Mmk. So basically, the title. I'd really like to get more into that though.

Some of you guys might know about, or have used, the IRC chat located in the Connect part of these boards. Well, occasionally I go there (every few months? I dunno) and just check the place out. Every single time I go there, there is absolutely no one expressing communication as I know it to exist on the internet.

Today was different though, I jumped on there and saw two guys talking, one helping the other get a set of codes to work on GeckoOS. We got talking for a while, and one guy there started telling me how the place was actually busy at one time. Then a new member got on, and the guy I was talking to had a few matches with him, as that's what he was looking for.

tl;dr - So, how come no one uses this (anymore)? IMO we should use it more.

on topic: I may use it if I knew others were using it too, cause sometimes I don't feel like communicating through posts, chat has definite advantages sometimes.

I believe the best place for an IRC would be for Online Brawl Matches.

Places it would fit:
-Meet and Greet (New New Fight Arena Thread)
-Brawl Online Discussion
-(perhaps the light house)

Just my thoughts.

PS:
We do have a Chat room, under the Connect tab.
But I went there and no one is usually on it. >_>

Nobody uses it because it feels like that nobody knows it even exists.
I've been around the IRC Chat for this site for like, forever and a half. The place has HUGE potential to have a place all us Smashfans can just go on and on about everything, discussion with pros, or helping noobs, everything!

It would really nice to see many familiar faces in one place :3

The problem with one single chat room for a large forum like this is you're going to get conflicts. Lots of them. Someone comes in and asks beginner questions and gets flamed. Someone comes in and asks for wifi games and people tell him to go away. Crap like that. Oh, and lets not forget melee vs brawl flamefests.

People on this forum do use chat rooms, just not the SWF IRC chat room.

Well, to be fair, tl;dr has evolved to have the double meaning of either "Your post is way too long", or "To sum up what I've said". And it's pretty much used anytime you feel like you can sum up your thoughts in a sentence.

Thing is, all updates I believe have to be made by MLG...which as you may know...don't get stuff done really fast.

Well, i think one good thing, it'd be nice to have an announcement or something that advertises the IRC chat, and shows it exists, seeng as 99% of Smashboards doesn't evn know there is one.

Whos with me on this?

I'd be for it, but that would attract all the new guys more so then they are currently attracted. Might just be me, but the chat is more suited for general chat, and not a match making place. The Members Fight Arena is used for that, and hopefully someday () the Friend Finder.

A Social Group would be cool though. :D
