and Hi-sCoool! the moveset of Dreamcast could be wild with references to many SEGA games and moves she used in Neptunia as well as just general sword attacks.

This is a neat and somewhat obscure piece of SEGA marketing that would be fun to reference in a Fighting Game

I'm going to resubmit Jack Cayman from MadWorld/Anarchy Reigns. It's a tough call between resubmitting several characters that I'd already submitted (Hornet from Daytona USA, Gunstar Red/Blue from Gunstar Heroes) or a lesser-known Sega character like Ristar, but I want to see MadWorld make it into this game in some form.

Jack Cayman (MadWorld/Anarchy Reigns)

The reigning champion of the Death Watch tournament, Jack is as violent as you would expect a man with a chainsaw stuck to his arm to be. MadWorld is about killing your opponents in as many creative ways as possible, and while the violence would undoubtedly be toned down here, it seems like it's cartoonish enough if you take out the blood. (you can play darts by smacking people into a dartboard with a baseball bat, or stuff them into fireworks launchers to launch them into the air)

There's more to Platinum Games than just Bayonetta (though the Bayonetta games are great and I'd highly recommend them), and Jack comes from a similar time where Platinum partnered with Sega, resulting in Sega owning the character. As a character from an action-heavy game, there's tons to work with as far as a moveset goes, and the black, white, and red Sin City-style aesthetic would help Jack and his stage stand out.
His normal-coloured version from Anarchy Reigns could be an alternate costume, but I feel like the MadWorld version should be the default.
