Hi guys!
Yes this is a long post. I cannot believe I used to cry trying to type a 1000 words for assignments in High School. Either way tl;dr bring up issues, things you want changed, suggestions, etc
*high pitch screeching-esque voice*
As your newleader (inb4 Galvatron) moderator, hopefully I will be able to steer us back in the right direction of depleting Earth of all its energon.
Oldschool Transformers references aside, I think it would be a good start to get as much feedback as possible, and to update/restructure the boards.
1. My stance on things
This is not my first time being a moderator. But honestly, it has been a while. SWF has global rules and the ones that apply the most around here are spam, inappropriate content (swearing, drugs, sex, w/e) and trolling. For the most part if these things are constrained to the General Discussion thread I will be reasonably lenient; I wouldn’t push your luck though - especially on inappropriate content.
Trolling that relates to someone’s personal life (e.g. UR FAT, UGLY, *and something about your mother*) would most likely come under abuse, and that is a whole different kettle of fish in terms of rule breaking. I do not think there has been many instances of this on the Marth boards though.
For a while Steel was very stern on topic creation, and it had both positive and negative impacts. On one side, there is barely anything stupid being posted on a regular basis; on the other is most of anything being primarily in the General Thread, even topics that could deserve their own threads or get drowned out by other things too quickly to get attention. I do not mind new topics being created if the question is expected to have long/multiple answers. Things like discoveries should at least be brought up somewhere (Q&A thread or GenDiscussion) before making a new topic.
2. Changes?
We have a Q&A thread which is pretty uber when the expected responses are short, but some often have fleshed out answers (and often discussions, which are pretty much the direct opposite of what the purpose of the thread is) that could/should be somewhere more easily accessible. Marth boards really need new guides written up. Another goal is to have scribes and/or scouts looking for good posts (and paraphrasing/editing them) so important and good information is readily available. Things like special usages for X move or interesting info about Y match up/stage/etc could at least have a link to the post categorised somewhere to archive it.
This type of thing requires a lot of work; honestly I am not sure if there is much will for this to occur in the Marth boards at the moment. But at least, for the archive idea, that should be possible.
A merger of the currently dead Marth Guides Collection and the Q&A topic is possible. Said scribe(s) would hopefully categorise what we currently have and keep tabs of what information is still reasonably current/valid.
The Marth video thread is also dead. So I will probably unsticky it if no one wants to take over in a constructive manner. Other boards video threads are generally X Character v Y character (e.g. Sonic v Meta Knight: LIST), and I would say these are better off in a proactively updated match up thread/guide. What we have currently with Marth Mains is a lot of OLD videos.
I think I am fine with new topics being created for videos if the player is successful in tournament. IF this is to be a common occurrence I would think they should have their own topic. Perhaps I should create (any suggestions?) guidelines for this. Specific high interest sets from large tournaments that occur from time to time should be fine to have their own topics (if they do not turn into America v Europe).
The Brawl Marth Finder thread is good and is continually updated by MysticKenji, but there are some problems. One being that it contains a lot of names of people who may not even be active anymore, and another is that most wifi activities stem from the general discussion. Perhaps there should be specifically a Wifi and Marth Finder thread. I think Junk has something similar in mind a while ago.
This is most of what I could think of for the moment in terms of changes of our current stickies... I suppose. The Frame data thread probably does not need to remain stickied at this point.
3. Issues
WHOS THE BEST?
The answer to this is simple, it is I. And if you disagree I will destroy you.
I will be reasonably blunt here, the trolling that occurs from this crap is... crap. And I will not be lenient if you want to try it.
If you think you are smart by comparing two players that not only HAVE NOT PLAYED EACH OTHER but they haven't even PLAYED SOMEONE THE OTHER HAS PLAYED, then you are bad and you should feel bad. This is pretty simple to understand, even the famous Inui Logic is better than this (i.e. I played and beat X that beat Y hence I am better than X & Y). In other words, there are absolutely no LOGICAL connections between Europe and America to be able to compare players in the way you guys are/were doing.
I am fine with people backing others skills, but if you are doing it to troll or without any real basis (that I can see), I will end it swiftly.
If you have any other issues or suggestions, please bring them up either here or privately. I am available on AIM often (even if I have skewed Australian time zones in the way) on HiyaShaya, so if you wish to discuss something just introduce yourself and talk away.
Rukkiko is a discussion leader for these boards and I am sure he will be happy to help you out as well.
I am generally pretty happy with the Marth board’s behaviour. So let us all live happily ever after, mkay?
