I'm curious. With all the people attending Smash's tourney in Evo, where would you guys rate winning this tournament in the history of Smash accomplishments. For that matter, where would you rate the accomplishments of everyone else in top 8, 16, etc.

With the current top 5 being very close in skill and ken, the former king of smash, having won Evo in '07 before retiring on top; I'd consider them the champion of this generation, of course it'd just be a title until the next major when they're beaten by another of the top 5.

There are still plenty of good players who aren't able to go but getting top 32 or higher is a big accomplishment, especially for a double elimination, 696 man bracket. Of course it's who you beat, not where you place that matters.

With the back-n-forth nature of the top 5 or so players, I wouldn't consider the winner of this tournament the indisputable best player in Smash unless it ends up being a blow out OR if the winner turns out to be Armada, who already has shown solid consistency.

the dog,the dog he's at it again!
I want Armada to win because if any of the other top 5 take it they will probably just lose at the next national. If he wins he'll reach a legendary status that the other players probably won't be able to live up to. He deserves to be up there in the history books beside Ken in terms of legacy.

If Mango wins after winning Zenith then it could be a statement. If Hbox, PP, or M2K wins it's just one of the top ones winning. If Armada wins he will retire once and for all unquestionably the best melee player of all time.

Right now Armada's the undisputed champ (well, he's not because he's retired, but w/e we'll count him as not retired). If he wins he gets to retire as the undisputed champ once again, but this time with a string of X super important victories instead of X-1 (honestly I forget how many it's been a lot).

If mango wins him vs armada is up in the air again (not that armada wasn't the best for a period--just that mango caught up to him) but not decided. If AR retires then he does not retire as the champ, undisputed or otherwise. Mango is then the best active player in the world, having won two consecutive tourneys featuring all 3 of his active rivals.

If anyone else wins then they're in the running for world champ, but they need another major-tourney victory to seal the deal.

So basically boils down to this one of these people were to win
AR: Cements himself in near equal position with Ken on the SSBM Pantheon and retires indisputably on top
Mango: Replaces Armada's seat on the throne and puts himself firmly into position as best active player
PP/M2K/HBOX: Keeps themselves in the conversation with Mango as best active player, while forcing the two of these who did not win out of that conversation for what I assume a fairly brief period of time. This would also taint Armada's legacy somewhat.
Other: Extreme hype, and I personally think that this person would earn a deserved spot amongst the elite 4, especially if they top 6 the following national.

AR wins: Places himself in the history books as one of the best ever in the game, and has a period of dominance to got with it. Similar to SC:BW he put any doubts of whether he's a Smash Bonjwa out of doubt. Currently accept bonjwas are Ken, M2K, and Mango eras, with AR would undoubtedly be in there (if not already) if he wins.
Mango: Another accomplishment to his list, and "best player right now" title back. Maybe he'll have a second period of dominance.
Other elite players: Adds to their resume and case for best player.
Someone else?: A breakout victory or a fluke.

You don't fluke your way through 10+ sets against the world's finest.

This is so exciting.

I think for now, the legacies are cemented.

Ken, Mango, Armada as the three best Melee players of all time.

PP, Hbox, M2k, Hall of Famers (if we ever actually start one)

I don't think any of that will change with a 1st place here at EVO. But, if PP, Hbox, or M2k take this, they'd probably just need to win the subsequent national for everyone to start championing this player as the best in the world.

Winning a major tournament like this proves you're currently the best.

Winning MULTIPLE major tournaments proves you're the best of this generation.

Big difference in terms of legacy. #GoArmada

Wobbles ruined mango going through a gauntlet of the top 4. Instead he had to fight wobbles who ended up being the surprise boss at the end of a game. Good job wobbles, enjoy the money lol

Mango #1. Had PP won though I think he would at least have a semi-legitmate claim to best in the world. Depending on how mango/armada did they would most likely at least be on the same level.
