Please let me know if any of the character placements are incorrect, or you know the character an opponent with a missing character played with. KSL will only be doing weeklies for the rest of the year. Stay tuned for KSL Annual Championships which should happen sometime around February 2016 and will feature a big pot bonus. Great event, thanks for coming out guys!

I actually went Sonic>Doc>Megaman=Toon Link in singles.

Doubles was...Megaman, Doc, Pacman, Villager, Ganondorf.

Why was pools determined by anything other than sets first?

Kudos to Weegee, Jumbo and Dskro pulling those upsets on pools.

Shoutouts to BC for plowing through 8 sets in doubles. 2x more than almost every team. We played more games and thats all that matters!

I just think from now on if we run pools we determine the rules for who gets out and based on what situation before hand and make it well known to the people who will be the "obvious" pool leaders. Kind of saves a headache later and we don't have to go bugging T.O.'s.

There was no result that would have changed if sets were counted as opposed to games. Though agreed, sets can be used over total games won.

There was writing on the mirror explaining that each individual game counted, but you're right, could've elaborated more in person.

Yea, I didn't read the rules. Never have I ever seen a tournament do games>pools. If I go 2-1 with my entire pool and win all the sets. I am top seed. I'm not below the guy who went 1-2 with me and 2-0 vs everyone else.

It didn't quite matter today, but there were 2 or 3 pools where it almost mattered.

Let's assume its a pool of 6. If you go 2-1 with your entire pool vs the guy who went 1-2 against you and 2-0 against everyone else, the guy with 2-1 on everyone will still get the higher seed. The guy with 2-1 on everyone will have 10 points at the end while the guy with one 1-2 and the rest 2-0 will have 9 points total. To clarify, losses don't hurt your score (technically they can if you drop a game to someone with the same number of sets won, at most serving as a tiebreaker), only wins count towards your final score. If you won a set, you will always get 2 points out of it no matter what. If you won all your sets in a pool of 6, you essentially have a perfect win score of 10. The loses you incur could be used to rank your seeding among other top seeds for the final bracket however, but won't matter for the actual pool you're in.

This was the system run at SFC the Sunday before, so honestly I hadn't given it that much thought but it looks no matter how you score it (games won vs. sets won), the ranking would come out to be the same.

There are two pools (wall and gnes) where the 2nd and 3rd seeds almost tied based on "how badly they lost to seed 1".

Wall 2-1d both and Gnes 2-0d both, but I'm just pointing out that it shouldn't matter. Winning sets should be the first thing that counts, just like in bracket.

If you value games more, people will do better in pools based on being able to counterpick harder to reach game 3.

Either way **** worked out. I think the main difference maker would be in the case there was a tie that we differentiate between how the tiebreaker if any would work.

After talking to Xyro he said it would simply be that if Tesh and Wenis both had the same # of wins despite Tesh beating Wenis, they would play a tiebreaker set, best of 3 again and the winner gets out. That was on the basis that I 2-1'd both of them, Tesh won 2-1 over Wenis, but if Tesh dropped any other game and went 2-1 with someone else there might've been a tie. I think. It's all water under the bridge at this point.

I'm not worried about me, but I've seen too many tournaments over the years that weren't super solid about how the determine pool results.

I like Round Robin pools and I don't want people to have another reason to dislike them. As the new scene grows, it wont be as simple as 6 man pools with 2 getting out. You get far more complex situations when its pools of 8 or so and I just want to make sure you guys are using the most fair and logical way to create results.

Sets are most important because you should be playing the same game as you would in bracket. In bracket, losing 1-2 isn't better than 0-2. Its the SAME. Pool play shouldn't add that extra importance to counterpicking imo.

I'm glad you guys were clear about the rules before the event too btw. I didn't bother reading them, but they were on display so kudos.

I will be the first to say I don't miss Shiek but it really is strange how poorly the top characters are repped.

- First Shiek/ZSS is Dan and I at 13th
- No Rosaluma at all
- Pikachu at 19th
- Highest Sonic is a split main at 7th with Tesh
- Mario is at 9th with Weegee and is the highest "top tier" specialist placing

The only "top tier" character reps that are missing are the Boner Bros and I'm not even sure they would both make it out of those pools (Sam probably would but M might not). Trela is also missing but Ryu isn't really recognized as a "top tier" yet.

The rest are a wild assortment of top 20 characters and a couple huge outliers in Bowser and Armor Samus.

And here someone on Facebook was ******** about Texas "losing its soul", having "no character loyalty", and "flocking to high tiers". SMH

I used almost entirely Sonic actually. Only went Megaman 1 game in pools and used Doctor Mario vs BC. I went like Sonic like 16/20 games so....top tiers.

Yoshi, MK, Diddy, Fox are all top tiers too. Toon Link, Peach and Villager are obviously great too.

Of course no one is "flocking" in top 8. Its just a bunch of people using their mains (which are top tiers). For me and Pwii its our Brawl mains though.

It was incredibly hard to seed each pool, given the ratio of strong players vs. total players overall. Initially considered doing top 3 out of pools just because of this, but had to stick to top 2 because it would not make sense to do a top cut of 18 from a roster of 37 players. Anyone who didn't make it out pools shouldn't feel bad, it was just that kind of tournament.

In the future though, depending on how many people we get, we could possibly do a top 3 out of pools in the future. Since the annual championships will allow top 8 in KSL points to bypass the pools phase, pools should be a little less stacked. If we do pools again however for the annual championship, would probably like to start a bit earlier (like doubles at noon).

BTW, in case people were wondering what the top 8 in KSL points is like after KSL Fall:

1. Karna (1750)
2. DJ Fliphop (1670)
3. SU | The Wall (1400)
4. Dojo | BC (1260)
5. Gnes (1230)
6. Big Boss (870)
6. Grimturtle (870)
8. Cyanide (840)

Quick shoutouts because I forgot to mention them:

Morphiziz - Thanks for hosting and buying us all pizza. I know that stuff comes out of your pocket, so really appreciate it. Free pizza for all is always cool.

Xyro - Thanks for helping register and run the tournament early on. Cool to have you around.

Tesh - Thanks for helping seed the final bracket. I will consider what you said about sets counting vs games.

Jumbo, Dskro, Weegee - Cool upsets you guys pulled in pools. Always fun to see what goes on in pools.

Avoid - you suck, MM me

Everyone else - Thanks for coming. You made this tournament what it is.
