Most years we get a Nintendo Direct in September. The only years since 2012 was the 2015 period which was obvious due to Iwata's passing where there we no Directs for 4 months as a result

It'll definitely be a General Direct in September. But I fully expect a November Smash Direct with the last blowout of information.
If September (general Direct) and November (final hype bomb) get one, the only real chance for October would be a simple Robin/Lucina trailer upload.

From those numbers, we could get a Direct in October... maybe. The odds are slightly better than even.

I'd say swap September and October around and it's more plausible.
There's probably not much to say there, except hope for DLC. While here, we have quite a bit going for us right now. Especially the tweet from Sakurai. I honestly wouldn't be mad if that tweet turned out to be a coincidence because it revitalized fan's hope for Isaac and Golden Sun. It's gotten people to talk about it again after all these years. So, thank you, Sakurai. And I'll be thanking him more when Isaac is revealed as a new fighter!

Last I read he was tweeting more positively regarding Isaac, after his initial pessimistic tweet. Meh, not sure if he's even someone we should be paying attention to anymore.

Also, it's crazy how we're close to surpassing the Ashley thread and become the more popular Newcomer Speculation thread, disconfirmed or not. That tweet really did wonders.
The Japanese poll is after cleaning out the confirmed or deconfirmed characters. Isaac was actually about 18 originally, right between Cloud and Bayonetta.I know a few pages ago in this thread were discussing the exit character polling for Isaac in Japan being at #9 worrying them. I looked at the spreadsheets myself and it really doesn't look like any representative sample for Japanese votes. For US/EU you have tens of thousands whereas the Japanese ones only look to be in the hundreds. That's not to say that he couldn't very well be at #9, but it is questionable how high or low all of those characters actually are.
I also am looking at a lot of these videos and a lot bring up the supposed 'trilogy' of brawl speculation with Geno being in with Ridley and K. Rool. I'm not really sure why people don't remember that Isaac was certainly in there too. Maybe some selective memory or just plain bad memory. Like another poster pointed out earlier, if the idea is to have new Smash IPs introduced as fighters, we only have one this time. The leading thing that Isaac has going for him other than being the best choice ever
The only way Sakurai is lying is if we have less than 50. Just because 50+ implies less than 60 doesn't mean there CAN'T be more than 60. 60+ is also 50+, after all.

Even when he said we shouldn't expect too many new fighters he threw 3 unique (ridley included) and 3 echo fighters at us.

The general trend in Smash is increasing the number of newcomers in each game. Since the focus in Ultimate was on veterans, I think he firstly means not to expect as many newcomers as the trend would imply.
