So I've read Mogwai's thread and stuff where he says put away your gun for friendlies. I've done that a few times at smashfests but I've never really followed up on it.

So after reading an old post of Mogwai's where he said going a month without lazers is the best thing he has ever done, I decided to go one month without lazers as well.

I started a week ago and plan on doing this until Pat's House. My friend who also mains Falco decided to follow suit after I told him about this so here are some lazer-less Falco dittos (and some matches vs Fox too)

Thanks in advance <3

Vs Falco 1
Vs Falco 2
Vs Falco 3
Vs Falco 4
Vs Falco 5

Vs Fox 1
Vs Fox 2
Vs Fox 3
Vs Fox 4

I dont know how you can force yourself not to laser.
When I was watching in my mind I would always be like OK shl now.

Oh and about the vids the first one was funny. it seemed like the green falco just wanted to throw uber amounts of waveshines even when the blue falco wasn't even close at all

good stuff though.

I want to expect better of you, but I know not to
Not bad, the dittos look a little weird with both of you guys doing this exercise. I think you'd learn more from only one player not shooting rather than both in dittos as it teaches the shooter how to leverage laser advantages and the non-shooter how to punish unwise lasers. I also found doing this particularly useful vs. Marth, Falcon and Sheik, so if you could post some videos of those, that might help me critique a little better. I dunno really though, cause it's mostly a personally learning experience as you pay attention to the points in the match when you miss lasers and when you feel better off without the itchy trigger finger. But in the meantime, general advice:

To both of you:
shield more
learn to shine out of shield
edgeguard better (bair to cover multiple options rather than guessing on single options with flashy techniques)
work on DIing all the time. your DI isn't terrible for West Coast (lol), but it could still use work, especially on Falco shines.

To Deadshot:
No one cares about how cool you look when you kill yourself that much and lose every match. Chill out and focus on not jumping into ftilt traps off of fthrow at 0 and similar elementary mistakes.

Besides, if you focus on nothing but flashy tech, you could always have a bad day or **** up your controller and have something like this happen:

I still don't think i agree with the laserless drill.

I understand what the point of it is but i'm not sure how useful it ends up being. I feel like learning to space lasers correctly is more productive.

*shrugs* different people find different things useful. I went through a period when lasers were a crutch that hindered the growth of the rest of my game, not shooting them opened my eyes to when there were better options than lasers.

Most new falco players will rely alot on lazers, but playing vs skilled opponents will force you to mix up your game because they will easily adapt to your overused strategy

i used to do this
but then lambchops showed me that i was just using my laser incorrectly to begin with.
lasers are a crucial part of falco's game and not using them actually hinders you.
certainly not using lasers enhances your close combat skills, but if you're getting punished for lasers enough you should gradually realize that you're lasering in the wrong situations/the wrong ways.

I have to agree with Mogwai here. When you occasionally let your lasers rest you get a better feel of when to laser. A lot of Falco players (including me) make it a habit to laser at certain points, which makes your approach/defense game a whole lot more predictable. And dodging/PS/shielding the lasers might reduce your opponents spacing some more, but as long as you do not create an opening or an Achilles' heel for your opponent they are frankly useless.

It's also a good way to learn to deal with extreme pressure. Playing opponents who pressure the hell out of you can really destroy your lasergame, which for an average player means you're gonna be playing a fleeing Falco.

Again, it's a matter of personal taste or metagame believes if you do not want to try this. It may even be of sheer vanity for no one likes to lose. And it is true that Falco's metagame heavily depends on the red line of frustration, but that doesn't mean it's a waist of time to try this?

For all I know, the people who have played laserless Falco all responded positive. Because the moment you grab the gun again, the first match with lasers again, is such a relieve. You get all this "HEY" and "BAM" moments shooting through your head, and you'll notice that the lasers you shoot now actually have more impact on your opponents game. It's like rewiring your reflexes to attain a higher level of laser-accuracy.

"DEN YA GO PEWPEW!", to freely quote Mogwai.
