i use z to l cancel w/ samus

i use to use L but i switched how i hold/use the controller and while i used to be able to shield presssure w/ spacies very consistently, the z button does feel akward to consistently shffl nairs or shffl nair/dair shine

Wow Jigglypuff players the same. I always used Z too. Still do...not 100% sure it's the best, but at this point there's no hope for changin'.

I never found anyone else who did this back in the day.

Someone brought it up in another topic once, but Z does have its advantages. Since it isn't used to tech as well, trying to L-Cancel and getting hit will still allow you to tech right after, unlike using L.

I use z 100% the time. I heard the common button for cancelling was L, but it felt weird to me so I adapted to using the z button.

I actually like that pressing L techs because you can get a lot of accidental techs when you are trying to attack. Like if you try to shffl a nair and the opponent up-bs OOS, you will often tech the up-b immediately. Even if you did not think that was a benefit, you can press L/R in only slightly to avoid unwanted tech attempts.

Just don't l cancel. It takes way more time to learn and that payoff isn't that great, just play smarter not mindlessly fast and technical.

I switched to using Z after using R for 5 years. I still use R for regular paced shffls, but for weird timings, I use Z. It's a lot easier imo.

I use Z to l-cancel as well. But, I play an odd claw style so my finger is always on Z. It's more natural. I don't miss techs because of it. I do finesse my controller a bit, but once in a while you pass the threshold on the L-cancel. I'd rather be safe. Plus, I can smash the hell out of Z if I wanted to, and I'd still L-cancel. Can't say the same for L trigger.

yea basically
i flick away from the ledge, then mash toward the stage & b & jump all basically at the same time
but i guess i'm jumping 1 frame before i'm inputting toward & b

i press both B & Y with my thumb at the same time

my thumb is positioned like this (lol this looks so stupid):
